We came to town for the festival of traditional music, met a local who recommended this pub, walked by it a few minutes later, and made a lunch reservation. The place is comfortably weathered. We had sauteed scallops, the smoked haddock fishcake, a ploughman's lunch featuring local cheeses, and one of the most lively cask conditioned beers we've ever had. The service from a local lad was excellent and the price is reasonable.
Does it get any better than this? Yes is does.
Down in the pub a duo (guitar and violin) were playing mournful ballads, while a trio of white haired sailors who were in from a nearby island were sipping their whiskeys and beers. They reeled us in and regaled us with good natured tales and adventures that we will never forget. The Vollie is everything a good pub should be.
