the hotel is in a good position, our room had a new and wide bathroom, the english breakfast is ok but our room and the breakfast room apparently look clean but they are not much...they could improve....

We booked the Gracellie as a last minute booking to visit a family member (my sister in law) who was working on the Isle of Wight at the time. We booked about a week in advance, and were worried that everywhere would be full. However, we looked on the Gracellie website and found rooms for a bargain price- we paid £60 each for the two double rooms that we booked. After booking, we found out my sister in law would also be joining so I phoned up- the friendly lady on reception was very accommodating and added the room onto our booking with no fuss.

Upon arrival we were shown roughly where our rooms were (it's a big hotel so wouldn't expect to be walked to the door!) and found that they had, very kindly, placed the three rooms close together. Handy when all going out together.

The rooms were spacious and well equipped, very comfy beds and generally very clean. My wife and I are sticklers for cleaning but found that generally (minus a couple of stray hairs and bits of dust) that the room was very clean and tidy!

Breakfast was delicious and service was quick and friendly, food was well cooked and a good choice too. I opted for the Full English while my (vegetarian) wife asked for Scrambled Egg on toast (a generous portion too!).

I cannot recommend the hotel enough- to be quite honest the outside appearance is a little underwhelming but I do believe some work is going on outside at the moment (summer 2014). However, this is irrelevant as the interior is lovely, well decorated and modern. There's also a lovely decking area out front which gives fantastic views of the Shanklin seafront.

Yes, there are stairs (as other reviewers have commented), but this is to be expected from a hotel of this size. I would say ensure you definitely notify staff of accessibility requirements when booking- which I'm sure you would anyway!). For us it wasn't a problem.

Room Tip: Top floor rooms (25-29) were quite warm in summer weather due to heat rising.

Have stayed at this hotel for the 8th time this weekend (15th to 17th Aug) along with our family this time too. Great friendly staff, clean and bright rooms, yummy cooked English breakfast along with the choice of various cereals and juices. The hotel is coming together nicely and the views are beautiful. Looking forward to our return in October. A big thank you to all the staff that made our weekend so fun.

PS Ample parking and seating area outside (patio and large veranda) and heated swimming pool out the back, very short walk to the beautiful beach.

Room Tip: Room 20 has a lovely big bathroom and pool view, 19 is smaller but a lovely view of the sea. We have...

The hotel is near sea about 1000 yards away not 100.
a hill climb back up about 15 minutes to the hotel.
but on the coastal path and about 10 minutes on the lift which charge £1.00
the bedrooms and linen were clean and serviced,
the restaurant and staff were ok ,but staff shortage meant we had a wait to be served,
the menu was limited but good quality.
The hotel restaurant was clean but the other rooms were dated ,access to pool and garden patio needed to be cleaned up and repaired broken steps to pool ,(health and safety issue ) more lighting in staircases needed, not much entertainment in the evenings.
Are holiday its self was not what we exspected of the island every we're we went it's pay pay pay.
We payed for are stay as soon as we walked through the front door.
Think that was because you wouldn't be able to find anyone on your way out.
We had a room with a vew !! The bins out back that attracted see gulls at 05:00 in the morning and what a racket.
In all hana and carl seemed to be running the place as best they could give them a medal.
Manager couldn't be found half the time.

holiday wasn't to bad, but we wouldn't return to the island.
Highly over rated place

During our stay at the hotel we were greated by a very friendly lady, and shown to our room. We noticed that the shower head wouldn't stay in place so I used a key to tighten the screw.!! The Breakfast throughout our stay was very good and tasty, but for the majority of our stay we were not welcomed into the restaurant and were forgotten about over other people who had arrived after us. The tables were rarely set properly, if we were brought a pot of tea, the milk was forgotten!! It was frustrating because it happened most days. The bar was dark and dingy. The housekeeping staff came every day and the room was very clean, although I also had to do a bit of diy with the side lamps aswell as they were falling off of there bases!!!! Probably wont go back until the miserable breakfast staff cheer up!!!!

On arriving, met in reception by a very cheerful young lady (who also served us our drinks at the
bar as well as serving us breakfast)!! During our five night stay I only saw two working members of staff.Reported a faulty locking mechanism that held the shower head in position, duly noted but
no action taken.Have you ever tried showering while holding the shower head in one hand?
Breakfasts were nice and served with a smile, but we declined the offer of an evening meal as the
choice was never more than two dishes which was ok if you like chilli con carne or cod and chips!
Bedroom was clean but not very well thought out.'wardrobe' consisted of a hanging rail about 12"
wide, the two coats we brought had to be hung from the standard lamp in the corner of the room.
Why can't they put a coat hanger(or two) behind the door?

Room Tip: Upstairs rooms are quieter.Don't take a room near the pool if possible because of the noise.

stayed for a couple of nights - found it a bit "grubby". Breakfast ok but the glasses and cutlery were not the cleanest. The glasses used at the bar were again mucky. I think their dishwasher doesn't rinse properly. Bed seemed clean but the room only had a bath - no shower or shower attachment on the bath. The staff seemed to have their breaks outside our window, so we were woken quite early

Thank you for your review and your positive comments. The manager (Darren) has now introduced a NO SMOKING policy whilst staff are working so hopefully future guests will not be woken early! We look forward to your next visit and hopefully a 5 star review!
