“4 nights for the Aug Bank Holiday”
Reviewed 31 August 2013

We went with tent and the usual car full of equipment to go from camping to Glamping! We picked Ninham before checking Tripadvisor (which is not like us at all) we need not have worried.

The campsite is split in to 2 areas divided by a small lake. One dog the other non dog. We stayed in the Orchard (non dog) side where the new shower block is located. What a fantastic area. We stayed on a pitch which was part of a terraced section on a slightly sloped area. The ground was easy to pitch a tent and peg in to. Very large pitch for both our tent car and space in between. We had a BBQ (off ground as required by management) and had a great time. The shower block is pristine, clean and modern with plenty of showers, wc and wash hand basins. This is closed for 2 hours 1400-1600 for a deep clean and it is truly that.

I cannot recommend Ninham enough. I have 2 suggestions though and one area of concern (which could have ruined our holiday but we didnt let it).

1. In our part of Orchard there were 5 couples staying amongst smll & large families (1 family was 6 adults and 7 children behind us on 3 pitch's). As this is such an expanse of land would it not be a good idea to dedicate part of it to "adults only"? I know through us couples talking together we would have much appreciated that opportunity. Being hit by a football twice when sitting outside having dinner is a bit off putting :)
2. 24 hour security patrols? The site asks for a pre 9am and post 9pm noise reduction for all campers, this was not adhered to on any night. On the last morning, after being kept awake until 11pm and woken at 0715 by kids running wild and parents shouting at each other every day, the last morning I had to approach the family of 13 behind us at 0715 to request that they kindly shutup. Which they did much to the appreciative thumbs up from 2 other couples who were sitting outside their tents miserbale at being woken yet again at dawn by such a big group! Surely camp security should be fulfilling this role?

Concern: Please can you manage the restriction on groups - this group was so large they had a whole pitch for a communal canteen for breki, lunch and dinner for all 13 of them. The nosie was horrific. They also had a fire pit, which is not permitted under the camp rules, and it was seen by the camp wardens twice and nothing done about it. Sparks going everywhere at night??? Surely not safe?

That being said. We had a ball, dont let our (im guessing) unusual experience with groups, put you off. The staff are lovely, Frank is a gem of a guy and so friendly. We wil be back next year (probably more than once). Hopefully to an adult only section????

Room Tip: Stay in Orchard unless your taking a dog

Just back from a 3 night last minute stay at Ninham with our two children aged 6 and 13. Booking was very good, even booked a ferry for us at a good rate. Allocated pitch 39 on arrival in The Orchard - very impressed lots of room to pitch the brand new shower block and toilets - definitely the best I've been in even first thing in the morning - very good! This block also has a laundry and about 14- washing up areas , these again kept very clean and tidy. Great location and used the bridle way twice to wAlk into shanklin about 20 mins with a couple of plodding kids! For those of you that know the island it brings you out through lower Hyde and next to lidl.
All in all the campsite was great the pool was a great bonus and again kept clean and tidy. The games room yes is dated and we didn't actually use it but appeared well kept .
The last in reception was also pleasent enough also. Great for wildlife too apparently a badger kept sniffing around the tents at night!

Oh No,what an awful time if you take children and dog at the same time you cant experience having fun , we felt like the poor relations because we took the family dog, poor toilet, shower conditions,no dog poo bins, must take dog off site for him to do his business!!?? Has to be on lead at all times, Couldn't watch children in the pool as we couldn't take the dog near by to watch them, and the rules were children had to be watched!! Total blackout at night, no light to toilet block!!no noise after 9pm!!(we were on a family holiday)Didn't find staff friendly and quite abrupt and offish in fact, he walked away when we were talking to him and so we spoke to his back!!Overall, all the campsites I have stayed on in this county and abroad this rates-0

Nice campsite with excellent communication before arrival and welcome pack left out as we were late arrival. Pitches were nice and big, although ground was very tough and a bit bumpy (pitch 87 willow brook). The washrooms were adequate, could do with a bit of an upgrade as some tiles broken and needed a good deep clean (partly because people were very messy and did not clean up after themselves! Close to Morrisons and local pub and walkable into Shaklin during the day as down some pathways. Didn't use the pool, but looked nice, again games room could do with modernising. Overall a nice site with great potential.

We recently have come back from a week at Ninham, with other family members, firstly the good- pitches were large enough for our big Vermont, and site is very well looked after, showers were old but clean and very hot which leads me to the bad. Showers were at times unbearably hot and my young children were very reluctant to use them after their first one. We were pitched next to the road and it did get noisy a couple of times at night, as there are no time restrictions. Also, although it says private road there are no security gates into the campsite, unless they rely on the man on the scooter! I have to point out, we were with family that took dogs so we were on Willow Brook behind the arrivals area, and it was very quiet and we never had to wait for the showers or washing up facility. We were told that the site had a play area but sadly this was closed as was another toilet block close by. The children were told off a couple of times by the chap on a scooter, for flying a kite and playing football in the arrivals area, despite it clearly showing this area as a Ball games area. You could argue about the kite flying as we were directly under the flight path for the close by small airport, flying small aircraft, but I think it was unnecessary as the kites were literally flying just above the hedge line. The games room was very outdated but spacious and a couple of chairs for parents to sit, the pool was a hit and enjoyed by all. Wifi is not included and quite expensive. Tried the launderette on site and washing came out clean, which compared to other sites this was brilliant. There is fishing on site, but excessive in asking for £5 per rod used, when most sites provide this for free.
Found some staff very helpful however and although this site was not for us, would be a nice find for couples who like a strict run site without dogs and children.

We have just returned from a long weekend at Ninham. We were 3 x families so we were allocated 3 pitches on the field which is for parties requiring more than 2 pitches or people with dogs. The pitches really are very large and we had 3 very level adjacent pitches. There is a heated pool which was open until 8pm so was ideal for a quick cool down after a long day out.

The toilet block on this field is the older toilet block but is clean and we never had to queue for a shower even over the bank holiday weekend. At the rear of the block is the washing up area. There is also a games room for the teenagers and small play area. The big bonus for us was that you can charge your mobiles in reception free of charge. Reception have alot if leaflets and info on IOW and we always found them helpful and knowledgeable.

There is a Morrisons within a 2 minute drive and a great family pub with a large play area within 5 mins drive called Fighting Cocks. The food is good value and excellent quality. We also ate dinner at the Pig and Whistle in Shanklin High Street where kids eat free. It is worth walking into Shanklin from campsite in the evening there is only one main car park in Shanklin Old Village serving all the main pubs and was especially busy on the Saturday evening.

We will all be back again as soooo much to see and do and Ninham had everything we needed for our brilliant weekend and is in an excellent location!
