“Great view from sea view room”
Reviewed 19 October 2013

Great location, everything was fantastic, our room had a sea view room which was amazing. The hotel was of an old style but had everything to excellent standard according to the place. The bathroom had a jacuzzi which made it just more amazing. The only drawback was that the WiFi connection was not good and the mobile network coverage was also poor. The management changed our room but still didn't help with the wifi or mobile network. Staff was great and helpful as well.'

Room Tip: Sea view does make the difference

Hello, we are glad you loved the sea view room, the views are truly amazing. Our apologies if the Wi-Fi was rather temperamental during your stay, we have now resolved the problem and are back to normal.

Kindest regards

My partner and I stayed on Saturday night. We had a wonderful time. The room was fabulous with gorgeous views (even though we had a few teething problems that were efficiently put right). Dinner was delicious but above ALL the staff were AMAZING!! Highly recommended. Definitely go back.

Room Tip: The sea views are amazing so try and book one with a sea view.

This hotel is not worth what it charges. It has far to go to be brought up to the higher standards one would expect for the prices. Our room was tired with threaded carpet. the staff were friendly and helpful. The noise of cars at night moving on the gravel stone driveway outside our room disturbed our sleep – a tarmac drive would have been much quieter. I think the better reviews on this site have been coloured by a sea view, which we did not have.

Many of our rooms have sea views across the firth of forth which can be booked at a slight premium, otherwise our standard rooms, which have inland views, can be booked at a lesser price between £79 & £85 in October - May 2014. Thank you for your positive comments about our staff, if you had made them aware of any problems i am certain they would of moved you to an alternative room that was to your satisfaction. I hope you will try us again in the future.

Booked a 3 night stay in the Bayswell after coming across it on the internet. We upgraded to a sea view room, well worth the extra as the view from our room was a panorama across the Firth of Forth with the Isle of May half way between the two coastlines. The elevated position of the hotel enhances the view. The hotel is located a few minutes walk from Dunbar Harbour and the town centre. The room we had was very comfortable and clean. We ate in the hotel on each night of our stay and, whilst the menu was not extensive, there was always something to our liking, it was imaginative and to a good standard. Breakfasts were adequate with all the usual fare available, one of everything on the plate in the cooked version. If you like your bacon crispy then you'll be happy. If you don't like your bacon crispy tough! Also the potato scone comes unfried, The chef must be English. The eating experience was fine so the wee bit before is kinda tongue in cheek and not to be taken too seriously. The restaurant is part conservatory with sea views and very pleasant. The staff were friendly and helpful at all times and could not be faulted. All in all our visit was an enjoyable one and should we be visiting that area again we would most likely book the Bayswell.

Room Tip: Upgrade to sea view all of which I believe are better than basic.

Thank you for a lovely review. We are delighted that you enjoyed your break with us and that your sea view room was to your satisfaction. We never get tired of the stunning views across the firth of forth and love watching the seals bobbing around in the water as well. We are currently upgrading our restaurant and dinner menu and hope you will return soon to notice all the changes.

We have just come back from 2 nights staying at the hotel and can say that both rooms we stopped in were fab - room 18 has amazing views and is comfortable and clean, room 22 is luxurious, spacious with a huge bed, gr8 flat screen and a bathroom to die for. The extra of having the hot tub overlooking the bay just finishes it off perfectly. The first night of our stay we were made to feel very welcome, Charlie was great and nothing was too much trouble, although I can say all the staff there are friendly & helpful.
The bar in the hotel was friendly with a nice atmosphere and the draft cider was a bit too nice. My other half was on the draught lager - stella 4 - which was also a great pint.
On our 2nd night we had a 3 course meal in the hotel and WOW what a meal. The food was delicious and presented as though in a 5* restaurant. The steak is a must!! Having breakfast in the conservatory over looking the bay is a great way to start the day.
We were a little apprehensive after reading the reviews on here however, please do not let them put you off. We understand from the staff that there are a few rooms still to be refurbished but if they are going to be as the rooms we stayed in then they will be fab. We will definitely be back to stay again!

stayed at the bayswell for two nights as alast minute break from bookings , com. In no way did our room resemble any placed on bookings website. Whilst clean it was dated with damp patches. a few cushions bed throw and couple pictures would have cheaply cheered it up until decoration takes place, Unfortunatly room 12 is on the flight path to the kitchen and some of the staff were loud and noisy absolutly no chance of any rest., This hotel could be a little gem but seems to lack LEADERSHIP most of the staff very young and clueless about service. When we arrived straight from a funeral we just wanted to chill out we went to the very nice bar got two gin and tonic no lime or lemon and had to listen to a bar maid regaling another bar maid about her life in general, her drinking, her trips away even what type of makeup she uses. All this accompanied by a pop video channel that seemed to be in place for the staff not relaxing at all. The bar was so small that one member of staff would have been enough. The dinning room was no better one girl in particular served breakfast on sunday using her cardigan sleeve to serve the hot plates, The night before we ate at the hotel our ears were accousted by the same member of staff asking loudly if people paying by card or cash or asking for room numbers. At one point she even pulled up a chair as she was tired. In the middle of the main course we were asked would we be wanting tea or sweet as the chef wanted to get finished we declined. The food was plentiful and tasty. The manager was helpful and a waitress in the morning was most helpful, Breakfast was strange affair the buffet table was poorly stocked customers should be served with coffee, yoghurts should be chilled, a bin should be supplied for the empty cereal packs and the 2 apples and 2 oranges that were on the table had seen better days. It would not take a lot for improvements to be made at this hotel. I felt if I had a half an hour with the staff I could have made improvements immediatly and I am not a hotelier but a seasoned traveller. To improve this hotel Staff must be trained and led and told to lower voices and not to cackle. The hotel is on a most spectacular site. I have been told it has just been taken over I do hope it improves.

We appreciate all constructive comments as this helps us improve our product and service and would like to submit the following response in what we feel is an unfair account of our Hotel.

Our new website shows many of our refurbished bedrooms including sea view and standard bedrooms. Room 12 is a standard room with a view over the firth of forth and is due to be refurbished soon. We apologies if this wasn’t up to your expectations. If you had let our reception team know of these concerns then they would have been able to solve the problem.
The week end you booked was the Annual Dunbar Music Festival and our hotel bar was extremely busy during your stay with hotel residents and local people coming to listen to live music in our bar. The reason 2 members of staff were on the bar was to cater for the large influx of people we had.
We receive constant positive reviews about our staff at the hotel. Some of our staff are young but very attentive, friendly and eager to help guests at all times. We had a local group of people in the bar that evening who wanted the music channel on sky for their benefit, not our staff , and this is not an unusual request by the public. The bar was noisy and we apologie if our guests or staff had to raise their voices more than usual. We do have a quiet sea view facing lounge on the ground floor that is ideal for relaxing if the bar is too busy for some hotel guests.
I am glad you enjoyed your evening meal in the View Restaurant, we strive to deliver excellent food, service and attention at all times. Our restaurant staff have on-going training and will bring your comments up with our restaurant supervisor.
Breakfast at the weekends can get very busy with guests coming down all at the same time; we replenish the cold buffet at all times and as quickly as possible. Our apologies if you waited a short time for this to take place.
When checking in to the hotel our reception staff always ask guests to let them know if they can help with anything and go a step further to solve any issues any guest may have. I should suggest that if you had concerns, and let our managers know, then we would have been able to resolve any issues you may have had at the time.
