“Very pleasant short break.”
Reviewed 26 March 2014 via mobile

This is a very pleasant place to stay, great views from the rooms, very friendly staff who can't do enough to help and the food, oh good lord the food!! The breakfasts were awesome, properly filling full English affairs with more toast than we could eat, and proper coffee!!

The evening meals were excellent as well, the steak and mushroom pie is perfect, a big slab of meat, wrapped in pastry with a very tasty gravy. Anybody who complains about the food must have had their taste buds removed!

If you want a relaxing, comfortable stay, and don't mind the waistline expanding a little, then you should check out Channel View.

We have stayed at the Channel View on several previous occasions, on this visit a short break package including the ferry booking. If you like Shanklin and the surrounding area you will find no better place to stay. This hotel is brilliant. If you decide to make a booking there you will definitely not be disappointed.

Went to the Channel View as a group with our wine circle. It had been booked for some time. As the time approached we were a little concerned after the terrible weather & hearing reports of landslips. However the Gino Family & team made us very welcome from the start with tea or coffee at reception & were always very helpful (even offering to carry the cases from coach to room).
The food was excellent and very varied with a good selection at every meal. Our group has some very fussy eaters but all were very pleased with the meals. They have a very nice pool (although we did not actually use it) open from 7am to 7pm. All the rooms that we saw were different but appeared to be very well decorated & maintained. Our room was on the first floor overlooking a flat roof but we had a good view of the sea. It had a double & single & a smashing en-suite with shower. One of the rooms was a lot smaller but the couple found it very acceptable & were equally happy. There were 29 of us & no-one complained of any issues with the rooms, other than some found the beds to be a bit hard. However we were the only people in the hotel for two nights and looking at the other reviews I am sure that the owners would have sorted this out with a move to a room with a softer bed if required. Ours was actually OK (for us). Our rooms were actually cleaned by the time we returned from breakfast.
Although the clifftop path was closed towards Sandown, we were still able to walk to Sandown along the prom which was very flat. In the selection of ratings for services it refers to a fitness centre but we were not aware of one. we probably would not have used it even if there was.. as we only had the equivalent of two days (Fri-Sun). The only downside was that there was not much actually open on the island but this was due to the season & nothing to do with the hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front had best views of the sea

I recently visited the above hotel for a short break.
The room we were given was excellent, it was in excellent decorative condition, was a good size with an excellent view out into the bay & up the sea front towards the chine.
Food good & all of the staff were friendly & always ready to help.
All in all a relaxing long w/e.

Room Tip: Try to arrange room either facing the bay or along the sea front looking towards the chine

First of all, I must apologise for not writing my review sooner. I have had some building works taking place since August and my computer has not been connected until now. The last holiday my friend and myself had at The Channel View was absolutely wonderful as far as the Hotel was concerned. Everybody is so dedicated and I am so looking forward to spending my next break there in December. This will be 'Turkey and Tinsel'.

My only regret about the previous trip was the driver of the coach. Let's hope I never have the misfortune to meet him again.
