I'm writing this review months after my original stay because I was thinking of booking again and I noticed that it now has a tripadvisor listing.
The Hazelwood is a short walk from Shanklin station, and also convenient for the lovely sandy beach and cliff-top path. It's a bit further to the main shopping / pubs / restaurants in Shanklin, but still only about 10 minutes walk (and Saffron's is a friendly restaurant that's even nearer).
The building is a detached, double-fronted villa in a pleasant street of similar properties. There's a real feel of space and our room had a big bay window with views over the sea and inland to Ventnor Down.
This place is the most incredible value - £50 a night for a comfy, well-furnished en-suite double room. The Isle of Wight has a lot of cheap B&Bs and hotels, but the Hazelwood offers a bit more style than you might expect in this price range.
Phil and Karl are lovely and friendly - and can give good advice on things to see on the island - but not at all pushy or intrusive.More
