“Excellent hotel with great staff and facilities”
Reviewed 23 June 2014

Just returned from a couple of nights at Luccombe Manor and the hotel, staff and facilities were excellent. We ate in the restaurant on the 1st night and the food was good wholesome traditional British cuisine. Because of the lovely weather we made use of the outdoor pool and hot tub whilst taking in the great views over the bay. All of the staff were very helpful and friendly and the hotel was very comfortable, relaxing and set in very nice grounds. In a great location only a few minutes walk from Shankin Village with several picturesque pubs and shops. We have stayed in a number of English hotels and this was far and away the best and we would definitely recommend this hotel and look forward to returning in the near future.

Great Hotel we had a sea view, there was indoor and outdoor pool sauna and jacuzzi. The gardens were beautiful you could walk through and down to the beach. Just outside is a tea room
we had a delicious cream tea.

Let me start with the good points. The cliff top location is fantastic with great views and the staff are very helpful and friendly.

I am afraid from here it goes down hill. It worries me when I am eating in a conservatory (with those great views) one corner of which is supported by 2 acrow props and a number of panes of glass are cracked. Goodness knows what has happened in the past but it made me feel edgy.

The room we had (No. 7) was very small and cramped and being over the top of the kitchen very hot & noisy. Every time somebody went in or out of the kitchen we got the 'bang' from the door closing. The room in general was clean though the vallance on the bed was filthy.

As part of our cut price deal we got our first dinner free. I would think that both our starters were bought in & tasted like it - poor. We had the chef's special for main, the beef casserole. Well my 9 year old grandson would have complained about the small portion size and while the meat was tender it all lacked flavour. It was served with mashed potato that had lumps in it the size of grapes - yuk!, with this was served a very small portion of vegatables, which may have been a blessing. If the idea was to encourage us to eat there again it failed.

On to breakfast - English breakfast, 1 egg, 1 rasher & 1 small sausage (I chose not to have the other items), but one of each is the order of the day. One morning my wife ordered the porridge. By contrast this was an enormous bowlful, enough for 2 or 3 had it been edible. It was, however, almost raw and very dry, quite disgusting.

We had on our stay 1 dinner and 3 breakfasts. On each of those at least 2 items of cutlery and/or crockery went back for being dirty. On day 2 my wife had a cup that was so badly cracked it was leaking coffee. We asked for it to be changed, which it was, but lo & behold it appeared again on day 4! It was sent back again with a strong recommendation that it be thrown away before somebody ends up with coffee all over them.

Lastly some of the waiters, whilst being very nice, invariably arrived with dirty shirts & trousers. What can I say. All things were clearly reported to the staff but seemed to make little difference.

I know we were on a cut price deal but I believe there are certain basics you should expect whatever the price

Would I return or recommended it - no way!

My husband booked this hotel via Amazon local as a birthday treat for me, a two night stay, and I'm so glad he did too!

We had a wonderful relaxing time - the hotel is a lovely old country house with loads of character, although we were allocated a room in one of the modern extensions. Would ask for a traditional one next time, but guess those not on such a good deal! The room was massive with a window both ends, a double bed and two singles. The ensuite had a shower over the bath which was powerful enough for us. Coffee and tea tray in room which was nice.

The grounds are simply lovely, right on the cliff top above shanklin bay and right on coastal path. Very peaceful with stunning views. Outdoor beautifully maintained pool area with separate hot tub. Afternoon tea served in the gardens which was complimentary, nice touch.

Well situated for shanklin old village through the golf gardens about 5 mins to some quaint beautiful thatched pubs which have great live music and great menus and a nice walk into shanklin itself about 10 mins with another access to beach front.

Whole ambience very friendly, staff can't do enough for you and quite simply a wonderful weekend with great people. We will def recommend and will be back. Thank you folks!

Thank you for leaving such a glowing report for Luccombe Manor Hotel.
I'm glad you had a special birthday treat to the Island, and what beautiful weather you had too!
It's great to hear you made the most of it and enjoyed using our outdoor pool and hot tub and had some lovely walks along the coastal path located next to the hotel.
I'm happy to hear the room you had was everything you were hoping to make your stay an occasion to remember, and the afternoon tea you had in the Grand View Tea Garden's was a nice touch.
We hope to see you again in the near future, and thank you again for leaving such a kind review on TripAdvisor.

We stayed as a couple at Luccombe Manor and used it as a base for walking trips around the Isle of Wight. It is right on the coastal path. We enjoyed our stay here; the room was good (we had a sea view) and there is a great cafe at the end of the garden. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. The hotel overall was good; my only negative was (despite the lads in the restaurant being a likeable bunch) the quality of the food served at dinner wasn't good.

When we got to this perfectly situated hotel we were put in room 11 which we didnt like for various reasons so we got moved to room 20 which was much nicer and we were very impressed by their ability to facilitate this.
Breakfast was nice, we didnt stay for dinner because we thought £40 for a couple was a bit steep especially since there are a multitude of places to eat just on the other side of Shanklin Chine.
Overall we thought the hotel was clean and welcoming and it was a lovely place to stay so long as you dont get room 11.
If we ever go back to the Isle of Wight then we'll definately stay here again.

Room Tip: If you get given room 11 then change it.
