“Just back from another nice break at the Mac.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 August 2014

We are just back from another nice stay at the Royal Macintosh. We arrived around 1.00pm on Sunday and were given room NO.10, the room looks out the front of the hotel and must be the best room in the hotel, the room was massive with a large toilet, with a large bed new tv and plenty shampoo/shower gel and plenty tea/coffee, a big thankyou to Carol, the lady who looks after the rooms. We also had Bruce our Labrador with us and he seemed happy with his new surroundings, the hotel is very dog friendly, even a box of bonios were there for Bruce. Hannah and all of her staff are all very nice and nothing seems a problem for them. The bed was really comfortable and the breakfast were really good with plenty of choice. We have stayed 4 times now and enjoyed the hotel each time although now there is a £10 per night for the dog which adds a little on your bill, this charge is new and maybe should have been mentioned when booking.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the front of hotel have the best views, I think we had the best room in the hotel.

Before I start, the small group of ladies who appear to be "jack of all trades" worked extremely hard.

Whoever owns this hotel needs to invest some money in the place. Marston Inns are opening a 26 bed Inn near the Pine Marten in Dunbar - so I would get your act together.

Towels - snow white and sheets clean, but no cover over mattress, and pillows disgusting.

Room - terrible, especially bathroom . Sash windows - dreadful, peeling and grotty, no modesty curtains at window, so occupants in properties across the road must get an eyeful on occasions.

Lighting - for heaven sake, put a light over or near the vanity mirror. Change dressing table seat to a wipeable one, or at least hoover it - mine was covered in someone else's hair.

Food - evening meal was brilliant - I would definitely dine any time, but never ever stay here again.

Stayed one night, not sure who would review this as excellent or faultless.
Staff are overworked with loads of differing roles. The reception is a serving hatch through to the bar, receptionist serves behind bar, and waits on. Staff pleasant enough all things considered.
Nice big room, but very tatty, 90's décor/curtains tie back hanging off wall, cheap flat packed furniture, no mattress cover under bottom sheet on either beds, window in dire need of paint or replacement. Shower room sash window dropping to bits and rotten. paintwork chipped everywhere, rubbish down side of building outside and rear, in plain view. Junk room on first landing left wedged open by staff for guests to walk past.
Get rid of those doors that have been panelled over and get some period ones.
Don't serve fruit juice in big plastic jugs, the same as they serve water in a hospital.
Evening meal was very good for the price. Breakfast was greasy everything fried including mushrooms and potato cake. Could be so much better so easily
Could be beautiful.

I went to this restaurant on several occaisions and I enjoyed it very much evry time. The staff are very polite and efficient. During the week on certain nights over 60's enjoy 20% discount on food.
The food was lovely and from a small but varied menu.
So far this is the best place in Dunbar to eat and I'll certainly be back.

Stayed for one night on a recent touring trip, traditional decor, comfortable rooms, great breakfast and, if it's your tipple, there were over 50 whiskeys behind the bar to choose from. Would definitely use this hotel again.

Belated thanks for an excellent stay for just one night in June. Booked 10 mins before arrival after quick check of Tripadvisor. Wonderfully central, super handy for the rail station and train to Edinburgh. Might be the largest double room I've ever stayed in, with huge dormer window to the front. Staff were so friendly and helpful, and the man that served breakfast particularly so (can't recall his name, but he came from NI as a wee boy), with helpful suggestions of where we might stop on our way north. I left my phone adaptor in the room on departure, expected I might never see it again, but hotel posted to my home address without hesitation or any request for me to pay postage - VERY kind of them and a credit to their authentic, friendly service ethic. Only reason for not giving score of 5 is that the interiors were a bit tired - though all were clean and functioning. Would definitely stay here again, a gem.
