“Wonderful sea views and friendly, helpful hosts”
Reviewed 8 October 2013

Spent 4 nights with Bob and Anne (excellent and helpful hosts) at the Carlton in Shanklin. Well situated with great sea views and 5 mins from the main high street, this a a spotlessly clean hotel with very tidy and functional rooms. We stayed in an ensuite with sea views (supplement) and verandah which gave us some spectacular views over Sandown Bay. Other than breakfast which was good, we spent very little time in the hotel but I think the decor is looking a little tired in the main areas. Breakfast was hearty and we were well served by Maz - who is a treasure - nothing is too much and the menu appears to be very flexible - one small change would really make a difference and that is to provide quality sausages - that said the rest was first class. We enjoyed our stay and will seriously consider visiting again should we return to the IOW in the near term - thank you Bob and Anne

Room Tip: The 2 bath ensuite rooms with sea views and verandahs, are by far the best

Spent 6 nights in this fabulous friendly hotel. Could not have been made more welcome by Bob, Anne and their family. Staff were exceptional and we shared a happy time with them. Will definitely return and recommend it to all our friends. Thanks a million.

Room Tip: All rooms are great but I would think the sea views are stunning.

What more can you ask for? Lovely views, easy to find, friendly staff, great breakfast choice...
We booked a last minute break for 2 nights at the Carlton and they arranged the ferry as well. The hotel itself is really well kept and offers exceptional views of the sea. The breakfast menu was excellent, lots of choice and the staff were extremely friendly.
Definitely a hotel we would recommend to others and if we were to visit the Isle Of Wight again, we'd go back to the Carlton without hesitation!
Highly recommended.

Once again Bob and Anne were superb hosts for our stay in Shanklin. One couldn't find a more friendly and well run hotel on the Island and we will be returning in 2014. A lovely family run hotel which I would strongly recommend.

We stopped at the hotel on the 19th Sept for three nights for our 10 year wedding anniversary and were made very welcome by Leigh and Dan (who we later found out weren't even the owners!). The hotel is in a great location is very clean and has an amazing sea view.
We traveled with our 1 year old and had a spotlessly clean highchair and travel cot made available to us. Even though our bathroom didn't have a bath we could use the bathroom down the hall for baby bath time.
Each evening we spent time with Leigh, Dan and the Gorgeous Miah in the hotel lounge bar which felt like we were sitting at home relaxing. Basil the cockateil was an added bonus and kept our little munchkin amused for hours, just watch out for the Lion and White Tiger ! My husband enjoyed working his way through the real ales and I the Benedictine. Leigh was only too happy to warm a bottle for our daughter before bedtime. She even stored our soya milk in the fridge as we have a dairy intolerant child.
Breakfast was lovely and plenty of choice with special attention given to our little one, they even had child friendly cups and bowls.

Thanks for having us and we will be back as long as Miah is made available to play with April and tire her out before bed !!

We stayed with Bob and team for three nights mid week in September 2013. Our room was clean and comfortable and overall, the hotel is peaceful and quiet. From the deck leading from a nicely appointed lounge, there are fantastic views of the sea and the immaculate garden. Breakfasts were great with a nice choice and waiting staff to cater to your every need.

What really stood out was the hospitality by both management and staff - I've not come across anything close in my 10 years in England. So for sure, when we return to the Isle of Wight - there's only one place we will stay - The Carlton in Shanklin!
