We had a lovely break at The Shanklin Hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful, our room was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The food was of a high standard and the waitress was very helpful. A special mention to the receptionist Emma, a very friendly and pleasant lady whom we had a lovely conversation with. Overall a lovely stay here, we will definitely return again and highly recommend this hotel to friends.

We always return to the Shanklin Hotel. The staff are all friendly (however on our arrival this time, a receptionist on duty was not too happy!) But, ignoring this minor point, everything was spot on, from the room, to the breakfast, the dinner - no complaints at all!
We try and visit twice a year and have no reason to go anywhere else!

The room was good as it seemed to have been recently refurbished, even though it could be noisy with people going through all the fire doors in the corridors and some who needed their televisions on very loudly.
Although the food was generally good (apart from it being smothered in gravy or sauce) the service at dinner time was far too quick and our four courses were completed and cleared away in around 30 minutes which didn't give you time to enjoy the food. If you were there towards the end of the service, the waiting staff were looking at their watches, the lights were dimmed which implied they wanted to get rid of you. .
On the other hand the bar staff were not very fast. On the first night we took our drinks into the restaurant which is probably the best idea On night 2 the wine waited appeared just as we sat down and having asked for a couple more minutes to make a choice, we never saw him again. The third night we asked the waitress to send him along so we could order wine, but no-one came so again they lost out on bar sales..
All in all, the hotel has tremendous potential and is ideally situated, but it just needs bar/waiting staff who can understand the customers' needs. At least Josh kept us amused!

Room Tip: The top floor may well be quieter.

We also went with a coach party ( our first ) and were pleasantly surprised with our room and the quality of the food also the staff were friendly and efficient. Although the hotel is high up we used the cliff lift to the beach and then it it is a level walk to Sandown with plenty of seats to rest on the way. We would definitely use this hotel again.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view room large & sunny also quiet.

the hotel was somewhat dated the rooms were modern but the hotel itself needs a bit of updating. The staff were excellent and friendly. Overall the price of the hotel was decent as the location was perfect for the beach and the village.

Went here with a coach party for a week. Our room was on the lower ground floor, was very roomy but in need of redecoration. Although the window was very large there were only 2 small opening lights (presumably because we were at road level) making the room very stuffy; luckily the weather wasn't too hot for comfort. There was provision for making hot drinks and 2 packs of biscuits which we never ate - other travellers complained that these were not replenished once eaten. The bathroom was clean and but there was no rail for hand towels and only one small rail over the bath for bath towels. The shower head had been fitted to suit a midget & could not be adjusted any higher - I'm 5' 6" and had a very uncomfortable time trying to wash my hair under it! All the staff were all very friendly; some restaurant staff were east european and, although they were extemely pleasant and tried to be helpful, there English really wasn't too good - asking for a side salad with my omelette at dinner met with complete incomprehension and I only got toast that had not been cut into triangles with a lot of difficulty. The food was a surprise - it was all beautifully cooked, the variety of main courses was well thought out and it all arrived very speedily. The vegetables (prepared very nicely) sometimes didn't quite suit the main course selection but the inventiveness with potatoes had to be admired. The public rooms were very dated but with nice touches here and there. They were not kept as clean as the bedrooms. The tables in the bar often had rings on left by previous drinkers; we put a bottle of red wine on the dining room window sill one night to make more space on the table and the ring left there was still untouched 4 days later. Haven't investigated how much the hotel would cost as an independent traveller but our package holiday was very reasonably priced.

Room Tip: People on our trip had paid an extra £140 for a sea view for a week, their room was half the size of...

Had a lovely room with a great view. Room was cleaned daily. All the staff were very friendly, whatever we needed they supplied for us, Josh waited on us and has great character, they are all very busy at breakfast and dinner , and coped very well, i have never been served so quickly, and the food is spot on!
We met some lovely people who were on coach parties and had some good laughs with them .The decor was very 80`s, but that is what i love about the Isle of Wight! Had a great time away from our fast lifestyle..Thanks for making our stay so enjoyable, we will certainly return :)
