Have stayed at this hotel (and another in the group) several times, and love it. Yes, it's struggling to maintain itself - it's a large building, and hardly new - but the staff do all they can to give a warm welcome and a positive experience. I've stayed in many a newer and frankly sterile hotel where the staff are miserable and the experience unsatisfactory - I'd choose this hotel instead every time! The room this time (No 12) had beautiful views over the bay - you can't beat this hotel and its grounds for views, trust me - and we were able to watch the Round the Island yacht race from our room. The infrastructure may be a little tired, but the food is good, the staff are friendly and attentive, and minor issues were dealt with and resolved by Reception immediately - frankly very impressive. The premises are comfortable, the rooms are clean, the grounds have tremendous views, the food is good - what's not to like? Good luck, Garden Isle Hotels - some people will moan about anything (after reading previous reviews) but I wish you well. Keep up the good work, and we'll be back!

Room Tip: No 11 is g/f, perfect if you prefer no stairs, but has no view. No 12 is up a flight of stairs, has double and two singles for families, but has brilliant view over swimming pool, gardens and bay - was hot on our stay though and difficult to draw air through, but then it was a heatwave!

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review after your recent stay at Luccombe Manor Hotel.
It was a pleasure to welcome you back for another visit, and many thanks for your kind comments, Julie and her team do hope that all their guests new and previous still enjoy a home from home experience. The hotels location has to be one of the best on the island, and your room justified this.
We do have ongoing refurbishments and try to keep the old splendour of the hotel but with a modern slant.
I am so pleased that the food was to your liking and that your beak away was all you wanted it to be. Hopefully we will be able to welcome you back at one of our hotels in the future.
Kind Regards,

Brilliant stay, lovely staff and location

I have just had 2 fantastic days at this hotel.
I don’t write on these sights but I think the previous comments are not a fair representation of the hotel.
The staff were helpful and pleasant. Nothing was too much trouble and always with a smile. They engage in conversation with you but don’t push themselves on you. Ask them anything about the island and they will do their utmost to tell you or find out for you.
As we intend to visit again I asked to see some of the other rooms and they are adequate in size and ours was immaculately clean, yes there were marks on the valance – scuff marks from shoes or cases I would imagine. But filthy NO, but then again I‘m on a holiday break and don’t intend living in the room. The sheets are white and crisp and cool, and well laundered. The room was a little hot but hey we had amazing weather. The sun shines on the building all day; the outdoor pool has the best of the sun from early morning to dusk.
Housekeeping came in every day and apart from our belongings you would of thought you were just arriving .......lovely.

Breakfast was in the conservatory, with plenty of cereals, fruits and yoghurts, jams etc for toast. You order a cooked breakfast and tea and coffee are freshly made.
As part of our deal we had a meal on the first evening, the main menu had at least 5 options on each course and they then have a special menu nightly, this has at least 2 options on each course. That is ample to please the majority of us. We didn’t have a problem with any crockery or cutlery.
The starters were well presented and we had a freshly baked bread roll too. The main course was again very nice, we both had the salmon, well cooked and on a hot plate, the desserts were just amazing, home- made cheesecake was the best. But after I was full and couldn’t of eaten anything else.
The dining area is in the conservatory and overlooks the gardens and sea. There are broken glass panes, but you can see that there are refurbishments, we were shown their new lounge which will be lovely when finished.
The staff are young , but so willing to please, don’t be put off try it for yourself, I’m sure you will be pleasantly surprised .

Booked because they took our dogs - apprehensive at first after reading some of the moaning reviews, only to find hotel was absolutely fantastic. Hotel itself and room (Number 30) was very good and welcoming friendly atmosphere struck us immediately and made us feel at home. Staff were very friendly and attentive and food was excellent - we love this type of good, British fare - not an overhyped overpriced mish-mash of black pudding and pig's trotters with balsamic snails (with the inevitable jus) in sight ! If, like us,you like good wholesome dishes and excellent home made sweets this is for you. Outdoor pool, Jacuzzi and hot tub were so good we decided to spend a whole day at the hotel rather than go sightseeing . Views from the pretty gardens over the wide expanses of the English Channel were outstanding - especially from the patio where we enjoyed our pre-dinner drinks. Attitude of everyone to our two (well behaved) dogs was extremely friendly and encouraging - dog owners note, in this fine hotel you are treated as a friend not some sort of nuisance which has to be grudgingly accommodated (as we have found in some other places). In all honesty I cannot understand what on earth some of the negative reviews were about - I understand from the staff that one objected to the fact that he couldn't be guaranteed pole position in the dining room. I think that says more about him than the hotel.
For the rest of us who don't lose sleep over such things I would highly recommend this fantastic hotel and I not at all surprised that it has received excellence awards from TripAdvisor for so many years.

Thank you for taking the time to leave such a kind review on TripAdvisor.
It's really wonderful to hear such positive feedback on all areas of the hotel and that we made your visit to the Isle of Wight one to remember.
We're pleased that you enjoyed your stay and brought your dogs along with you, we try our best to make everyone as comfortable as possible during their stay and glad this did not go un-missed.
It's great to hear you made the most of our suberb location in Shankin and used it for exploring.
I will ensure your glowing feedback is passed onto all of the staff here at Luccombe Manor.
We look forward to welcoming you back very soon. Thank you once again.

We stayed in Room 11 and found it delightful, very peaceful, comfortable bed, mirror placed next to power socket which is always a bonus when drying hair!
Staff friendly and efficient, beautiful setting and exceptionally clean. Very convenient for Shanklin old village and lovely views. Would recommend most highly.

Just returned from a couple of nights at Luccombe Manor and the hotel, staff and facilities were excellent. We ate in the restaurant on the 1st night and the food was good wholesome traditional British cuisine. Because of the lovely weather we made use of the outdoor pool and hot tub whilst taking in the great views over the bay. All of the staff were very helpful and friendly and the hotel was very comfortable, relaxing and set in very nice grounds. In a great location only a few minutes walk from Shankin Village with several picturesque pubs and shops. We have stayed in a number of English hotels and this was far and away the best and we would definitely recommend this hotel and look forward to returning in the near future.
