Reviewed 31 January 2014

Our 2nd visit to the Shanklin Hotel was two years ago, and was as good as we remembered it from the first time. The food was excellent, as was the service, not one thing I could criticise.
Nice pool/Jacuzzi Bath, and Sauna, which was made full use of.
I understand some, if not all of the Hotel has had refurbishment, so look forward to another visit hopefully in April (2014).
2/3 minutes walk from the cliff top Lift (elevator) this operates on a seasonal basis....unless things have changed from our last visit two years ago (doubt it) it will take you down to the promenade and all that is on offer there. Also just a few minutes walk from the High St.
Never had any problem parking in the Hotel grounds, but if it were in the height of the season "maybe" there could be problems.
As ever with the Isle of Wight, you are never far from a totally different Town/Village. Get fed up with one place or just want a change of scenery, then hop in your car or onto a Bus and sometimes Within minutes you are somewhere totally different. Attractions, of which there are many, from Carisbrooke Castle/Osbourne House (Queen Victorias getaway) Wildlife Park/Blackgang Chine, very good for the Kids, and a host of other things to see and do.....Some "Seasonal", check before visiting.
If you have never been to the Isle of Wight before, then this Island is a must see place, excellent for Kids as well, plenty to keep them entertained, all day everyday throughout the Island.
This Hotel like many others on the Island offers "Free" Car Ferry included on the price of your stay, usually on their "Special Offers", always check before booking.

Room Tip: We had a room that was in the block over the Pool, therefore away from the main area. However this i...

Stayed for 5 days from 23rd to 28th December 13. 2nd year and planning to return for Christmas 2014. Food and service superb, hotel decor possibly a little dated but clean and roomy. Comfortable beds and rooms. Take my 86 year old father who required assistance one evening, couldn't fault the attention from reception, fortunately nothing too serious but fully confident that all the help we could have needed would have been offered. Entertainment for the older generation but every night and reasonably lively.
Pool, sauna and whirl pool are an added bonus great for extra relaxation, couldn't think of anything I would rather do over Christmas.
Can see sandown bay as well as Shanklin from lounge and dining room, lovely walk into Shanklin but quite a climb back up the hill!

Stayed before a good few years ago.
Rooms have been upgraded since last time - plenty of space even in basic room.
Entertainment most nights.
Food & service excellent.
Staff very friendly & helpful.
Sometimes parking difficult when coaches are in.

Room Tip: Keep away from internal doors as some closures not set right & they bang when dropped shut.

Just returned from a 4 day New Year break at the Hotel Shanklin. Good points are that the food and service were very good and the rooms clean with comfortable beds, The bad points were that the hotel common areas are extremely dated. No cakes or biscuits were offered with afternoon tea and the so called champagne reception was nothing more than half a glass of cheap fizz. The house wine was disgusting but worst of all the entertainment on all four nights was boring and dull. If you are over 60 but young at heart, this is not the place to spend New Year.

Many thanks for your review of your stay at the Shanklin Hotel. What a shame that you don't seem to have been able to enjoy yourself as much as you would have liked. I take on board your comments, although from what I could see the atmosphere was very enjoyable over the break and many of our guests have already rebooked for next year.

Stayed at the Shanklin for the weekend between Christmas and New Year. Had a lovely relaxing stay. Comfortable, clean rooms, very good food and fantastic entertainment. There is also a pool and sauna which we made use of.

Check in was quick and courteous.
Very Good location. Around half an hour by car from the ferry.
Slightly outdated. As with other reviews a bit of tlc will make this hotel perfect.
Great service. Opted for an all inclusive package which included accommodation, dinner, breakfast and a return ferry ride for 4 passengers including a car for a total of 99 GBP per head for two nights.
Internet only in the lounge area. Slow but manageable.
Dinner include a three course meal which was changed on a daily basis. Both the dinner and breakfast was decently average.
There is a heated swimming pool, snooker table in the Bar, table tennis tables and a few more activities to keep you busy. There is even a live singer every night at the restaurant, nothing special, but good fun indeed.
Overall had a very good stay at the Shanklin and it ticked all the boxes for us.

Hotel is in excellent position, only a short walk from the cliff elevator and the town centre in an area dominated by hotels of every variety. On arrival the reception staff were smiling and welcoming. I was in a coachload of pensioners on a 4-day 'Tinsel & Turkey' trip and the solitary two-persons-and-baggage lift was under strain. However, there are only two upper floors and plenty of porterage available. Finding one's room was the first entertainment of the trip as there is one long zig-zagging and labyrinth-like passage the considerable length of the building. A bit of TLC on the carpet might not be amiss here.
Our room was absolutely adequate, light, airy and warm with a partial sea view and the bathroom pristine with a superb shower, the only problem with which was it was awkward to get into for some of the more physically challenged of the party as it was in the bath, which had a rather high side. We found the rooms could do with an improvement to sound-proofing, or perhaps we just had a herd of elephants above us.
Meals were quite superb with a huge choice of breakfast ingredients including a formidable 'Full English'. Dinner afforded a wide choice, well varied from day to day and the quality was faultless. The service was provided by a bevy of smiling and willing young people. The two bars stocked a good variety of drinks, although there was, sadly, no 'real ale' available.
Entertainment was provided each evening and was of very high quality.
The hotel boasts a very nice heated swimming pool, and an excellent jacuzzi and sauna, of which my companion and I made full use.
There is a three-day jazz festival coming up in the hotel in October and we will almost certainly be attending.

Room Tip: Rooms with south-facing sea views are available at a premium.
