Stayed here recently in the ( expensive ) premier suite which had a rather small bedroom and a tiny bathroom which could do with some updating. Nevertheless, the location is striking overlooking the garden and benefiting from sweeping sea views. David is an attentive and professional front of house host and Carys is an excellent chef - a winning combination. Lovely cooked breakfasts and decent range of evening meals beautifully cooked and well presented. All our requests were dealt with in a friendly and professional manner. A very relaxing place to stay.

Greetings. Wonderful to hear that you found our location both striking and relaxing, and our food enjoyable - all descriptions we strive to achieve. The bathroom does indeed need updating, to keep it in line with the rest of the refurbishments we have been undertaking since we took over The Clifton. It is scheduled for this coming winter break. Hopefully we will be able to show it off to you if you return next year. Best Regards. David.

This is the second year that we have stayed at the Clifton and we can thoroughly recommend this establishment for its cleanliness, breakfasts and evening meals (in the Bistro). We had Room 5 - with balcony - this year and the sea views are magificent. There was even a pair of binoculars on hand - a nice touch! David, Carys and the staff were very friendly and helpful and the king-size bed was wonderfully comfortable.

Thanks for another great holiday. We have already provisionally booked for 2015.

Sue and Russell.

Hello Russell and Sue. Brilliant that you enjoyed your fortnight with us this year even more than last - having a balcony overlooking the sea does make it a bit more special. Hopefully we can improve even more and make next years stay even better! Best Regards. David.

Had a lovely break here, a treat for my better half's birthday. Stayed in the premier suite which isn't cheap but well worth the money. Beautiful room with a double balcony and fabulous views out to sea. Lots of nice touches, even a telescope for surveying the abundance of ships in the area or the sky on a clear night. Lovely cold choices at breakfast as well as some fabulous cooked ones too. Very friendly staff throughout, who along with the owners made our stay totally enjoyable. We didn't try an evening meal in the Bistro but there was a good choice for that too. All this in a fabulous location, just a short walk to the beach or Shanklin old village. Will certainly visit again.

We got a wowcher deal of 2 nights B&B for £99.00 amazing value. The hotel is good with a great location for the chine & old/new Shanklin. The only criticism is there was no tea/coffee making facilities in the room. Saw other rooms had so must have being removed due to deal, personally think you would be better off omitting breakfast as can't imagine you would save yourselves very much.
Did a beautiful walk from Shanklin to Ventnor, challenging in places but well worth it, 1hr 45m. Had a couple of well earned pints in the Ship in on the sea front. Nice friendly pub, does food also. You can get a bus back but we got a taxi, £10.00. Had never being to the IOW & now can't wait to go back.

Hello Vixenett. We are very pleased you enjoyed your stay with us, we are indeed in a great location here in Shanklin. Shame about the tea tray - As we explain to guests on arrival and in the Information folder found in all the bedrooms, because only about half our guests actually used the trays when they were in all rooms, we decided to provide hospitality trays on request - we prefer to ensure that everything on the tray is fresh and hasn't been lying around unused. We will be only too happy to provide you with one if you stay with us in the future - wowcher or not! Best Regards. David.

The weather didn't matter!

Room Tip: Pay the supplement for a sea view!

Just back from a three night stay at the Clifton. Lovely hotel in a beautiful setting. Thoroughly recommended. The dining room has lovely views of the gardens and coast. Breakfasts very good. We ate one night in the bistro and had a very good meal and bottle of wine. The owner David was very friendly and helpful as we're all the staff

Room Tip: The premier rooms with sea view and balcony are worth the extra

We had walked around and really enjoyed Shanklin then went up in the lift to the promenade. We saw a sign here for crap and stopped for afternoon tea. They were a bit surprised when we had crap and toast as a starter followed by cream tea....but we were on holiday. Wonderful location, the most friendly people and the food including scones warm and home made 3*, what a great couple, it took them both to carry our large lunch.....I would, if I go back to the IOW stay here without a doubt, thank you for being so friendly and kind and for keeping such a charming place.

Hello Ladies. So glad you enjoyed your Potted Crab and Cream Teas, isn't it wonderful sitting out in the garden in the sunshine enjoying lunch with the whole of Sandown Bay to gaze at? Hope we see you again when you return to our lovely corner of the Island. David.
