Overnight stay on our way North, super room with view, welcoming staff very good breakfast. Highly recommended. Nice walks along the cliffs. Very surprised that the room had no Information pack. Dunbar is a good base for visiting Edinburgh.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a sea view ! It is spectacular.

Location is good.
Hotel is tired in need of some investment!
Room had oversized furniture. Fabulous sea view.
Comfortable bed!
Great place to introduce afternoon tea with the spectacular view of the coast.

Views out the window were spectacular, opening the window to hear the sea (wonderful!). The food was superb, everything you could ask for at breakfast and the best porridge and poached eggs ever. We had a Jacuzzi bath and loved it. The shower was powerful and hot. The staff were all very friendly. The whole establishment was clean. We wanted a relaxing weekend away to rejuvenate our batteries and that's exactly what we got... There's a beer garden outside - and we were blessed with a beautiful sunny weekend (April 2014)... There's also a path that takes you along the water edge (there's a fair few steps though)... we loved that. The small town centre had different shops, a welcome break from the run of the mill shopping centres. The small bar inside the hotel was quiet, it lacked atmosphere - but I'm sure a few punters in there, a bit of mood lighting and music and it would also be a winner... When bright, empty and quiet - it does not appeal to my taste. I like dark, busy and loud,,, but not too loud as to disturb guests (each to their own). We had an evening meal in the conservatory - haggis neeps and tatties to start, steaks (one medium rare and one well done)...all to order with wine, well prepared and presented. Would not hesitate to recommend this place... we will be going back and will recommend to friends...

Room Tip: Sea view by request I believe -

We were a bit shocked at paying top dollar for a 'suite' to find out it's only a room, a 'balcony' to find out it's a rotten patio, for 'privacy' to find people walking past our window and the hot tub visible from our 'balcony'. Apparently vegetarians were catered for, this shouldn't include just leaving the meat off of plates in the morning, it doesn't take much to grab a few veggie sausages from the shops. The breakfast staff were dismal, not allowing couple to take the sea view tables just because they were dirty, why not clean them for you customers.

The balcony come patio is just weird. A six foot fence blocks off all sunlight, and feels like you're sitting in a cage. I would get away with it completely, as is rather be sat in the sun and lose a little privacy here. Also, look at the pictures I posted, why leave all that rubbish at the side of the patio, it makes the place seem so unloved!

The room wasn't bad and ours was actually clean. Everything outside of the room just wasn't as described on the website. There appears to be no love in this place, if there was, there would be a lot more thought out into customer experience, layout and the look of the building.

I've seen management replies on here stating that they are good value for Dunbar, clearly they are missing the point of a bad review, as whether they are good value or not, the actual standard leaves a lot to be desired.

We went for dinner to the rocks across the road and this only solidified the difference in customer experience. Unfortunately won't be staying here again until it's clear things have improved.

We stayed at the Bayswell back in February but have been a bit slow in writing our review.
Our room had great views of the bay and had a table and chairs in the bay window to sit and enjoy them.
The room was clean, comfortable, simply decorated and furnished with all furniture matching and, unlike another local hotel, not made up of oddments.
The room had good double glazing and the central heating worked well, though the radiators were a little noisy at times.
Staff were friendly and attentive to our needs and the food was good, though not quite to the standard of The Rocks.
We felt that on balance the accommodation was much better though and would happily stay gain when in the area.

Room Tip: Bay view rooms are a must have.

Stayed saturday 12th April in room 12 which was huge and had the most amazing view from the very large bay window overlooking the sea.
The bathroom was also very large with walk in shower and beautiful freestanding bath.
Breafast was lovely we had the full scotish and the service was quick and friendly.
Thankyou to the friendly staff, making our stay enjoyable...we will return.
