My wife & I stay for 5 nights in one the premeir rooms with a balcony and a seaview. Good size room with double doors opening on to the balcony which had 2 wicker chairs & table. Ensuite was small but not cramped. Plenty of hot water for a shower or bath. Bed linen & towels were changed daily.
Breakfast was cereals, fruit & juices along with fresh made tea or coffee & several choices for fresh cooked dishes. If you wanted to change from the set menu it was no problem. We also had a couple of evening meals and found them to be fresh and well cooked.
The small bar is fairly well stocked and it very relaxing to sit in either the garden or the deck watching the sun set.
The owner & staff are were helpfull & friendly. If I again visit The Isle I would stay here.

Room Tip: Book direct with hotel. pay the extra and get an seaview room.

We had a lovely 3 night stay at The Clifton at the start of September. It’s a Victorian hotel, but unlike many it’s not showing its age having been cleaned and nicely decorated in the last 18 months by its new owners. The dining room is a particularly attractive space with a lovely view over the sea through a semi circular bay window. We ate there on two evenings and on both had enjoyable good value meals from an imaginative specials menu. Breakfast was also very good with a number of freshly cooked options and lots of different fresh fruits, cereals, and pastries. The hotel is in a very quiet position, convenient for the beach or old town, but free from any traffic noise. Our room was functional, probably the hotel’s least attractive, but it was perfectly well appointed with a very comfortable bed, and we weren’t expecting anything more as it was the last available on a special deal. The staff were helpful, friendly and competent. There were a couple of longish delays between courses being served, but these were recognised and apologised for, and a price worth paying for freshly and well prepared food. There’s a pleasant garden and decking for sitting outside, and a cosy bar with a laptop available for the use of guests. If you want a hotel with a lot of public space and facilities this is not likely to be the choice for you, but for a comfortable, well positioned hotel that offers good value and the personal touch, and does all the basics very well indeed, we would strongly recommend it. If you want to stay there, from our experience book through the hotel’s website or by phoning to get the best deal.

Thank you indeed for taking the time to write such a comprehensive review, we are really pleased that you found The Clifton such an enjoyable and relaxing place to spend a few days off. You are of course quite correct that the best deals are available on our own website, as are our sea view rooms which cannot be booked through any agencies - hope we are able to welcome you back to The Clifton in the future.

My husband and I returned to the Clifton and had yet another really good stay. Excellent standards of cleanliness. Rooms are well equipped. Very comfortable beds. Lots of choice at breakfast time and food cooked beautifully. The owners have carried out a number of improvements that all work well and are sympathetic to the character of the building. We particularly like the decked area for early eve drinks with its automated canopy and the lovely views across the bay. Excellent service at all times.

An attractive looking building in a row of hotels/guest houses on the cliff top. We had booked using a kgb voucher and paid a supplement for a balcony & sea view.
The food was good and resaonable priced.
My only gripe is that when we said that the white wine wasn't cold enough (and it really wasn't), we were told by the owner that it was. As I drink my fair share of wine, this rubbed me up the wrong way a bit!
The rest of the staff were all very friendly.

Room Tip: It was lovely sitting on the balcony with a book and a glass of wine

Thank you for your review, it is always pleasing to hear that guests enjoy our Bistro food which we always endeavor to keep at reasonable prices. I apologise if you felt that I was criticising your personal view on the temperature of wine, I was merely pointing out that the wine is kept in a wine fridge at the standard temperature of 3 degrees.
