“Fantastic holiday”
Reviewed 26 August 2012

I wasn't sure what to expect having read the varied reviews on this site but this is a great hotel. What you have to do is keep a perspective on what you have actually paid. This is not the Ritz and you are not paying Ritz prices. For the money paid for the JustGo holiday this hotel is excellent. The staff are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. The food is well prepared and ample. The beds were so comfortable I didnt want to get out of them in the morning. There was entertainment on in the hotel every night but this in no way was disruptive if you wanted to retire early. The only downside we encountered is that there is no lift if you have a relative who has trouble with stairs. We had rooms on the first floor and my mum managed the stairs ok, with the occassional moan. It has a picturesque location in the Old part of Shanklin. All round it was an excellent holiday and wondering when we can go again.

don,t normally write reviews where i been but in this occasion i must. the hotel does need upgrading or a facelift ,but that is the beauty of it. old traditional seaside hotel. the rooms are ok ,facilities ok,food good, carvery plus different options. good choice of wines ,beers .indoors pool, big patio area music every night. the main point is the staff .working hard and smiiling every time young staff but polite .i think the manager i don,t remember the name louise??we got check in by this lady and the next minute she was serving us at the bar. hard working staff. we thinking to visit this hotel again in the near future ...keep up the hard work guys

Myself and my friend have just came back from staying at the holliers with just go hoildays. The good points about the hotel was the carvery was nice, the waitress and bar staff was friendly. w the hotel is clean in most areas. Also there is plenty of room for storage in the rooms and beds were comfortable. The entertainment was brilliant, the girls who sang in my view should be singing in the westend not at a budget hotel!!
And now for the bad...this has to be the worst hotel for customer service esp dawn the managers wife who never said hello to anyone and she never had a smile on her face!steve the manager allways spoke but coming home the people on our coach was saying how rude he could be.. but he does not seem to care about getting to know his guests but rather be getting drunk in the bar at night with his staff and locals!the drinks are very expensive in the bar too so drink at the pub next door.
As for the meals the breakfast was nasty and full of fat and grease go up the road for a fresh fry up at the local cafe..
The room we had was looking over the main road it was noisy at nights and hot and could not have the windows open due to the noise.also the bathrooms need up dating and you have to be on the small side to fit on the toilet............overall what we paid for i would of rather stayed in another budget hotel on the island.I think the owners should take a look at the negatives of this hotel and turn them into the postives and i believe one day it could be a 4 or 5 star hotel as its in a great location!!

Room Tip: ask for room at the back of the hotel

This hotel in Shanklin is just simply the best! The Hosts were amazing as was the entertainment in the piano bar! The facilities in Holliers Hotel were brilliant. Great Value for money. Our room was very very nice, we had a family room (room 15) for 5 people, beds were very comfortable. Food was absolutely amazing breakfast and carvery. Once again the hosts Dawn & Steve were amazing and very funny indeed. Recommend to anyone that is going to the Isle Of Wight.

we have just arrived back home & we want to go back to the holliers, what a great time we had from the second we arrived from the porter taking our suit cases, the room was number 15 which we all really liked with comfy beds, tea & coffee, a beautiful fiew of thach cottages, decent size bathroom and very clean. the carvery was great all fresh foods with cream cakes n cheese cakes etc, the meat is very good and local, the owner dawn carves the meat and you get lots of it, louise the lady on reception was very friendly steve the owner is the chef and is very good at it, the entertainment its self was fantastic with a robbie williams night and it was great, lots of great acts on every night, beautiful gardens and childs play area, indoor swimming pool is nice. overall this hotel is in a fantastic location, it has local people eating here and great value for money, me & my family are coming back to the holliers as we loved this hotel.

Just had a smashing weekend in Shanklin on the Isle of Wight where we stopped at the Holliers Hotel in Old Shanklin Village. Stephen and Dawn Leach run a lovely hotel, with friendly staff, clean rooms, and remarkable food. We stayed on a half-board basis and the food was of a standard that could not be beaten at The Dorchester Hotel in London. The breakfast had everything that you could think of to eat, and for dinner there was a carvery every night with at least three lovely joints of meat (which are sourced on the island, making them so tender) and loads of lovely fresh vegetables. There was entertainment every night, including a Robbie Williams tribute on Saturday night who was exceptional. The guy's name was Tony Lewis and he was a friend of the landlord. What a lovely chap. And it was the beginning of Cowes week so we were mixing it with the sailing fraternity. Anyway, back to the hotel. The rooms were spacious and clean, and we were made very welcome. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who travels to Shanklin. They have a website (www.holliershotel.co.uk) so check it out. You will not be disappointed.

Just returned from the Just go coach weekend to Holliers. All the staff were pleasant and helpful. Excellent location.
Room 2 is basic with a view to the rear. Very soft bed, thin towels (not changed), basic shower, small tv, no extractor fan, plenty of storage space. Quiet during the night. Ample tea/coffee supplies. Re-decoration required.
Food was plentiful, carvery meat good quality, but we were not happy with the greasy fried breakfasts, as we only grill or poach. Restaurant staff hard working and you have to wait for service until someone walks by.
Evening entertainment is good, beer prices are competitive.
Completely happy with the coach and driver, except we were not told where the outside picnic areas are at the service station stops.
Overall a good holiday for the price we paid and no hesitation in recommending Just go..

Room Tip: check out the room before acceptance - presume that you get what you pay for as they are all differe...
