“Disappointing visit”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 July 2014

Visited here on a Sunday. Reserved the table at lunchtime for 7.30pm that evening and was advised last food orders at 8.30pm.

Served drinks quickly but despite asking a member of staff if they would be kind enough to take our order we waited 30 minutes before our food order was taken and another 30 minutes before we served our food, total of 1 hour for food.

We did speak with the waiter twice regarding the delays and he advised that last orders were 7.30pm despite us advising we were told 8.30pm during our earlier telephone conversation. Other tables came in just before and one large party in a private room about the same time as us. It would have been helpful if waiter had advised re the last order timing when we arrived (we arrived 10 minutes before our table was book so there was ample opportunity) and that there might be a delay due to a large party arriving. Waiter aware that we did not receive good service and had waited a long time to be served as after we had paid the money he advised that we would receive a free course next time, advised this was our last night but no offer of a refund. Food ok but overall disappointing visit.

“Unpleasant staff”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 July 2014

When asking for a Pint Grigio Rose guy on bar said there is not a Rose, only a white pinot, obviously does not know his wines. At the same time staff were rude to to a German gentleman when he asked for a particular coffee, just the way they spoke to him and myself. Then table my wife and I sat at had a big piece of the table missing from the corner. I was recommended to visit this pub, but I will not be going again.

“Very pleasant meal at The Chine Inn”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 July 2014

During a recent holiday in Shanklin, four of us dined at The Chine Inn on one evening.

Service was friendly, food unpretentious and wholesome and the price very reasonable.

Would recommend to anyone visiting Shanklin for a pleasant pub dining experience.

“Great little pub”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 July 2014

Had a weeks holiday on the Isle of Wight based in Shanklin. The Chine Inn was on the path down to the beach and was dog friendly, so popped in. Very welcoming, friendly staff, good beer and excellent food, ate there twice. Our dog loved the treats provided by the staff. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed, best to book if you want to eat.

“Don't bother”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 July 2014 via mobile

Apparently there is a sea view, it was hard to tell as the windows were so filthy! The food is standard, boring, catering wholesale fare with not much imagination and even less skill in execution. The service was as amateur as the food preparation. Unfortunately as with many places on Shanklin, the focus seems to be on quantity rather than quality, on economies of scale rather than attention to detail. The whole experience just left us feeling numb.

1 review ! malicious ...?

Standard, boring, catering wholesale fare WE ARE NOT!
Have you actually visited us? As if you had you may have noticed our local producers board which would show that we source local heritage varieties of tomatoes from Arreton, beetroots, chard, broad beans, potatoes, patty pans, courgettes and much more from Apse Heath, IOW farmed beef & lamb, locally caught fish & Bembridge crab & lobsters (featured in the August edition of Jamie Oliver magazine nonetheless!) and many others.

Our menu does contain pub classics & we also have a widely varied far from standard seasonal specials board all prepared on site, which we have received rave reviews about on TA.

I think the majority of trip advisor users will see through this review, and we hope you get re-employed soon.
Check out our specials board, local meat, ,vegetables and finished dishes at chine inn on facebook
