“Nice Enough”
Reviewed 1 September 2011

The B&B was clean and fairly well located. I don't have any complaints except that the bed was tiny and so one night I ended up sleeping on the floor to get some space. However, from most of the reviews on here I was expecting a lot more. People seem to rave about it but I found it just ok. I have stayed in nicer guesthouses and didn't find that Foxhills was outstanding.

We had a 3 night stay over the Bank Holiday weekend. This is more than a B & B. The location is excellent – only a 10 minute walk from Old Shanklin village where you will find plenty of restaurants. The B & B is spotlessly clean, comfortably furnished and most important, James and Paula are extremely welcoming. The breakfast is excellent, 5* all the way. A wide menu choice, (we highly recommend the Foxhills Special) everything cooked fresh to order and every whim taken care of. A guest review system of local restaurants is available in the breakfast room, very helpful considering the amount of restaurants in town.
James and Paul offer room service FOC and an excellent cocktail menu. There is also a Jacuzzi for private use (bathrobes supplied) and beauty therapy treatments are available if booked in advance. I had a wonderful facial and back cleanse and massage.
James and Paula have gone to great lengths to ensure everything is provided for. They have even produced a wonderful round the island tour guide, taking you to places you would never find without their explicit directions.
We have travelled to plenty of places, stayed in many hotels and B & B’s and this has to be one of the best.

I have only one negative comment - the shower is not very big or powerful but it is sufficient.

We stayed three nights at this excellent B & B and the service and cleanliness couldn't have been better. James was there at every turn - he didn't even allow us to carry our own newspaper to the table at breakfast! The Spa was a wonderful added luxury and we were grateful for the delicious evening snack he served us (a "Foxhill Special") when we didn't feel like venturing out one evening. We liked the idea of collecting guests reviews of local eating places. The only downside was Shanklyn itself which is not a great area to stay in, particularly in August and we should have liked more recommendations of places to see. We shall certainly recommend this to anyone considering a few nights in that area.

Room Tip: Double bed at back too small for us, but front was fine. Internet signal not good in bedrooms.

James was most welcoming on arrival, and indeed through out our stay. The Guest House is kept beautifully, the rooms and communal areas all spotless. Always a sign of a great place to stay!

As advertised the breakfast was very good indeed. The rooms comfortable and quiet. The spa an added bonus to the accomodation. The Guest House itself is in easy walking distance of Shanklin / Old Town which is perfect for trips out to the restaurants and pubs of the town in the evening.

All in all very pleasant stay indeed, thanks very much to James and the team. Would highlighly recommend Foxhills! S & K

Stayed for one night on our first ever trip to the Isle of Wight. James could not have been more welcoming when we arrived, providing a guided tour, tea and homemade chocolates and called us by our names.
Room was spotless and at the back of the property so nice and quiet. We were provided with keys and told to come and go as we pleased. Tea and coffee in the rooms, which is always nice, along with a little note saying if fresh milk was preferred it would be provided.
We made use of the spa room, which was most welcoming after walking all afternoon, and robes and towels are provided.
Breakfast was delicious, with every option you could imagine available. I had a lovely fresh fruit salad and yogurt followed by poached egg on toast, andJjames even asked if I wanted butter on my toast, which I didn't, but no one ever asks! My partner had the full English, which went down a treat.
All in all, James and Paula have thought of every detail that goes into making a guest house that little bit special, and when i return to Shanklin it will be my first choice of place to stay. You will not be disappointed.

We'd read all the previous reviews so high expectations had already been set. However it significantly exceeded these and any future Isle of Wight visits will be based here.

Room was spotless - didn't realise it was possible to get a room this clean. Staying in the four-poster Osbourne suite it was very comfortable and in great condition. However it was the service that stood out - excellent all round. Won't go into too many details as that will spoil it a little but essentially yo have all the benefits of a hotel (room service etc.) with the charm of a local B&B.

Location was great as well - easy walk into the centre of Shanklin old town (the nice area).

Having travelled a little for both work and pleasure, this is one of the few places we would definitely return too!
