“Great Location”

Three star 31 room hotel set on the cliff. Many bedrooms have sea views. An old building not designed as a hotel so the layout is a bit odd. We had to go through the restaurant to get to our room. Gardens sloping down towards the beach, quite attractive in a run down sort of way.

Indoor and outdoor pools. Service and staff attitude very good. I shall rate "value for money" as excellent but we were on a cheap online deal. Not a large menu but food good if overpriced.

Parking could be a problem as only 9 spaces and street parking not that easy closeby. Great view but nowhere to sit and enjoy it inside unless you have one of the front tables.

Room Tip: Sea view a little more expensive but you may get an upgrade if they are not full.

We had an extended weekend through Travelzoo to celebrate my wife's birthday.
Our room was a family room overlooking the entrance. It was very large and the bathroom superb with a jaccuzzi bath and separate shower.
The staff were brilliant, nothing too much trouble.
We had evening meals on two occasions as well as breakfast each day, All food was cooked to order and of good quality.
Its location is OK with excellent views and gardens. Shanklin Old Village and its shops pubs and tearooms are but a short walk away. However it is quite hilly so anyone with walking difficulties could struggle. However to tour the island by car it is very handily placed and the bus service is frequent to Ryde and Newport (and they accept the Bus Pass for us older persons)
There is a park just down the road and we enjoyed an open air brass band concert one evening for the cost of a donation. There is also an excellent lighting display and P.L.U.T.O exhibition in the Chine just down by the park. Best to go at dusk to get the full benefit.
We rarely revisit place we have stayed in preferring to try new areas so its unlikely we would return to this hotel. However we shall have no hesitation in recommending it for friends to use should they go to the island on holiday as we enjoyed our stay there enormously.

We booked a 2 night deal with Travel Zoo which included return Red Funnel ferry from Southampton, breakfasts, 1st night 4 course evening meal + bottle of wine at a cost of £218 in total for the 2 of us. This was very good value indeed.

The Hotel is in a fantastic position overlooking the sea. The front of the hotel and front gardens were beautifully kept but sadly the interior really does need a coat of paint (paint on doors and skirtings were chipped, in the dining room there were little bits of wallpaper peeling off - generally in need of redecoration throughout). The staff however were excellent - warm and welcoming and on the ball.

We had Room 15 which was up some very narrow flights of stairs. The room was fine, the bed was very comfy and lots of coffee and tea put out. The bathroom had a large corner bath and the front panel had come away from some of it and had cracked sealant around the rest of it. The toilet could have been cleaned to a higher standard. However, the towels were soft and clean and there was plenty of hot water.

Our evening meal was very good but we thought the choice of fruit for breakfast very limited. The dining room was extremely hot and they had cooler machines which didn't really have any effect.

The view was stunning from the rear and there were plenty of nooks and cranies which had tables and chairs so you could hide away or just look at the view. The rear gardens were unkempt but had a lovely feel about them. The outdoor pool was never cleaned whilst we were there and had loads of leaves etc floating about.

Well, the indoor swimming pool and sauna had been built on in the 1980's and was certainly showing its age. This also really needed renovating.

Overall, if we had paid full price for the rooms, we would not have been very pleased. As it was it was a good price, the staff were excellent and the position of the hotel was great.

Would I choose this hotel again? Probably not but we still enjoyed our stay.

Hotel is a bit tired and there is no lift, but the staff were very helpful and kind, and the food was super. We had a short break, thoroughly enjoyed our stay even though one of our party was unwell. Fresh cooked food, a friendly bar and lovely reception staff who did everything they could to help us. We'd be happy to return.

Room Tip: Speak to hotel about any access problems when booking, because there are no lifts.

Luccombe Hall Hotel was a good value deal, with return ferry, offered through TravelZoo. It's the first time we have taken advantage of such deals and we are pleased we did. Making the arrangements was easy and the reception staff were very friendly and helpful. Our welcome was equally warm and we felt at ease straight away.
The bedrooms were roomy, the meals were good and the dining room staff cheerful and efficient. The gardens are lovely - it's a shame the weather was such that we weren't able to take advantages of them, or the very inviting looking outdoor swimming pool. Couldn't use the indoor pool - it was too hot.
We are regular visitors to the Isle of Wight and are pleased we chose Luccombe Hall, and would do so again.

Room Tip: The rooms on the lower floor are subject to noise from above.

I booked this online not knowing what to expect. The welcome we received was marvellous and we were given a seaview room. There are plenty of facilities to use - outside and indoor swiming pool, spa, games room, lounge and bar. A beautifully kept large garden beckoned but the weather was pretty aweful. We didn't have time to try everything as we wanted to see as much of the island in the little time we had. We only booked B & B but ended up having every evening meal at the hotel as well. The food and choices were really good and the staff (although all young) were friendly, polite and helpful. We hope to go back as soon as funds will allow.

Yes, the view is stunning. But this dated, dingy hotel almost negates the scenery. In lieu of caulking, part of the bathtub in our room was sealed with white duct tape. The bed was uncomfortable and the linens of poor quality. The attached deck was covered with cob webs and the furniture filthy and rusted. The breakfast was nearly inedible - as in reheated frozen hash brown patties and sausage dripping with grease. I'm sure this was a lovely place decades ago but it is now rundown - as is the entire town of Shanklin. I would advise couples looking for a romantic seaside locale to look elsewhere entirely.
