We stayed for 7 days (6 nights), first week of October. Check-in was quick and easy. Cases were deliverd to our room within 15 minutes of getting off the coach. Situated in its own lawned gardens in the old town of Shanklin, but with a bus stop right outside the hotel, in both directions, it was easy to get to any part of the island (using your bus pass after 9:30am). Considering the age of the building, it is in very good order. The interior decorations are in keeping with the age.
The bedrooms in the older part are quite spacious, but the bedrooms in the newer wings are somewhat on the small side. The "swimming" pool is a bit of an exageration, 2 strokes and you have done a length. The dining room is excellent and so are the staff and meals. My wife has to have gluten free foods. The Head Waiter arranged for all sauces and gravy to be made from gluten free ingredients. Never before has she been offered this. The service was exceptional and the quality was superb. Pleanty of choice for breakfast and main meals.
Entertainment every evening, some was very good, others were on the side of mediocre, plus the obligatory 2 games of expensive bingo at £1 per ticket or 6 for £5. Beer prices are reasonable, £2.90 per pint of bitter.
NEGATIVE POINT: There is no way of contacting reception from your bedroom in the case of an emergency, as did happen to an old lady of 85 yrs old. She fell during the night and had to crawl along the corridor to the next room for help. It was later found that she had broken a rib and sveral other bumps and bruises. She was admitted to hospital and was still there when we left.
OVERALL: We really enjoyed our stay made better by all the frindly staff. Try it, you will not be disappointed.
