“EXCELLENT HOTEL”
Reviewed 28 June 2009

We have stayed at the Ferncliff every year for the last 3 years and have found the hotel
to be clean comfortable and very good value for money we would not stay anywhere
else on the Isle of Wight. The Ferncliff is a family run hotel and nothing is too much
trouble for the owner they put themselves out for their guests and provide an excellent
service.

The hotel is decorated to a very high standard and the bedrooms are brightly decorated
with ensuites to match in fact the whole hotel is decorated beautifully.

A work colleague had been for a weekend and recommended the hotel to us. It was definitely a good find. A small family run hotel. The owner was bubbly and full of fun. Rooms were clean and very well furnished - the beds, bedding and towels were all excellent. Although our room did not have ensuite facilities the bathroom was just next door with more lovely white towels and spotless. The room we had was a seafront room with a lovely big veranda. Breakfast was cooked to order and well presented with plenty of juice and a good selection of cereals and lots of toast and chat from the cook. We only stayed three nights but will be back again. Well done to everyone.

  • Liked — lovely friendly atmosphere
  • Disliked — no ensuite facilities in our room

The owner of the hotel is pocket dynamo - full of character and very kind. My aunt and I stayed there for a week and had a fabulous time. Rooms where immaculate - clean and bright - one with very modern ensuite at the back and one with shared bathroom at the front which had a huge balcony over looking the esplanade and the sea. Fridge in room plus coffee and tea making facilities. Beautiful white linen bedding - very comfortable double beds. Regular bus service outside for local trips and island tours.
Very good value for money
Good places to eat on the seafront inparticular The Fishermans -right on the beach at the end of the Esplanade - best lamb shanks and mash i have ever had at resaonable prices

Rooms clean and bright with excellent views.Photos of rooms on website did not do them justice. Staff welcoming and very helpful with lots of local information. The first hotel to ever give the choice of room to stay in on arrival. Great location on esplanade with easy access to town centre. Overall value for money was brilliant, great facilities, helpful and friendly atmosphere with home cooked breakfast included in the price.

  • Liked — Location, balcony to sit and look at great sea views.

We have stayed at the Ferncliff hotel a couple of times a year for the last 3 years and are looking forward to going again this year. The B&B is exactly what it says - it provides Bed and Breakfast in a friendly atmosphere in a fantastic location. Each of the times we have stayed there the rooms have been bright, airy, comfortable and sparkling. Two of the rooms have a beautiful veranda overlooking the beach & sea and we have sat outside and drank wine watching the sun go down in the evenings. The B&B is family friendly and the owner knows loads about the island itself so we got plently of advice of where to go and how to get there. We enjoyed are stay so much we ended up getting married on the island last year!
We have highly recommended Ferncliff B&B to all our friends and family.

I find the previous review mystifying. We've stayed at the Ferncliff Hotel twice in the last 3 years and found it clean and bright, with excellent service. The breakfast was anything but meagre! Cold cereals, fruit, coffee tea and juice are all on offer while the owner cooks the breakfast you've ordered from scratch. I know this because the kitchen is next door to the breakfast room and we could see her preparing it. The rooms we stayed in were lovely, and had big comfortable beds with immaculate linen. I didn't see any insects at all, let alone spiders, and I'm scared of spiders, so I'm always on the alert for sightings. Friendly warm service but not at all intrusive. Transport and parking on the Isle of Wight can be expensive. But the owner made a point of telling us about the MUCH cheaper options that are available, and which weren't mentioned in the Island Flyer we'd picked up. It was important to her that we all enjoyed our stay on the island. As a family we saved a lot of money. We really enjoyed our stay at the Ferncliff and have recommended it to friends and family. We've never had any negative feedback. Excellent value for money!

The images from the website looked great but the rooms are not as comfortable as we thought it would be. With the price they charge, I think we could have gotten a better accommodation somewhere else. A few things that really got us off was the fact that there were spider webs and bugs in corners of the room!! Imagine that! We felt as if the place has been left empty for a long time. The beds are not comfortable and the sheets doesn't feel clean either. There wasn't a chair by the dressing table, so we all had to bend our knees whenever we needed the mirror. They do not provide towels too.
The breakfast wasn't of a generous portion, and there aren't exactly any choices anyway. Fortunately we were there for only a night. It is definitely not worth the money.
