My friend and I stayed recently at the weekend. The room was nice and cozy, had everything we needed and suited us well. Breakfast was also very good - plently of choice. The staff themselves were friendly and happy to help. The location is very handy, not a long walk to the beach and transport or the villiage. We hope to be back and thank you for a charming stay.

We stayed for two nights at The Marlborough. The staff were very good - courteous, helpful, informative, fast.

The room itself was very disappointing. The bed was uncomfortable and felt old. The bathroom was very small and tired. The carpet was old. The TV was the smallest I have seen for a while.

Having said that, it was clean.

I did not see any other hotels in Shanklin but really cannot imagine the Marlborough is the best for the price.

Room Tip: Only saw one room but I would never stay in room 9 again!!!

The hotel staff, service, linen, food are excellent, location is central with a good bus service to enable you to get around the island. There is a lovely beach within 5 minutes walk of the hotel which you approach via a long slope or a lift at a charge of £1 per trip, the lift closes at 10.55 pm (believe me you will need the lift for the return trip, if you are laden down). We visited this hotel as part of a coach trip party and thoroughly enjoyed our stay, however I must confess the room, although serviceable, was very tired and in desparate need of a revamp, carpets, decoration, furniture, also the outside of the building could do with a bit of a makeover. Overall a lovely break away was had by all, would return, although would like to see improvements to the bedrooms.

I left it late booking a hotel when I was on business at the Isle of Wight festival, and was faced with a choice of 2 hotels on the whole island :s

The Marlborough seemed the best of a bad choice and we travelled down with admittedly low expectations.

On arrival all these expectations were forgotten about - yes it's a little quirkily decorated, but the staff were brilliant and very attentive, and the breakfast had everything you'd want. The hotel is literally a 2 minute walk from the seafront, it was sunny so it was really nice on the beach, and a 5 minute walk from the old village where there's loads of nice places to eat and drink.

It does exactly what is says on the tin - its a solid bed and breakfast in a great position

I actually liked it here! Near to cliffs and beach. Staff extremely friendly and couldn't do enough. More coffee and toast at breakfast which was suprisingly good for the price we paid. It does need redecorating and new carpets - it is a bit dated with old fashioned pictures on the walls etc. However the folk running it know how to make people feel welcome which counts for a lot.

Room Tip: Choose this for location and value not for decor.

This hotel was the best for service and personal attention we have ever stayed in and we have stayed at 5* hotels don't get me wrong the building could do with some modernization but the staff and food make you forget all about that.
The rooms are very clean and comfortable.
We are going back for a proper stay there as we only needed it for one night and booked it last minute as we was stuck on the Island and could not get home till the next day

Already reviewed this hotel in May '11, but big thank you's to Pascual and his team for another amazing weekend - great service from the staff, the food was lovely and fresh and the 2 night stay was brilliant value. Thanks and see you again next year hopefully!
