My husband and I stayed at this hotel for one night as we wanted to get away from work and have some peace.

When we arrived one half of the new managers was outside doing something with the bins! (they have only been there for three months). We had what I think was the best room with a balcony (£128) so we could sit and rest and look at the sea. A good touch was the binoculars but the TV didn't work at all and the shower kept going cold. We had a grat lunch in the lovely garden which had sea views, we had home made tea in the funny sitting area. However, on coming back from a stroll at 8pm the dining room was closed and we had to g out to get supper. Breakfast was ok but the service not awfully attentive.

The 'hotel' is on a quite walking path so nice to stroll but the peace and quite was spoilt by the noisy people who came back at 1 30am shouting and banging and no one seemed to tell them to be quite, also in this room you can hear what's is going on above you. For the huge price, you are paying for the sea view, without that it would not have been a good stay, we probably wouldn't go back. The new owners are going to do renovations over the winter and from what they told us I don't think we will like it. The place served its purpose for us and it was a good break and the owners are trying hard to make it nice, wifi very slow.

Room Tip: To get the view you have to have the balcony room.

We stayed at this lovely little place in April 2011 and had a great time. The people that run it are lovely, pleasant and helpful without being too imposing and over the top.
We paid a little bit more for a sea view room but it was worth it. It is right on the sea front. We had a huge bay window with a couple of chairs that we sat in and looked out all you could see was the beautiful sea from all angles. Lovely to wake up to in a morning!
Breakfast was very nice.
Room was fairly basic, but had a comfortable bed, tv and a nice little bathroom and as I said an amazing view! Everything you need!
Its right on the sea front and just a (quite steep) ramp and a few steps down to a perfectly pleasant beach.
Also at the end of the road just above the beach, literally about 5 mins from the hotel is Shanklin Chine, a lovely little wonder of nature well worth a visit. Also we came on the hovercraft to Ryde and got the little oldy worldy train which is very cute and cheap! Would recommend a ride on that at some point during your stay!!!
Overall no complaints! Would definitely stay here again!

Room Tip: Pay the little extra for a sea view!

We booked this hotel for our anniversary and the photographs on the website made it look very nice.

We pulled up outside the hotel and was looking forward to getting inside - the branding on the signage looked very contemporary and we were confident that we would get a nice hotel with a seaview as booked. Not so...

The reception was unmanned at 9.30pm at night and we had to ring the bell to be let in. The hotel (very loose term) inside was very dated and the decorations positively scruffy. We were shown to our room which was very small with dated fittings and to see the sea view the proprietor showed us a door which led onto the fire escape (with no lighting - very dangerous)!!! None of the "facilities" ie bar or bistro were open for the two nights we were there.

The cost for this B&B masquerading as a hotel was £98 per night!! All in all an absolute rip off and would advise anybody to steer clear of the place. The only consellation was that the weather was lovely whilst we were there so we only had to spend the minimum time in the place!!

We enjoyed a short stay at the Clifton Hotel. It was comfortable with friendly staff who always made us feel welcome. Nothing was too much trouble. Our bedroom was spotless and the food [ we had breakfast only] was extremely filling and enjoyable.
A superb position overlooking the coast and most of the rooms had sea view.
The hotel is extremely convenient for the beach, village of Shanklin and surrounding areas. On site car parking is very convenient with access day or night. Due to the hotel's location there is no noise and it is very peaceful. No disturbances whatsoever.
I would recommend this hotel as ideal.

Room Tip: Seaview rooms are mainly on the front. Excellant location

Firstly the new owners had only been here 10 weeks but are well versed at making you happy, nothing is too much trouble, David the owner welcomed us to our room, explained all the hotel times, gave us some pointers where to go and we were off. The room, a twin, was very clean and tidy, the beds comfortable and not a bit of noise perpetrated from either upstairs or the road. Shower was good, very hot but totally controllable and adjustable. The breakfast food was a good mix of fruit cereals and a darn good choice of cooked breakfast fare. For me unlimited pots of coffee from the superb Glennis was brilliant, and so was she.
We only had one evening meal in our hotel a set 3 courses for about £16 and each course had 3 - 4 different choices. There is a Bar on site which is well stocked and David is always prepared to rustle you up a snack at short notice if you come in late with the bar open.
One of the staff did mention that there were plans to replace all the mattresses with Memory foam, take note other hoteliers if this happens then David will get my custom year in year out, a good nights sleep is so important that it should never be underestimated by hotels.

Room Tip: There is so much to do on the island that any room here is perfect no need to opt for a seaview as y...

Stayed here towards the end of Cowes week. Excellent staff. Beautiful grounds & positioning with wonderful views of the sea and 5 minutes walk from the Shanklin beach. Was taken over 6 weeks prior to my stay, and new owners are planning on improving already pleasant surroundings. Great value for money and wonderful breakfast! Many thanks for a wonderful stay!
