this hotel is a good base to explore the isle of Wight . the Marlborough is on the cliff top about one street back , not far to walk to see Shanklin and Sandown bays . there are paths on top of the cliffs and down next to the sea and a lift to get you back up to the top if you cannot get back yourself . the food in the hotel was very good, meat and fish on offer , the fish had very nice sauces to compliment and all the vegetables were nicely cooked, there are also salads if you want , a good choice of breakfasts to suit all tastes, the young girls and boys who served were a delight , always with a smile on there faces and so polite . the room was small but still had all you could want , as the weather was not so good , the heating was on in the rooms and was lovely and warm to come back to after a day out , the only gripe was the bathroom was cold . there is a nice garden with seating if you wished to smoke or just watch the street scene . the area is nice and quiet so no traffic or people noise at the end of the day , i would come back again to this hotel . the owners work hard to make this hotel a place that says come back again

Room Tip: there are stairs so if you cannot climb ask for lower rooms

We visited this Hotel last weekend 14th September 2012. We got a great deal on-line, and as it was such a great price, we were unsure what to expect.
We were made to feel welcome as soon as we arrived.

The hotel is lovely downstairs and if I am honest could do with some TLC upstairs, having saying that it was spotless and our room was very adiquate, maybe a dressing table for us ladies would have been good :-) but please dont be put off.

The breakfast was brilliant, so much choice and very well presented and cooked.

The Hotel location is great too.

So I would recommend this hotel.

Thanks to the staff for making us very welcome

I don't want much from a hotel: I like to be greeted as if they are pleased to see me; I like a room that is quiet and clean, a parking area that is off the street and some garden space to stretch the legs without encroaching upon another but most of all I like the reception. For my wife and I this is exactly what we got.

We don't like anti-septic hotels where you are a face and passed on, we also like peace and quiet, privacy too. The staff are all great and we never felt like we were a chore. We like a choice of breakfasts and these were available in trumps, wonderfully presented, staff who were always present but never intrusive and lots of everything.

Location-wise it was a good choice. The little down centre has it all, an array of good shops, banks, food and gift stores, and churches is barely ten minutes walk away. A five minute walk in the opposite direction take you too the cliff lift that puts you right on the promenade - it would take you a 10 minute drive to arrive at the same location.

Many thanks to the staff at the Marlborough Hotel at Shanklin, we only came for one night but we are already making plans to return.

Room Tip: Ideal for disabled travellers with easy ramps and wide corridors.

We stayed here for one night and we had a lovely stay. We had nothing to find fault with and will definitely come back again....right near Shankin shops and old village and the coastal walk to Sandown is well worth doing! The breakfast here is amazing and the welcome we received was genuine and the staff are all friendly and helpful. If you are looking for a clean, comfortable and friendly hotel then this is the one to book...

My friend and I stayed recently at the weekend. The room was nice and cozy, had everything we needed and suited us well. Breakfast was also very good - plently of choice. The staff themselves were friendly and happy to help. The location is very handy, not a long walk to the beach and transport or the villiage. We hope to be back and thank you for a charming stay.

We stayed for two nights at The Marlborough. The staff were very good - courteous, helpful, informative, fast.

The room itself was very disappointing. The bed was uncomfortable and felt old. The bathroom was very small and tired. The carpet was old. The TV was the smallest I have seen for a while.

Having said that, it was clean.

I did not see any other hotels in Shanklin but really cannot imagine the Marlborough is the best for the price.

Room Tip: Only saw one room but I would never stay in room 9 again!!!
