“A lovely friendly hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 October 2013

we stayed for 3 nights as part of our honeymoon, the hotel was friendly and quiet in a good location just a short walk from town. Breakfast was amazing, you could tell the quality of the ingredients used.

Stayed here for a 3 day break and thoroughly enjoyed travelling around the Isle. Easy access to everywhere' Hotel staff very friendly and the breakfast is fantastic, enjoyed a lovely morning swim in the indoor pool before breakfast. Would recommend this hotel and would definitely return. It would have been nice to have an evening meal available but plenty of good restaurants within 5-10 mins walk.

Unfortunately we only stayed one night as my husband was on business on the Isle of Wight but our stay was fantastic and we wanted to stay for longer. We managed to upgrade to a superior double which was a good size, tv, wardrobe, dressing table, ensuite with bath and shower, robes, lovely crisp linen and a comfy bed.
The hotel is beautifully furnished with lots of rooms to relax in and an added bonus of a small swimming pool in which we had a quick dip. They have a well stocked bar again with comfy seats and very reasonable prices.
Breakfast is served in a light, well decorated room overlooking the garden. The choice is excellent from fresh fruit, cereals, juices, homemade bread, jams, as well as a choice of cooked breakfast which had great quality produce and was very tasty, cooked to perfection, endless tea and coffee all served with a smile from the wonderful waitresses would couldn't be more helpful.
The hotel is well situated and the local restaurants are only a couple of minutes walk away ( we ate at Pendletons which was excellent)
Joanne and Julian are the ultimate hosts and run a superb hotel ( you should be very proud of the service you provide -first class) We are very much looking forward to returning in the future. Thankyou all at Fernbank.

We spent four very nice days with Jo-Ann and Julian at Fernbank. They have maintained the high standards they built up at the Havelock previously. Our room was fine, clean, quiet and warm. All the comforts one could need. The lounge areas were all very nice. We spent a couple of wet afternoons in one lounge reading our books, drinking tea and consuming Jo-Ann'e excellent Victoria sponges! Nothing is too much trouble at this establishment. You would be hard pressed to stay here and have any real complaints. All the staff try really hard, even the breakfast girls seem offended if you don't eat enough of the lovely fayre on offer. An establishment you can recommend to all and sundry without fear of being let down. Try it for yourself, satisfaction guaranteed!

Room Tip: Room 7 at the rear of the building, overlooking the garden, suited us nicely.

Spent a fabulous couple of days at this great bed and breakfast in Shanklin. We chose a Classic double room and were so pleased with it! The place was spotless, the swimming pool was warm and we swam loads. The breakfasts were excellent and there was so much choice!I must say how friendly all the staff and the owners were! There were also many places to eat just a few minutes easy walk! We just needed to stay a bit longer to see all the |Isle of Wight had to offer. Will hopefully return one day .

We have just returned from a 4 day break at Fernbank Hotel. We had a wonderful break and could not have chosen a better hotel. The very friendly staff always have a ready smile and we found breakfast so good, lunch was certainly not required. The public rooms were very relaxing and we enjoyed swimming in the indoor pool. We would recommend the hotel to everyone and will certainly return soon.

Breakfast , have had better . Bacon very salty and poor quality, Plenty of bread in fact too much. They said room was small , in fact it was extremely small , and only had a double bed. We have been to other hotels far more reasonable than Fernbank . The hotel is on a hill ,so it is very difficult for someone to walk to the centre of Shanklin , Not a lot of car parking space for all clients

Room Tip: Ask the size of the bed , if its only a double you can be sure its a small room

Firstly, how disappointed I was to receive this review. We serve only quality products which are sourced locally, for breakfast .This includes quality bacon and butchers homemade sausages. We had no other comments on the bacon being salty and the Fernbank had many other guests staying. We offer homemade bread, freshly made each morning which is very popular indeed!
You reserved a budget priced small double room for your break, these rooms all have standard 4ft 6 double beds and are very well appointed, and are extremely popular. We offer larger Classic and Superior Rooms at a supplement. Thank you for acknowledging how clean the Fernbank is. We pride ourselves, on our customer service, comfort and value for money and welcome many return guests. Thank you for your views. Jo-Anne C.
