“FABOULAS STAY”
Reviewed 31 December 2012

Just returned from 2nd visit and no wonder people keep on returning time after time! If you are looking for a warm, friendly, welcoming hotel in a superb position with delicious food then this is for you. It is not ultra-modern in decor but that pales into insignificance. There is a heated pool, fitness gym, hairdresser and beautician on site and the dining room views are fantastic. Cannot complain about anything and looking forward to booking another break soon.

Room Tip: Ask for one overlooking the sea - 125 was perfect - just open your curtains and there it is!

Room Tip: The sea views were lovely and we didn't have any trouble with noise.

Just back from a weekend dance break at the Redcliffe Hotel and had a fabulous time. It would be difficult to find fault with anything whilst we were there.

Yes the hotel is dated but that adds to its charm and character. If you want a modern hotel that looks like a block of flats with every room identical then this is not for you.
The tasteful Christmas decorations also added to a great atmosphere. The ballroom was not overly large was also full of character and had raised seating around the sides.

The food whilst we were there was excellent and the smooth operation and service of the waiting staff was a credit to the restaurant manager. We have stayed at many hotels in the Torbay area and this was definitely the most efficiently run restaurant we have been in!

The rooms were clean and tidy and of course the hotel is also in a great location being so close to the beach. We are looking forward to returning again.

I stayed at the Redcliffe whilst down in Devon on business. I had read the reviews and surmised that it may be for an older clientele but the location on the front was enticing.

It is true that the interior decor is a little dated, and I do believe it is for the older person, or couple, but I was greatly impressed. The service was excellent, from the night-porter, through to the breakfast, and they couldn't do enough to make the stay comfortable.

The rooms have coffee making facilities and TV, although I did notice there was no soap provided in the bath/shower.

The breakfast they lay on is par excellence. There is a grand dining room, with staff assisting. You may help yourself to cereal, juices (orange, apple, tomato, grapefruit etc), figs and prunes.
Then a member of staff is along to enquire as to your preference for coffee/tea and toast. Finally the "cooked meal" and you are asked whether you would prefer a full english, smoked kippers, poached haddock, and so on and so forth, which is then cooked up and served to you. In short a proper breakfast, in these days where we are often expected to pick from a breakfast bar. The view in the breakfast room is also marvellous, taking in the local bay. I didn't eat dinner at the hotel, but suspect that it would be equally good.

There is a gym and both indoor and outdoor pools (although it was too cold to investigate the outdoor for me at this time of year). The gym room looked ok, and the pool was lovely. There was also sauna, jacuzzi, and steam room facilities of which I took advantage.

I was travelling up to Newton Abbot to work, and it should be noted that the journey from Paignton to the Devon environs can be slow in the morning due to congestion on the A380.

In short though a great hotel, excellent service, and a wonderful breakfast.

Lovely hotel, beautiful place. Out of season, in October, but a fantastic time. Food very ordinary, and not in keeping with rest of grandeur of place, but we were Room Only so didn't let that affect us.

Looking to go back same time next year, if we can get a good deal again.

Just home from a week in the Redcliffe Hotel. A hotel steeped in history and well worth a visit. It would not be for everyone at this time of year as the older clientele are catered for with visiting dance parties, with the exception of the fabulous line dance weekends. The decor is very traditional and with outstanding customer service from all members of staff. The menus are varied and extremely satisfying. You can walk off the few extra pounds by walking along the promenade which is a stone's throw away and very flat making easy walking to the town or maybe just a stroll to Paignton Pier. Highly recommended. I would say that this hotel is not suitable for children

We are grateful, as always, for the reviewer's comments but would like to reply in respect of the hotel being suitable for children. The Redcliffe has good family accommodation and more facilities for children than the average hotel, with an outdoor play area, indoor leisure complex, putting green, pool table and table tennis. We offer a childrens' menu, highchairs and booster seats in our Restaurant and a baby listening service is provided. With it's location right on the beach and the pier, cinema, crazy golf and amusements only 5 minutes walk away, the Redcliffe is actually the ideal place for family holidays.

We have just enjoyed a weekend break at the Redcliffe. It is a privately-owned hotel, a little "disney-like" on the exterior, having been built by a gentleman who had been stationed in India, but inside, the building is warm, comfortable, and nicely furnished and decorated. The staff are very helpful, and there are plenty of them on duty at anytime. The restaurant is very nice, with a great view across Torbay; food and service also good. Highly recommended.
