Luccombe manor

Booked this weekend special offer at luccombe and have to say a big thank you to Britt, who helped tremendously with changing ferry crossings. Check in was simple and staff friendly, the room was pleasant, and clean. Having read the previous trip advisor reviews regarding the food, I was a little apprehensive, i have to say i agree the evening meal could have been better, I'm afraid to say the cooked breakfast was very disappointing, the quantity is small, and the quality ie the sausages and hash browns is very poor. The restaurant lacked management to oversee things, ie-no bowls at breakfast, white bread running out, we were asked twice for our breakfast order on the first day, and not at all on the second day, although the restaraunt staff were very helpful when asked for things. Overall the hotel could do with a makeover, including the noisy plumbing, we enjoyed our stay, but not sure we will return.

we paid £139 each for a 2 night stay in this hotel. this included ferry and half board.
rooms were big and spacious. beds were comfy the location was brilliant with a great sea view.
the food was excellent.
the staff were excellent and answered are every call. a special thanks to richard and barry and the girl on reception who catered for our every need and gave us loads of info.
even the bar was value where as normally hotels jack up the prices.
had a great time and would def go back :-)

Fantastic location and great views. Dinner of a high quality, so so priced, breakfast not as good. There is no excuse for cheap sausages these days. Our room was OK, no more than that. Like other comments a maze of corridors and very thin walls. For me it is the little things that make the difference: alarm clock not plugged in as no free socket (buy an extension, £2 from Tesco), toiletries were cheap and harsh, 2 piece metallic toast racks that fell apart, poor quality bread. Doesn't take much to change these little pieces that would greatly enhance the overall experience. As with everything, you get what you pay for. Others on here have rated it as Excellent but sorry not for us. All staff encountered were lovely and v helpful.

Just had a 2 night stay and went with our in-laws. We all had a really good time. I love the fact that they have modernised the rooms without losing the traditional character of this fabulous hotel! Our room (no3) was outstanding, loads of space for clothes with modern furniture and sash windows you can actually open, unlike so many other hotels that seem to want to lock you in! The windows were virtually the length of the room with full on sea view Wow! Breakfast was again fabulous with help yourself toast, fruit, yogurt and cereals but the best bit is a freshly cooked breakfast not buffet style that has been sat there for ages, which is now commonplace in most hotels! Julie was like your best friend, always helpful and friendly and very knowledgeable. The only negative was the the Beef pie all four of us had on our first night, the Beef was quite tough and a little tasteless, but the starter and dessert were lovely. The main was served on a nice hot plate, again a rarity these days. We will all come back if you will have us! This hotel has fabulous facilities, fabulous rooms, great food and and an outstanding location and very reasonable prices. Who could want more?

Room Tip: Ask for room 3 at the edge of the hotel with an outstanding view. It's the room in their leaflet...

We booked the Luccombe Manor as other reviews looked good and we were able to take our boarder collie with us. Not disappointed great welcome, and very happy with our room and the facilities the bed was one of the largest and most comfortable we've sleep in . There are a few flights of stairs so maybe the more immobile would find this a challenge They were happy for us to take our dog in the public areas but of course quite rightly not the restaurant. We were on a half board basis and the food was amazing our first nights meal was lovely very upmarket in presentation and taste, had me looking forward to the breakfast big time. Again not disappointed good continental with mains of smoked haddock and poached egg to name just one. And we are talking proper poached egg!! And when they say Melba toast then it was again done correctly. The area great if you enjoy the country outlook and walks, but within 5 mins you can walk to the Shanklin village where if you want a change then great little pubs, The village inn lovely and have lunch there would recommend this place.

Room Tip: If you like out of the way and quiet then room 10 top of the hotel but it's got lots of stairs...

This hotel is set in a wonderful position, opposite Rylstone Gardens and looking out across the channel. It's an attractive Victorian building which has been expanded, so enjoying an elegant staircase, but elsewhere a labyrinth of corridors. Not that many rooms, but quite easy to take the wrong turn.

Our room was quite spacious and well appointed, but lacked that touch of class. The beds and pillows were adequate, as was the bathroom, but the furnishings looked tired. The dining area that we used looked across gardens towards the sea. Very pleasant and comfortable. Service was attentive for the most part, although one waiter was obviously a novice, but the food was rather ordinary and tended to be overcooked and dry. This was particularly true of breakfast where choice was limited and the bread in particular was poor.

The great virtue of the place is its position. A good choice for a short break, but not really any longer.

Room Tip: Try to get a room overlooking the sea in the original part of the building.

We have stayed here before and at other hotels in the chain - our party had 3 rooms with Seaview, 3,5,12 all of which were lovely and well decorated with lovely views. The hotels public areas are nicely decorated and great setting for the dining room. Unfortunately we all felt the evening meals had gone down hill since our last visit 4 month ago, there were no specials so the same menu each evening for 3 nights. The chef did pass on his apologies after our feedback - breakfast however was good each morning and the poached eggs highly recommended. Richard and Tom were great hosts and soon getting into the swing of managing a restaurant.
We will be back, but to which one of the hotels in the chain I don't know yet

Room Tip: Room 12 with Seaview has a double and two single beds Rooms 3 & 5 both large bay fronted rooms...
