Hello Bev, lovely to hear that you will be returning soon for another dose of The Clifton magic. We seem to be accumulating quite a few returning guests, which reassures us that we seem to be getting a lot right - but we are still intent on improving even more. Best regards until next time. David.

My wife and I recently stayed at the 'Clifton Shanklin' in the ''Balcony Bay View Room' on a 'Half Board' basis between 08/08/2014 - 15/08/2014.
We could not fault the Hotel in any way whatsoever !! The Seafront location is second to none & near to both the Beach & Shanklin Old Town, with its numerous Pubs & Restaurants.
The Reception Staff, Waitresses & Hotelier were all so very friendly & welcoming and could not do enough for us !!
The food is to die for with lots of 'Local Produce' on offer, Evening Meal had the options of both a 'Set Menu' with 'Daily Specials' on offer too.
We also recommend you stay 'Half Board' to enjoy the lovely food !!
Without doubt we will be returning again & again to this fantastic Hotel & we suggest that you give it a try, you'll not be disappointed !!

We were very disappointed with the hotel. The man, I think he was called David did SO not want to be there, I am guessing he might be the owner? He was very reserved and at times abrupt, not great attributes for a hotelier! Perhaps he was just tired?
I found the carpet in our room was not hoovered and the last occupants had generously left their toenails for us on the carpet!! Luckily a lovely girl on reception was mortified and came and sorted it but not a whiff of apology from the owner. Oh I don't know, perhaps I am expecting too much but the price was about £130 a night and I don't consider that cheap. The most infuriating aspect was the Wifi. It was hilarious really as it allowed you to log on with 0.01 something or other of data and that got used after 1 view of Facebook. Then they wanted you to pay!! I mean really? We had to walk down to the Esplanade to use all the pubs/hotels wifi to synch things. This is 2014 not 1984. Breakfast was OK but if it hadn't been I would have been too scared to address it as it had that type of vibe. Good luck if you are booked in!

Greetings. Such a shame that your view of The Clifton seems to have been clouded by a small mistake by one of our housekeepers - quickly rectified by Olivia who then assured me that all was now well. I can only suggest that readers of this review switch to the positive reviews from all our other guests. With regards to the Wi-Fi, we do not have unlimited broadband width, if (as we recommend in our information folder) any device is logged off after use then the free data is plenty for normal e-mail and browsing usage. Regards. David.

Booked the Clifton about three days before we went. My darling wife found it on late rooms, but I phoned them direct and got a better rate and cheaper ferry travel. It is much nicer to speak to a human rather than click and buy.

Beautifully straightforward email confirmation and ferry ticket delivery. Arrived at the hotel and had a very smooth check in. we were staying in one of the snug rooms, Room 3, but it was a lot larger than I had envisaged and was perfect. Very well presented with quality teas and biscuits provided.

Had dinner at the hotel on the first night which I had pre-booked prior to arrival. The food was excellent and the dining is a bistro open to all. Topped of with a very nice wine. On top of that the restaurant in in the conservatory overlooking the garden and the sea. Corking view. Ate there on another two nights. After a good nights sleep it was time for breakfast. Joy of joys table service full English and what a breakfast it was. Black pudding optional. There are numerous other options on the menu apart from the full English. And of course the view is just as good for breakfast.

The shower in the en-suite was very good and the room and the hotel in general is very well maintained. As others have mentioned the location is great up for old Shanklin town and down for beach.

Wifi is paid for after 1gig, but as we are on BT at home we could hotspot easliy, Though don't expect networks on the isle of wight to be the same as at home.

We had a lovely time at the Clifton and were made to feel very welcome and at home. It has been a game changer for me and made me question the wisdom of airports transfers and foreign holidays when I can be here in 3 hours. If it's sunny here why go abroad?

Thank you Paul for such a fabulous and thorough review. Glad you had a wonderful time on our Island, and we certainly concur with your reasoning in holidaying in the UK. Hopefully in the near future the Island will have a broadband network to match the mainland - well we can but hope! Best Regards. David.

The Clifton Hotel is in a wonderful setting, looking out over the sea. A short walk provides the beach in one direction and Shanklin old town in the other. The hotel itself was comfortable clean and the rooms were stocked with tea coffee and biscuits on a daily bases. Staff were very friendly and helpful and when asked were keen to answer queries and give advice of local information. The breakfast was excellent and catered for every taste. From this location all of the IOW attractions are within easy reach by car. We would definitely stay again and recommend this hotel to our friends.

It took me a while to find a hotel that didn't look like it was going to be full of older more retired folks. I came across the Clifton and the reviews and photos looked great. We stopped for a weekend in July and it was brilliant. The hotel was clean, the food was excellent and eating your breakfast looking out on the bay was amazing. The owner was very helpful and friendly. We had a cosy double but there was plenty of room, if we had been stopping longer we probably would have gone for a sea view just because it was right on the cliff, what more could you ask for when the weather was good. I would definitely recommend this hotel without hesitation.

Greetings - and thank you for a fabulous review. We do worry a little about our cosy doubles, but as you intimate they are fine for a short break when you have the incredible views from our public areas to make the most of. Please give us a call when you are planning to return in order to ensure a bedroom with a sea view. Kind Regards. David.

Good food, good service, lovely room, friendly staff, pretty garden and great views ... you could not ask for more. The weather was very hot during our stay so we were glad to have a room with a balcony and the electric fan provided was a lovely touch so typical of this hotel. Breakfast and dinner were good with plenty of choice and we had some very nice wines at sensible prices. The owners and all the staff were very friendly and helpful - nothing was an effort or too much trouble and I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Room with balcony worth the extra cost.

Hello Wendy. How wonderful that you found everything here to your liking, our staff here do all work hard to create a 'home from home' for our guests so I love it when I can show them a review which inspires them even more. Thank You. David.
