“Surprise 50th Wedding Anniversary for parents”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 June 2014

We organised a surprise getaway for my Mum & Dad to revisit the hotel they stayed at 50 years ago on their honeymoon - The Clifton, Shanklin.

We would like to thank David and his team for making our parents feel so welcome and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. The room with its sea view was lovely, the facilities spotless and the meals delicious.

Mum and Dad were overwhelmed by their 50th Anniversary getaway and the ferry, flowers, bubbly and cards were the icing on the cake, all organised by the hotel.

We will definitely recommend the Clifton to family and friends.

Hi Lesley. So glad your parents enjoyed their special break back here where they honeymooned, they seemed to enjoy the 'new' Clifton immensely. We hope to be able to welcome yourself to The Clifton in the future. Best Regards. David.

Spent a short break here in June and found the hotel excellent. We booked a cosy room as we were only staying a couple of nights and found it had all that we needed. The room was spotlessly clean as was the on suite shower room. Everything was obviously new or recently decorated; the bed was very comfy too and the room had all that one might need. The views from the front of the hotel where the garden, seating deck and dining room look out over the sea was excellent. The hosts and the rest of the staff at the hotel made us very welcome and worked hard to make our stay a very pleasant one. Breakfast was from a big choice and was simply lovely. We also ate dinner one night and the food was very good with a good choice on the main and specials menus - did not get to desert as the starters and main meals were both plentiful and very tasty. Overall a lovely and relaxing place to stay and we will hopefully be back when we have our next short break on the Island.

Fantastic location on the top of the cliff. presentation and cleanliness was spot on. All the staff were very nice and helpfull. Could not fault the breakfast and the evening meals were well cooked and interesting. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Stayed in room 8 and it was clean and a reasonable size but we were always out so room size did not...

Stayed here recently in the ( expensive ) premier suite which had a rather small bedroom and a tiny bathroom which could do with some updating. Nevertheless, the location is striking overlooking the garden and benefiting from sweeping sea views. David is an attentive and professional front of house host and Carys is an excellent chef - a winning combination. Lovely cooked breakfasts and decent range of evening meals beautifully cooked and well presented. All our requests were dealt with in a friendly and professional manner. A very relaxing place to stay.

Greetings. Wonderful to hear that you found our location both striking and relaxing, and our food enjoyable - all descriptions we strive to achieve. The bathroom does indeed need updating, to keep it in line with the rest of the refurbishments we have been undertaking since we took over The Clifton. It is scheduled for this coming winter break. Hopefully we will be able to show it off to you if you return next year. Best Regards. David.

This is the second year that we have stayed at the Clifton and we can thoroughly recommend this establishment for its cleanliness, breakfasts and evening meals (in the Bistro). We had Room 5 - with balcony - this year and the sea views are magificent. There was even a pair of binoculars on hand - a nice touch! David, Carys and the staff were very friendly and helpful and the king-size bed was wonderfully comfortable.

Thanks for another great holiday. We have already provisionally booked for 2015.

Sue and Russell.

Hello Russell and Sue. Brilliant that you enjoyed your fortnight with us this year even more than last - having a balcony overlooking the sea does make it a bit more special. Hopefully we can improve even more and make next years stay even better! Best Regards. David.

Had a lovely break here, a treat for my better half's birthday. Stayed in the premier suite which isn't cheap but well worth the money. Beautiful room with a double balcony and fabulous views out to sea. Lots of nice touches, even a telescope for surveying the abundance of ships in the area or the sky on a clear night. Lovely cold choices at breakfast as well as some fabulous cooked ones too. Very friendly staff throughout, who along with the owners made our stay totally enjoyable. We didn't try an evening meal in the Bistro but there was a good choice for that too. All this in a fabulous location, just a short walk to the beach or Shanklin old village. Will certainly visit again.

We got a wowcher deal of 2 nights B&B for £99.00 amazing value. The hotel is good with a great location for the chine & old/new Shanklin. The only criticism is there was no tea/coffee making facilities in the room. Saw other rooms had so must have being removed due to deal, personally think you would be better off omitting breakfast as can't imagine you would save yourselves very much.
Did a beautiful walk from Shanklin to Ventnor, challenging in places but well worth it, 1hr 45m. Had a couple of well earned pints in the Ship in on the sea front. Nice friendly pub, does food also. You can get a bus back but we got a taxi, £10.00. Had never being to the IOW & now can't wait to go back.

Hello Vixenett. We are very pleased you enjoyed your stay with us, we are indeed in a great location here in Shanklin. Shame about the tea tray - As we explain to guests on arrival and in the Information folder found in all the bedrooms, because only about half our guests actually used the trays when they were in all rooms, we decided to provide hospitality trays on request - we prefer to ensure that everything on the tray is fresh and hasn't been lying around unused. We will be only too happy to provide you with one if you stay with us in the future - wowcher or not! Best Regards. David.
