“A great mix of old and modern. Fab location”
Reviewed 24 April 2014

Just had a 2 night stay and went with our in-laws. We all had a really good time. I love the fact that they have modernised the rooms without losing the traditional character of this fabulous hotel! Our room (no3) was outstanding, loads of space for clothes with modern furniture and sash windows you can actually open, unlike so many other hotels that seem to want to lock you in! The windows were virtually the length of the room with full on sea view Wow! Breakfast was again fabulous with help yourself toast, fruit, yogurt and cereals but the best bit is a freshly cooked breakfast not buffet style that has been sat there for ages, which is now commonplace in most hotels! Julie was like your best friend, always helpful and friendly and very knowledgeable. The only negative was the the Beef pie all four of us had on our first night, the Beef was quite tough and a little tasteless, but the starter and dessert were lovely. The main was served on a nice hot plate, again a rarity these days. We will all come back if you will have us! This hotel has fabulous facilities, fabulous rooms, great food and and an outstanding location and very reasonable prices. Who could want more?

Room Tip: Ask for room 3 at the edge of the hotel with an outstanding view. It's the room in their leaflet...

We booked the Luccombe Manor as other reviews looked good and we were able to take our boarder collie with us. Not disappointed great welcome, and very happy with our room and the facilities the bed was one of the largest and most comfortable we've sleep in . There are a few flights of stairs so maybe the more immobile would find this a challenge They were happy for us to take our dog in the public areas but of course quite rightly not the restaurant. We were on a half board basis and the food was amazing our first nights meal was lovely very upmarket in presentation and taste, had me looking forward to the breakfast big time. Again not disappointed good continental with mains of smoked haddock and poached egg to name just one. And we are talking proper poached egg!! And when they say Melba toast then it was again done correctly. The area great if you enjoy the country outlook and walks, but within 5 mins you can walk to the Shanklin village where if you want a change then great little pubs, The village inn lovely and have lunch there would recommend this place.

Room Tip: If you like out of the way and quiet then room 10 top of the hotel but it's got lots of stairs...

This hotel is set in a wonderful position, opposite Rylstone Gardens and looking out across the channel. It's an attractive Victorian building which has been expanded, so enjoying an elegant staircase, but elsewhere a labyrinth of corridors. Not that many rooms, but quite easy to take the wrong turn.

Our room was quite spacious and well appointed, but lacked that touch of class. The beds and pillows were adequate, as was the bathroom, but the furnishings looked tired. The dining area that we used looked across gardens towards the sea. Very pleasant and comfortable. Service was attentive for the most part, although one waiter was obviously a novice, but the food was rather ordinary and tended to be overcooked and dry. This was particularly true of breakfast where choice was limited and the bread in particular was poor.

The great virtue of the place is its position. A good choice for a short break, but not really any longer.

Room Tip: Try to get a room overlooking the sea in the original part of the building.

We have stayed here before and at other hotels in the chain - our party had 3 rooms with Seaview, 3,5,12 all of which were lovely and well decorated with lovely views. The hotels public areas are nicely decorated and great setting for the dining room. Unfortunately we all felt the evening meals had gone down hill since our last visit 4 month ago, there were no specials so the same menu each evening for 3 nights. The chef did pass on his apologies after our feedback - breakfast however was good each morning and the poached eggs highly recommended. Richard and Tom were great hosts and soon getting into the swing of managing a restaurant.
We will be back, but to which one of the hotels in the chain I don't know yet

Room Tip: Room 12 with Seaview has a double and two single beds Rooms 3 & 5 both large bay fronted rooms...

We had a room with a view of the sea which was great. The en-suite was spotlessly clean and in a separate area to the bedroom which we liked. The grounds were beautiful and it was just a short walk to the beach. The staff were friendly and attentive and the food on the whole was good, especially the breakfasts, of which there was an excellent selection. We would definitely pay a return visit.

My wife and I have just had a three night stay at this hotel.

The hotel itself is an attractive looking building, we had a standard room which was adequate but nothing special and left a bit to be desired in terms of cleanliness, several cobwebs were present and these don't appear overnight. The bathroom was OK but a bit tired, however there was a plentiful supply of hot water which is sometimes lacking in hotels.

There was a small opening window above the bed head, but the larger side window had been screwed shut presumably because of "elf and safety"!

The public areas were OK but again a bit tired, several light bulbs in the hall way were out during our stay, how long does it take to change a light bulb?

We had dinner one night as part of the Amazon deal we were on and it was fine, breakfasts were alright but nothing to write home about.

Staff were generally friendly although the lady on reception whilst not unfriendly didn't come across as someone particularly happy in her work, the outdoor swimming pool and grounds looked nice and well kept.

All in all a reasonable break for the price, we paid £179.00 for 3 nights including 1 dinner and 1 cream tea but to be honest we wouldn't have wanted to pay more.

Room Tip: People we spoke to said the sea view rooms were worth paying extra to upgrade.

This was a Groupon gift from our Son, Hotel very clean, staff friendly and helpful, our room was small but functional excellent en suite. Breakfast good but was disappointed with dinner, I had Caesar salad to star but it was just a bit of chicken and bacon on some leaves, the pork loin was quite good though, didn't go for the sweet. Dining area could do with a bit more atmosphere, a few candles on Tables does wonders, overall though it is fine, and I would go back.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view
