Just returned from the Just go coach weekend to Holliers. All the staff were pleasant and helpful. Excellent location.
Room 2 is basic with a view to the rear. Very soft bed, thin towels (not changed), basic shower, small tv, no extractor fan, plenty of storage space. Quiet during the night. Ample tea/coffee supplies. Re-decoration required.
Food was plentiful, carvery meat good quality, but we were not happy with the greasy fried breakfasts, as we only grill or poach. Restaurant staff hard working and you have to wait for service until someone walks by.
Evening entertainment is good, beer prices are competitive.
Completely happy with the coach and driver, except we were not told where the outside picnic areas are at the service station stops.
Overall a good holiday for the price we paid and no hesitation in recommending Just go..

Room Tip: check out the room before acceptance - presume that you get what you pay for as they are all differe...

We recently booked to stay at 'The Ocean View' hotel but were changed to The Holliers at the last minute by 'JustGo' coach holiday company who assured us that it was a lovely hotel, great location, same facilites such as a pool etc.. Let's start with the welcome, which was warm and pleasant, from the proprietor, Steve. He told us to go straight to reception where Dawn was waiting to hand out our keys. Dawn is not so cheerful but worked swiftly and we were directed to our room on the first floor. Note there is no lift at this hotel - but if you can't manage your suitcase it will be taken to your room for you. Our room was number 15, overlooking the car park, which was quiet during our stay as most guests were from our coach. Room 15 is a 'family room' with a small double bed, a single bed & bunkbeds. There were two bedside tables with reading lamps,a double wardrobe with plenty of coat hangers, two suitcase stands, a vanity table & chair, a wall mirror, a small hairdryer, a kettle & tea/coffee making facilities and a very small wall-mounted TV and one small shabby chair. The beds have all seen better days, they are terrible, as are the duvets & pillows, they should be replaced. It would be nice to see less cobwebs hanging from the coving and not to have mouldy curtains ! There is no safe for valuables so take these out with you rather than leave them in your room.
The en-suite bathroom was in need of refurbishment including a decent shower attachment ( this shower is an over-bath type, meaning you need to step in to the bath to use it ) as the wall fitting was too small to hold the shower head making showering an awkward job. If you have difficulty getting in and out of a bath, this must be taken into consideration as the step in, and especially out, is steep. The non-slip bathmat provided is old and the glass shower screen needs a deep clean - the edges were black with mould, and the bath was chipped in several places. It would be handy to have some shelves and a towel rail - there's nowhere to put anything. Toilet paper that's provided was thin, bring your own ! The towels were normal white hotel-type, there's a hand towel & a bath towel per guest, these were not changed during our 3 night stay. Bring all your own toiletries as all that is provided is a minute tablet of soap which on use is like using a piece of lard. The room is 'cleaned' daily, though not on Sundays !
Mealtimes for us were set times as it's a coach party, and a table was allocated on arrival at the restaurant. The tables were clean and well laid, the floor was clean & the waiting staff were pleasant & efficient. Each night for dinner the 'starter' was either apple/orange juice or soup & a bread roll, the main meal was a carvery, with a choice of three meats, which varied on each night, ( Gammon & Pork were tender, Beef was tough, Turkey moist ) and plenty of vegetable choice, a yorkshire pudding ( one each only ! ) and good tasty gravy. (We were given a choice of ham salad and smoked haddock & chips on the next two nights but stuck with the carvery) Dessert is a choice of cake or tinned peach slices & cream. Some people naughtily chose their dessert as they went in to dinner, the cream scones all went very quickly !
Breakfast was a buffet of ' full English' - plentiful amounts of bacon, mushrooms, egg, tomato, sausages, beans & fried bread. There's toast too but its cold, limp & chewy. There was also a choice of three breakfast cereals and grapefruit pieces, apple or orange juice, mini tubs of jam/marmalade and plenty of tea or coffee. Staff were good at clearing & cleaning the tables, and topping up teas & coffee. On our last evening we were asked if anyone would like to order one of their 'amazing' sandwiches ( approx £2.95 ) or packed lunches (approx £4.95) for the journey home. Those that had ordered were very disappointed when they saw their sandwich consisting of two thin slices of white bread containing a piece of pressed chicken or cheese. Packed lunches had the addition of a packet of crisps & a small bottle of water !.
There is nightly entertainment in the 'Piano Bar' - though you won't hear the piano played as it has no keyboard. Entertainment each night was provided by a singer, we didn't find the noise intrusive & it stopped at around 11.00pm. The hotel has a bar, ( very pricey - go elsewhere for a drink ) TV lounge and a 'reading room', if you hunt around abit you'll find the sauna and indoor pool - but frankly you'll want to give the changing areas & shower a miss, they are a disgrace, and the (very cold ) pool is only accessed via a pool ladder, no good if you can't climb very well. The advertised 'outdoor pool & jacuzzi/kids pool' are non-functioning, the pool is covered with timber decking and the jacuzzi/kids pool is now a tatty flower bed. There's a small play area for kids and grassed area, with outdoor table/benches, but no sun-loungers. The rear outdoor communal area from the hotel to the garden is almost derelict & full of cigarette butts.
All in I would have much preferred to stay in another hotel, and wouldn't recommend this place, I believe it has no official star rating and it's just above hostel status in my opinion. I'm posting photos so you can make your own decision. Seems like the owners are only interested in the Carvery/food side of the business and not the comfort/cleanliness of the guest rooms, which is a shame as the surrounding old village is beautiful. Well worth a mention is 'Vernon Cottage', a delightful pub/restaurant a few minutes walk away, but all of the picturesque old village is worth exploring, or if you're able, it's nice to take a walk along the cliff top to Shanklin - there's a lift down to the beach located opposite the 'Ocean View' hotel, you pay of course, but you may need to use it after a full day of exploring this gorgeous, delightful island .....

Room Tip: If you have any mobility issues look elsewhere as this hotel has no lift, no walk-in shower.

Spent a long weekend at the Hollier’s with Just Go, I found this trip really good value for money, the hosts were great and the food excellent. Would go again but not do the tour around the island I found this too much time sitting on a coach when you can be exploring shankin or sandown itself. The bathrooms may not be to the highest standard but are functional I would not let this spoil your trip. The location is excellent walking distance to everything and lots of things to do in the evening. Thumbs up from us.

Room Tip: there is no lift so if getting up stairs is an issue request a room just one floor up which i did, y...

The hotel is situated in a picturesque village and is a great base to explore the island. Throughout our stay we were made to feel very welcome, Dawn and Ste were extremely friendly and able to recomend local places of interest.
Our room was lovely, stunning views of the old village. The breakfast and the carvery must be tried- plently of choice and great value for money. It is refreshing to find a hotel which has great entertainment every night-we spent every night in the piano bar as each act was enjoyable and different from the previous night.
This is the second time we have stayed here and would not hesitate to go back again!!!

We stay at this hotel every time we go to iow because it's like going abroad, there is fantastic entertainment every night, the gardens are beautiful, the carvery and carvery breakfast is fresh and not frozen rubbish! The staff are very welcoming and the rooms are very comfy and modern for a listed building, I have read a couple of bad reviews regarding bathrooms may be because its listed! We have stayed in 3 different rooms & we can't complain, we stayed for the carnival on both nights and the outside entertainment in the gardens was brilliant, we love the Holliers that much we have just booked again for turkey n tincle for Xmas. Thanks dawn & Steve so many good memory's.
