“A lovely first visit”

We stayed here in very mixed weather - at one stage the owners had to cope with guttering torn off in high winds and causing a flood! - but the warmth of their welcome and the standard of service never varied. The rooms and bathrooms were clean and comfortable, the communal areas really welcoming and the views and walks unbeatable. We'd never been to Shanklin before, but after such a great stay we're looking forward to our next visit and would definitely book at the Clifton again.

Room Tip: The rooms at the back of the hotel are very quiet and comfortable, and you only have to go down the...

We planed our Easter week end in Isle of Wight. we had choice between several brochures and websites. We finally turned to this Hotel due to the Sea view, price, and proximity to the old village. The booking was very friendly, and we managed to get the desired room for the week end. We enjoyed the warm and welcoming atmosphere.
Good choice for the breakfast, beautiful view, cleaned and well-furnished rooms, relaxing garden, charming staff.

Room Tip: Require rooms with sea view.

After reading the previous guests reviews we just knew we had to stay at the Clifton. Easy to find and park, a friendly welcome. Perfect room excellent food and service. Beautiful views out to sea and round the coast. Excellent position for Shanklin Chine and the old village with so many 'chocolate box' buildings.
We only stayed one night in a 'family room' our 6 year old nephew loved the bunk beds, our room was well equiped, plenty of fluffy towels, tea, coffee, hot choc and nice biscuits all on offer. Many toiletry items available at reception free of charge.
Evening meal menu had plenty of choice and the breakfast filled us up untill early afternoon.
Well done The Clifton, we may return.

We had a balcony room as I had asked to be able to see the sea from my bed! I wasn't disappointed! Lovely, clean room with very nice bathroom. Breakfast was excellent and we loved the choice of buffet items along with the full English! One afternoon we had a cream tea delivered to our room and sat out on the balcony, fantastic uninterupted sea views! New owners took over in May I understand and have already made lots of improvements.
Made use of the hotel laptop to check in with our daughter - nice touch by the owners!
Good parking!

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for one night as we wanted to get away from work and have some peace.

When we arrived one half of the new managers was outside doing something with the bins! (they have only been there for three months). We had what I think was the best room with a balcony (£128) so we could sit and rest and look at the sea. A good touch was the binoculars but the TV didn't work at all and the shower kept going cold. We had a grat lunch in the lovely garden which had sea views, we had home made tea in the funny sitting area. However, on coming back from a stroll at 8pm the dining room was closed and we had to g out to get supper. Breakfast was ok but the service not awfully attentive.

The 'hotel' is on a quite walking path so nice to stroll but the peace and quite was spoilt by the noisy people who came back at 1 30am shouting and banging and no one seemed to tell them to be quite, also in this room you can hear what's is going on above you. For the huge price, you are paying for the sea view, without that it would not have been a good stay, we probably wouldn't go back. The new owners are going to do renovations over the winter and from what they told us I don't think we will like it. The place served its purpose for us and it was a good break and the owners are trying hard to make it nice, wifi very slow.

Room Tip: To get the view you have to have the balcony room.

We stayed at this lovely little place in April 2011 and had a great time. The people that run it are lovely, pleasant and helpful without being too imposing and over the top.
We paid a little bit more for a sea view room but it was worth it. It is right on the sea front. We had a huge bay window with a couple of chairs that we sat in and looked out all you could see was the beautiful sea from all angles. Lovely to wake up to in a morning!
Breakfast was very nice.
Room was fairly basic, but had a comfortable bed, tv and a nice little bathroom and as I said an amazing view! Everything you need!
Its right on the sea front and just a (quite steep) ramp and a few steps down to a perfectly pleasant beach.
Also at the end of the road just above the beach, literally about 5 mins from the hotel is Shanklin Chine, a lovely little wonder of nature well worth a visit. Also we came on the hovercraft to Ryde and got the little oldy worldy train which is very cute and cheap! Would recommend a ride on that at some point during your stay!!!
Overall no complaints! Would definitely stay here again!

Room Tip: Pay the little extra for a sea view!
