Grand house in the countryside yet only 25 mins from Edinburgh city centre. Or if you just want to pop out for dinner, Haddington is 5 mins car journey or if you want the seaside, North Berwich is 20 minutes away, in other words its perfect location. We got a hire car from the airport for the ultimate convenience at low cost.
The place itself is gorgeous, this was in Feb, would be even better in the summer. But what really made it great for me was the service, truly felt welcomed by Barbara, Chris and Rosie!
We were planning our wedding so had to get out and about but always looked forward to getting back and relaxing in front of the fire, then having a superb nights sleep in one of the extremely comfortable rooms. Doesn't feel like a hotel, just feels like you are staying in someones house, thats sounds odd but felt so relaxed and at home in the place. The breakfasts are made to order with fresh eggs from the chickens. Wonderful. Went walking in the grounds to visit the horse and the donkey after Barbara lent us some wellies, we live in the city so this was lovey for us.
Was sad to leave but felt completely recharged and booked to return in August! All round a great stay and would recommend to anyone looking to get away from it all.

Room Tip: Some don't have bath tubs which didn't bother us as it had an impressive double shower inste...

We visited Edinburgh to see the rugby. We selected this hotel to be able to get back onto the A1 to get back down south easily. We arrived earlier than expected, but this was no problem. Chris and Rosie, the black lab, greeted us. Chris booked a cab for us and made us tea to enjoy whilst we waited.
On return from a long day at the rugby, the rooms were excellent. Our teenage boys were in the room next to us and we all felt very safe.
Breakfast was wonderful. Whilst we were chatting to other guests, Chris kindly sorted wellies for the boys to walk down the magnificent grounds, with Rosie, to see the pony and horse.....idyllic.
Would definitely recommend and look forward to returning.

We stayed with Chris and Barbara this weekend and absolutely loved it. I can't recommend it highly enough.
We arrived on the Thursday and Barbara rang to check we were on course to arrive ok, if we had any questions etc.
Letham House is stunning. Set in 10 acres of mixed woodland, and approached by a lovely private road, the house is imposing but approachable. The house feels like a home, with some lovely family pictures and lots of beautiful rooms. We spent some time in the downstairs nook with the fire on and Rosie the dog curled up round our toes. The drawing room is also a lovely place to relax and unwind.
Our room was great with an enormous bathroom and what I think is called a slipper bath, which was great for a long soak.
The food was beautiful, both the breakfasts, and the dinner. We had dinner on Saturday with a jockey, the owner and the trainers who were running at Musselburgh the following day. It was really nice to meet others and have a chat over dinner. Dinner was a masterpiece - tomato soup , with a little chilli kick,to start; lovely beef, roasted vegetables and potato rosti and a coconut rice pudding.
I really would recommend staying here. You can use it as a base for Edinburgh - we hired a little Fiat 500 and hopped on the train from Newcraighall park and ride for £3:80 return, avoiding the high costs (and troubles!) of parking. We also popped over to North Berwick, and also Haddington itself, both of which are lovely. Some great places to eat too, as recommended by Chris and Barbara.
Our whole stay was great and I must also thank Carolyn, who works with Chris and Barbara, who was lovely and does a fantastic porridge.
We're hoping to come back once our baby is born as they were so welcoming (they love babies and the newly done rooms to the right of the house are more than big enough to accommodate this).
Go there, relax, unwind!

Arranged a 2 night stay for small wedding party for my son combined with a drinks reception for 20 or so guests "on the day". Superb location. Beautiful bedrooms and very relaxing atmosphere. Owner Barbara and her husband went out of their way to ensure everything was perfect and provided an excellent private dinner for 8 on both nights.

Felt like home from home (I wish it was!) and would love to stay there again to be able to enjoy more, the peace and quiet the house affords.

All our guests were also impressed with both the location and the staff who were first class.

I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Letham House for a private stay or suitable function. A real "gem".

Room Tip: Not necessary, every room is superb.

We stayed in a large bedroom with large bathroom and enjoyed the most attractive decor there and in the public rooms. We ate quite splendid food for breakfast, lunch, tea and dinner. But best of all was the way in which Barbara and Chris created the impression that we were friends come to stay.

This place is recommended if you're looking to get away for a weekend. There is a gorgeous fireplace where you can read your paper privately (at least we did) and the breakfast the next day is divine. The shared table allows you to chat with other guests too in a very traditional, well-kept environment.

This beautiful guesthouse is everything I always wish for in a hotel, but never before has a place exceeded my expectations quite so much. We actually won a night's stay in Letham House as part of a visit to the Lennoxlove book festival. We had tickets to the VIP drinks reception (as part of the prize) following the Scottish Book of the year awards, but we loved Letham so much, we passed on the free Champers for a night snuggled in our luxurious room. Who knew when the opportunity to stay in such breath-taking surroundings would present itself again.

We arrived to the warmest of welcomes from Barbara, Chris and Rosie, the friendliest Black Lab ever. As mentioned by many other reviewers, Barbara gave a tour of the house on arrival, before showing us to our room, the Copper Beech room. From the website I understand this to be one of the lower priced rooms. You'd never tell!

The room itself was opulently decorated, faithful to the period house, but with all the mod cons you need. The gigantic bed was comfy and dressed with cosy and high quality linens. The bathroom was of an equally high standard, amazing shower, heated floors, heated towel rail, snuggly towels and a bathrobe and slippers.

We didn't take dinner in the guesthouse, but if, sorry when, we return I certainly will. The dinner menu is really tempting and exceptionally reasonable at £35 for 3 courses. Our room included breakfast which was delicious, generous and served with exceptional geniality by Barbara in the dining room in the morning. Guests all share the same table, but the friendly atmosphere encouraged by Barbara, meant this didn't feel uncomfortable. There's a good choice of breakfast options, and tea, coffee and toast are in seemingly never ending supply!

After breakfast we took the opportunity to explore the beautiful grounds. Again, Barbara and Chris are exceptionally generous, inviting us to meet their beautiful Halflinger Horse, and Charlie the Donkey (adorable- thinks he's a dog apparently!).

Although this was a bonus stay away, and we had no expectations at all, my husband and I were blown away by our stay here. We will definitely be back. If you're still wondering whether to stay here, just make the booking. You won't regret it!
