“lovely place to unwind”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 May 2013

We have just returned from a 3 night stay at the Clifton Hotel and want to say a big thank you to David, Carys and the rest of the staff for making our stay most enjoyable. We had a standard room which was very clean and welcoming, with everything you could wish for. We booked on a half board basis and were very happy with the breakfast choice and the evening meals offered. The staff were attentive and friendly and tried their best to please. We would definitely return and next time book a sea view room. We only booked at the last minute so took the last room available. David kindly sorted out booking the car ferry for us at very short notice - very impressed! Have stayed in other hotels in the area and this is by far the best. You will not be disappointed!

What a great review, thank you.
David & Cary have certainly turned this place around since taking it over last year and have really gone out of their way to ensure our guests have the best possible stay and be able to relax, revitalise and enjoy the delicious food on offer, as do the rest of team who go that extra mile. I will certainly pass on your lovely comments.
We hope to welcome you to The Clifton again and don't forget your 10% discount.

Booked for 2 nights as going to Shanklin Theatre on Saturday evening. The staff were very polite and efficient and nothing was too much trouble. The room was clean and comfortable and the food and service excellent.
Would not hesitate to recommend to others a delightful hotel with superb sea views.
Would definitely stay again.

Had a great weekend at the Clifton Hotel, 6 of us were travelling together we booked the standard rooms which were fine for the base we wanted. All very clean, staff extremely friendly and accommodating, nothing was too much trouble. Great breakfast and food as mentioned in many of the reviews. Would def go again and recommend to others. location on the cliffs onlooking the beach was fantastic.

The local town of Shanklin was only a few minutes walk away, great little pubs and shops. It was one of the nicest towns on the island to be honest.... We went to Fine Nemmet for dinner one night, ( in the toen centre) very new but the food was absolutely fantastic, you can tell the chef was originally form the Dorchester Hotel, only down side was that we had to vacate the table early for 2nd sitting and we did have time to finish really... One thing to check if your booking, but it is really worth it for the food.

All in all a great weekend.

Room Tip: Standard room is fine for a base, if you want the whole experience upgrade to get a view it's we...

As my birthday was coming up and we had noticed a great offer on the Clifton news letter (we had stayed several times before). We decided to book for the 4 days.
The offer included an upgrade to the new suite which fortunately was available . What a treat to stay in , with its new furniture, including a lovely imported American tapestry , large bed, fridge and balcony with lovely sea view. We were very lucky and had sun every day. Sitting on the balcony with a cool drink was very therapeutic.
The breakfasts were excellent, as was the evening meal . All the staff were very pleasant and helpful. We will certainly stay again before too long.

We had a lovely stay at The Clifton. It was our first time on the Isle of Wight and we could not have chosen a better place to stay, The Clifton is well situated, overlooking the sea front and within easy walking distance to the "Old Village" which is lovely. David and his staff were very accommodating and informative about the area. The Hotel is also well positioned on the edge of the Coastal Path which lends itself to a choice of walks along the coast. We will definitely be back!

We thoroughly enjoyed our three nights at the Clifton. Friendly staff - Graham was very helpful, especially in offering to carry our heavy luggage up to our room on the top floor. The breakfasts were outstanding, as was the one deliciously fishy dinner we had there. Our room had a bay window with sweeping views over the Channel - worth the extra cost, though at £100 a night, it wasn't cheap for a guest house.

We had a most enjoyable stay, with the main object of having a base to visit Osborne House. The hotel was a good choice, enhanced by the warmth of the welcome and the overall helpfulness of the staff. The location is first-class, benfiting from its cliff-top location close to Shanklin Chine and Old Village. Our room was well-appointed, clean, warm and comfortable, and the food and service of a high standard. Their great virtue is a willingness to be flexible with the meal arrangements (bistro style) which is very helpful for those with variable needs.
