“Lovely stay on island”
Reviewed 18 September 2013

My husband and myself stayed four days here last week lovely room with sea views and balcony
Spotless very large comfy bed. FOod at breakfast and dinner very good large portions were sometimes a bit much for me Staff very helpful especially waitress. Husband and wife team run this hotel.
She is kitchen he is front of house just feel he could be more interactive with guests. But overall in the two years they have owned the hotel they have upgraded bit by bit

Room Tip: Try and get a sea view room hotel nice and quiet at back

Thank you for taking the time to write your review, I never tire of reading good reports! Glad you like all the upgrades we have put in over the last two years - this winter we are replacing our old boilers and upgrading the hot water supply to the whole of The Clifton. Hope we see you again next year - I'll try and talk even more! Kind Regards. David

Great location, lovely hotel with fantastic sea views. Staff accommodating, especially Graham who was very friendly and nothing was too much trouble for him. Had a lovely honeymoon there, but not a hotel for young children. Would visit again.

This hotel is traditionally English in a very English setting. Our host was so welcoming and our room, facing the sea was lovely with a little balcony, extremely large and supremely comfortable bed and good sitting/TV area. No lift here, but the owner carried out cases up and we enjoyed a cup of tea and a piece of home-made cake! Outside is a pretty garden with plenty of benches, seats and a gate opening onto a pedestrian path along the cliff top. Breakfast was good and varied and we ate dinner here twice - you can't beat the quality of the food, delicious and interesting. We tried eating at "The Crab" in Shanklin Old Town once but it was very disappointing - chain of pubs style and crab was not even on the menu. There are lots of places to see in the Isle of Wight and we visited most of them. Great hotel with excellent chef!

Room Tip: Rooms on the front have fantastic views of the English Channel and the ships sailing back and forth...

Have just returned from short break, made very welcome, nothing too much trouble. Beautiful location, quiet, but close to all amenities. Stunning views across the bay. Lovely food. Will return, but would go for small double rather than single room.
Thanks to all the staff.

After staying a total of six nights at the Cliftom hotel we were delighted with all aspects of the service and facilities.
The Location of the hotel is perfect out of the hustle bustle but only a short walk away from the beach/ old Shanklin Village and the main Shanklin High Street.
The staff were all friendly but not over the top.
The food at breakfast was great and the Bistro food was very Excellent, so much so that we dined in the Hotel two evenings which is unusual for us.
We would Highly recommend this hotel I have tried to think of some constructive critism but have been unable to
Try it you will not be disappointed

Have just returned from 10 glorious days at The Clifton. Friendly, helpful staff. Comfortable room with gorgeous views enhanced by provision of binoculars. Delicious breakfast with plenty of choice served outside on sunny mornings! Lovely comfortable beds with good quality bed linen. Nothing too much trouble. Thank you for making our first trip to Isle of Wight such a happy one! Will definitely be back. Great hotel in first class location - so very peaceful yet near bustling beach and ample shops, pubs and restaurants.

5 minutes from Shanklin Old Village, right at the cliff top, this hotel is in an excellent location. The staff were very friendly and helpful, especially David. My wife and I stayed for 3 night and would have stayed longer. The cooked breakfasts were delicious and the dining room has lovely views out into the English Channel. We would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: We had a superior double room - the bed was MASSIVE.
