“Dirty and very old”
Reviewed 10 August 2014

The hotel was old, the bathrooms dirty and the rooms badly decorated. The toilet seat fell of the first time I touched it. And I don't know how I would be able to shower in there. It was a very big hotel, and I doubt it was only a few rooms vacant which it said when we booked rooms. It was very out of date and it stank of smoke even though it was forbidden to smoke there. The breakfast wasn't much to brag about either. There wasn't anything I could eat there, so I have to go to this tiny kiosk (which didn't have much to choose from either) to buy bananas. Very disappointing, do not recommend this place.

What an awful experience!. I am so ashamed at what I witnessed from the Napoleonic reception to the 'Demand for my friend to sign a ;disclaim; - basically if he fell then he would not sue the hotel ?. 'Or ' If he did not sign He and presumably his able bodied wife to leave the hotel' at 8pm we had only arrived at 7;45] All because he had crutches? .All 6 of us under the age of 60..so all wondering what the hell ls going on were concerned for the remaining people( majority over 70] if they were also asked to sign disclaimers and given we were the ' Young ones in the group' In conclusion The Holliers need to be considered as a destination where JUST GO Holidays take frail elderly people for a break,// - NOT My Mum and Dad - Not really appropriate ??? Check the accesS ....- NO WAY WOULD SUGGEST IT AS A DESTINATION For My Mum .Dad .Think Price Think DIGNITY ...No price on that .

We were looking for somewhere to eat in Shanklin on Friday night and come across Holliers Hotel which servers a carvery or sizzlers. We opted for the carvery and where not disappointed great value for money.

I was born and grew up on the Island and Holliers had reputation for being one of best hotels. Stayed there for one night and was really disappointed. The drinks are definitely overpriced and rooms have seen better days. The maintenance seems no existent as I had to do running repairs on shower and toilet seat that kept falling off. The decoration, furniture an general condition is not good, which is shame as building has such great potential. The beds were however comfortable - just a bit small. Some staff were friendly but others could do with some training in customer care. The entertainer was good and breakfast was also OK..
Just needs some investment to bring this tired hotel into this century and back to the reputation it used to have.

We recently travelled to Shanklin with Just Go holidays. On arrival at the hotel we got the standard spiel from the owner Steve about how we would have a wonderful time, and enjoy all the facilities the hotel had to offer. We were told to go through the Piano bar to reception and check in.Well it was a bar , and it did have a piano, but a piano needs keys and strings to be played this was just a shell, no more than a large ornament.
Apon getting our room key we made our way to our room and what a shock, the door was just a dilapidated hardboard double skin with a yale lock and was not even sitting square in its frame. An old handle was screwed on just to give you something to get hold of.You did not need to shut the door as because it was out of true, gravity shut the door for you!
The rest of the room was very disappointing, the floor had a pronounced slope so none of the furniture sat level and what furniture we did have was very dated and in need of replacing.
The bathroom was even worse. The floor tiles did not fit the whole floor and so a large piece of plywood was screwed to the floor to fill the last bit of the floor.Ther was hardly any grout between the tiles so any water that went onto the floor would go straight under the rest of the floor, some of the tiles you could pick up because they no longer had any adhesive under them.
The shower was of the mixer tap kind, but the pipe would only just reach the shower head holder and so the water would come out at an angle and not straight down,
The bathroom in summary was not very clean with mould and mildew in abundance.
The window was of the sash type and again had plenty of black mould around it, like a previous reviewer we also had a window box but ours was growing out of the outside walls.
There were cracks in the ceiling and the room needed a complete refurbishment.
The hotel had a pool so we were looking forward to using that until we saw it. It was accessed through a dark dingy corridor had two dirty showers and the actual pool was very small and absolutely stank of chlorine, it made your eyes water.
The owner told us that some rooms would smell of fresh paint but our friends room stank of bleach!
One redeeming point was that the food was very good, quite a good range although the carvery was a everpresent feature.
The restaurant looked like it might have been tarted up although none of the light fixtures had a full compliment of working bulbs.
This would appear to be a truly family run hotel, but many people would be put off by the owners grandson constantly running about in the restaurant at meal times and playing with the raise/lower switch on the chilled counter fridge cover.
The evening entertainment with the exception of one young lady singer was very poor most of our coach party would head off up the road to a rival hotel and watch theirs.
There would usually be a whole load of the owners friends turn up each night, overdo the drink and spoil the night for the paying guests.
This is a truly budget hotel despite what the owner would have you think, Shanklin is a very quaint, pretty village and the Isle of Wight as a whole a lovely place to visit. But going on our experience and that of several of our fellow travellers we would recommend spending a bit more and using another hotel. There are some lovely ones on the cliffs overlooking the English channel.
All in all a very disappointing break,

Just called for drinks but was very shocked at the prices! Ordered a Medium sized glass of white wine and a medium glass of rose wine which were lukewarm and therefore we didn't enjoy, three cokes for the children and a pint of lager and it cost almost £22! Won't be going again!

We stayed for one night. What is good about this hotel is that is very close to all restaurants and bars, it has a nice beer garden at the back and the staff was quite friendly and helpful. The rooms are average but what was most disappointing was the shower, hardly any pressure and the water wasn't very hot either. Also no shower gel or shamppo was supplied. I had to make a phonecall and there was no service on my phone so I decided to use the phone in the room but there was no line. Breakfast was average. I don't think it was worth £75 per night.
