Our first visit to the Isle of Wight was prepared by surfing the Internet. The village Shanklin emerged as a top destination since it impressed us as very romantic, like traveling in a fairytale. In reality this proved to be absolutely right!
The Miclaran stood out as one of the best guesthouses on the island, which also proved right: the property is maintained in the finest details and kept more than hygenic, every day. The owners, Alan and Sue, truly try to contribute to a great Holiday experience on the Island, by not only making you feel comfortable 'at home' in The Miclaran, but also by providing any (touristic) guidance you might wish for.
Breakfast is served every morning: high quality and a nice variety of choices.
Last but not least: the seaview from the garden, breakfast-room and some of the rooms is really breathtaking! If you plan to go to Shanklin, you should consider a room with seaview at The Miclaran!

Found The Miclaran on the internet and had good reviews so booked for our trip to the IOW.
We were welcomed by Alan who showed us to our room, which had a fantastic sea view. The room was spotless and clean, and although a little small it had everything we needed. The garden was lovely with shrubs and trees and it was lovely to sit outside on the patio in the sunshine with a cup of tea and enjoy the sea view and fresh air.
The breakfast was delicious and the service brilliant, we couldn't have been made more welcome by Sue and Alan who were helpful and friendly and wanted our stay to be a comfortable and pleasant one.
The Miclaran overlooks Shanklin beach and the coastal path is at the bottom of the garden, and it's a lovely walk to either Sandown or to Shanklin beach and the village itself.
Would definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone. Was a lovely relaxing break.

Room tip: Believe that Rooms 8, 9 and 10 offer the best sea views

We had 4 nights at The Miclaran recently and were very impressed. Alan & Sue work hard to make your stay as comfortable as possible. The sea view rooms have beautiful views, are very clean with nice touches. The breakfast options are great and we finished off with tea in the garden. As guest houses go this has to be in the top range.
The the bed was very comfortable but top room we had was a little modest in size which may be a problem for some people. There was an issue with the WiFi, probably due to there being lots of online guests like ourselves. The WiFi service was inconsistent throughout our stay but this did not detract from the overall superiority of the establishment.

Room tip: The top level room we had was quite warm in high summer though a fan was provided.

Apologies for the delay in responding to your review.
We appreciate your comments and your patience with the Wifi.
We did have problems with our BT business router which have now been addressed by BT with a new Smart Hub, and I can report that we have seen a significant improvement since its installation. Hopefully this will continue!
