“short stay on iow”
Reviewed 4 July 2013

Booked this hotel for a short break in the IOW. Lovely hotel - would recommend this one.Included in the price was breakfast which was excellent . Many choices on the menu and the was cooked orders were freshly cooked for each guest. Excellent location for Old Shanklin and the Esplanade. Our rooms were a little on the small side but quite adequate and were clean and the beds were comfortable.
The staff were also friendly and very helpful. I would go back to this hotel if we were visiting the IOW again.

We would love to welcome you back next time your on the Island, thank you for the great review.
Although there may be a short wait sometimes for breakfast it's certainly worth it as you know it is cooked to order and Carys ensures there is always plenty of choice to set you up for the day!.
I will pass on your comments to the rest of the team. Sara

Fantastic hotel in shanklin-the best place to stay in isle of wight. Great value for money, tasty breakfast, clean rooms and lovely staff. The rooms are not huge but adequate, location was great. Short walk away from village but seconds away from a couple of lovely pubs

We stayed four nights in room 18 - a bit tiny but adequate for a short stay - and found the hotel brilliant. The location is ideal with a lovely sea view from the very pleasant garden and just a short stroll both to the beach and the town. The breakfasts and evening meals were delicious and there were always drinks and snacks available during the day. But best of all was the first class service provided by the staff, who went out of their way to help in any way they could. If we go to the Island again we will definitely stay at The Clifton. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Room 18 has a small balcony!

Thank you for the brill review!. It is great to hear the team made an impact on your stay with us. Room 18 is a standard double which is smaller than the superior and bay view rooms but we hope the location made up for it!.

Two nights at the Clifton was an absolute treat and the weather couldn't have been better. Very friendly staff, excellent breakfast and we had dinner the first night which was good. We stayed here over 10 years ago, the present owners having been here two and the whole experience was so much better. Would definitely stay again as we love the Isle of Wight and Shanklin is one of our favourite spots.

Breakfasts were too much, dinners were too good, staff were too friendly. Go, and see if you can find anything to complain about.
Although the Hotel, I think, was full, my wife and I were treated as though we were the only customers. Well done to Dave, Cerys and the Clifton crew.
4 days in room 18.

We received a very warm welcome, we took our elderly parents with us and although there was no lift, the owners ensured they had a first floor family room at no extra cost. The meals we had were excellent especially the breakfast, good value for money. The owns made us very welcome, we would strongly recommend The Clifton for couples, and anyone wanting a quite stay.

Room Tip: The front of the hotel has the sea views

A lovely, quiet hotel right on the cliff path at Shanklin, with incredible views over the English Channel. Very friendly staff and nice breakfast, with choices of cereals, pastries and cooked to order. Room was spotless, bed comfortable, bathroom with shower more than adequate. Within a few minutes walk of Shanklin Old Village and Shanklin Chine. The beach is also just five minutes walk away, but you then have to walk back up and the way is VERY steep! The hotel is probably most suited to more mature guests, but would also be perfect for anyone wanting to use it as a base to tour round the island.

Thank you for your excellent review, we do have a prime location with most things a short walk away and the choice at breakfast is sure to set you up for he day. Mandy has to walk up that hill every day so its good to hear she's not too tired when it comes to cleaning the rooms!.
