My wife is more into fish than me but I do like a traditional 'supper' as much as any Northern Ireland man. Hence our visit to the Ruddy Duck on a cold, windy Christmas Eve for our lunch. It was great. My fellow gourmet had a generous salmon fillet served with green beens, potatoes and chilli jam: she was delighted with it. I had - yes - the fish and chips. It was a generous portion which came with mushy peas and tartare sauce in little ramekins. The fish was fresh, cooked perfectly in a light batter that didn't overwhelm it. Not a hint of grease in sight. Chips were good but not great: I've had better but I've also had much worse. Was it more expensive than the average chippy? Yes: a little. Was it worth the bit extra? Definitely. They are good at fish here!
