“Comfortable traditional hotel”
Reviewed 23 March 2012

Visiting IoW and booked due to a 5-day deal and good reviews. The room was on the ground floor overlooking the garden and was a little 'tired' with a slight fusty smell in the wardrobe which was being investigated. Overall it was very clean and comfortable though. The staff were all very polite, welcoming and helpful. The restaurant has a verandah area overlooking the well-kept garden and with a sea view, although this may get hot in the summer. The breakfast menu was excellent and I would recommend the smoked haddock if you tire of the cooked breakfast.
Location is convenient for Shanklin and the coastal paths. Will definitely return next time on IoW.

I booked on a whim as a surprise for my husband's birthday. We have been to the Island many times before but had never stayed at Luccombe Hall Hotel, although we know the area well. I was totally happy with the accomodation, staff, food and cost of the weekend. All had been arranged very efficiently over the phone by the hotel staff. We had a slight blip on the night we stayed in for dinner when we had to wait for a while to receive our menus but the service we received from Janet and John plus the wine waiter made up for that. The food was excellent and pleantiful, the rooms wasa sperior sea view which had fantastic views and were in very good decorative order. We had a brilliant time and definately will return!

We love the Island, and normally bring our caravan, but booked hotel break for supprise for my wife. The hotel came up to all expectations. Friendly welcome, and very helpfull on ferry booking mistake, this was rectified immediately. Room first class with my favourite view of Culver cliffs from the balcony, (only spoilt but the mist on second day). Gardens beatifully kept. Restuarant staff very freindly and efficient, and view from conservatory table well worth it. Food was excellent just right quantity and good choice. Bedroom excellent, plenty of room with four poster and patio doors to balcony. Ensuite large with both bath and shower, clean and bright.
Reading other reviews, you obviously get what you pay for, unless they were in a different hotel. But we thought this top class room was very good value. Will definately come again
Thank you to all the staff, especially Janet in the dinning room, for making our stay very enjoyable.

Room Tip: Read the website carefully, if the chosen room doesn't say with balcony, don't expect one. N...

This was a short break booked through Travel Zoo, and was a very pleasent experience. On arrival the Young lady on Recption was very helpful showing us round and explaining all the parts of the Hotel and our room was excellent, very clean and tidy with a side view across the next doors gardens and the Sea, the outside gardens were all tidy and well maintained. The deal included the Evening meal and Bottle of Wine, the selection on the Menu was very good and was presented well, the only critism was that the Evening staff were not very with it and seemed as if they did not want be there, this may have been because the Bar/Wine Waiter really did not set the scene too well and appeared not to friendly and lacked any real personality? so this may have been passed on to the rest. The food that was served was very tasty and well presented and quite sufficient for us, really enjoyable.
The Breakfast was very comprehensive and and all that most people would need and freshly cooked if required, the one thing that was very evident was the Morning staff were very Bubbly and full of energy and chatty and very attentive, Excellent and well done to them.
This made up for the previous evenings experience.
The only Critism was that the Water flow from the Taps both Cold and Hot in the Bathroom was rather slow, this meant that the Shower was rather weak and for some reason did not flow to fast, which ever and whatever way you tried to get it to go Faster, we reported this to reception on our Departure and they were going to get it looked. So all in all we enjoyed our Two day break there.

We were given a two night break by our family. It was a nostalgic re-visit as we had many wonderful family holidays at Luccombe Hall in the 1980s and 1990s. The atmosphere was still warm and welcoming and we were delighted to find that, although everything was fresh and updated, overall much was the same, including the snug in the bar with a roaring log fire - perfect for a winter break. Staff helpful, food excellent and the bedroom and bathroom very well equipped. New conservatory area is lovely for dining. Hoping to revisit with the whole family soon.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms are lovely but we always found rooms in the older part of the building to be quieter.

Stayed here last year (2011) on a 2 night break - had a great time! Used the pool and spa extensively. I found the staff coukdn't do enough to help you and were more than accomodating!
Yes the rooms arent like the Marriot Executive rooms - but they arent at that price! I'd go back there again, event though it is a trip from Glasgow!
The Garlic farm is worth a visit as well as the bygone village - spent loads at both! Recommend for a nice qiuet break - as it was winter, can't comment on outdoor much!

We booked the special deal with the ferry crossing included with travel zoo and were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the Hotel. Very friendly, comfortable and clean. The bedroom was small but comfortable and newly decorated. Close to the beach [155 steps down to beach] and the town centre. The restaurant conservatory had a lovely view overlooking the sea. Nicely cooked breakfast and evening meal - all very well presented. The pool was very small but very warm and relaxing after a day walking. A lovely family run hotel and we look forward to going back.
