We have just returned from a 5 day mini-break with Just Go Coaching Holidays and have to say that after booking the holiday, we were approaching it with anticipation and with some trepidation. The former as it was my wife's first ever trip to the I of W and I had not been for 30yrs and the latter due to reading some of the revues posted here. Whilst I'm sure there are those who would feel it extremely arrogant of us to say so, here is a truly unbiased and honest account of our holiday. Our experience just does not tally with what some have written on this forum, and we would question their reliability and truthfulness. Steve, the proprietor, was/is an extremely outgoing individual with a dry sense of humour, somewhat similar to ours, however, if this clashes with someone else's personality, we can see how it might be interpreted as arrogant, but it is not, it is being confident and gregarious. Dawn was also very pleasant and friendly, as, indeed, were all the staff at the hotel. Our room was clean and tidy, and everything worked as it should. It was, however, a little dated, but this is what is known as "a typical provincial hotel". On a budget holiday, this hotel is not meant to be King Solomon's Temple, with it's abundance of riches. The bed was comfortable and the linen clean and fresh, and the room was replenished properly and fully each day (clean towels, tea-making facilities etc). The dining room was also clean and hygenic, along with all the other communal areas that we frequented during our short stay. The food was tasty and plentiful, although Steve's claim upon arrival that there were 5 choices for dinner was a little misleading (although true) as this consisted of a vegetarian option, option of the day or a carvery with a choice of three different meats. We have to state, that we have never been given as much meat at a carvery sitting as we were at the Holliers. Entertainment was provided and included on three of the four nights of our stay, with Steve and Dawn in attendance, which we thought was a refreshing change from some hotels we have stayed at whereby "mein hosts" make themselves scarce and unavailable to their customers, and the drinks were reasonable priced as well!! It was just a shame that the entertainer was being drowned out at times by the handful of selfish cretins in our party that were making a lot of noise and a nuisance of themselves to the detriment of others. We're not party pooopers, they went beyond having a good time. The same people that had to much to say about the hotel, but seemed incapable of modifying their own behaviour. We thought Steve and Dawn were magnificent in putting up with it. When we enquired about local info,it was forthcoming and accurate. The hotel occupies a wonderful prime position in Shanklin Old Village, only a short walk away from all the amenities Shanklin has to offer Now for a bit of criticism. Steve, we fully appreciate, possible more than most due to work, of what you were trying to achieve with the hand sanitiser, but I think your timing here is wrong. A vast majority of our coach party were whingeing about it all week. I think you need to put it at the end of your welcoming introduction, something along the lines of " and finally everyone and this is very very important, could you please.....etc etc ". Finally, and in conclusion, what a fantastic mini break we had and we will definitely return.
