This hotel is well worth a visit - we arrived in winter not expecting much but the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. We could not fault it at all. The food was excellent and if you ordered a sandwich in the bar for lunch you got one and a half sandwiches! More than enough to eat. The rooms, all sea-facing were clean and quite large. The bathrooms all had baths as well as showers and the water was hot !
We had gone down to recover from a family bereavement and the stay certainly helped us as a family to have a break!
Thanks to all at the hotel - We will be back! !

The only issue we had with the hotel was the speed in which the dining tables were cleared whilst we were still eating. Bread was removed whilst still having soup. If one rested during the main course the waiting staff would come and ask you immediately if they could take the plate. It was like they were on a time limit. A pleasant smile would not have gone amiss either rather than the surly attitude to patrons. "Enjoy your breakfast" was barked like an order that you WILL enjoy your breakfast. The food itself was adequate though not epicurian. Hotel was clean, and rooms pleasant, though soundproofing would be a problem as one could hear many conversations, toilet flushing etc, and the room above sounded like a herd of elephants even though it was an elderly couple. Overall it was a pleasant hotel for a long weekend break.

We stayed here on a 3 night Jazz weekend with a group of friends; 19 of us in total.
Having read some previous reviews, I went with no great expectations but found the hotel to be much better than I imagined.
Our standard twin room was large with comfortable beds and plenty of storage space. There was the usual hospitality tray with items replenished daily, something which does not always happen in other establishments. I agree that the room decor was dated in character but as we only slept there this did not worry me. The bathroom was small with a bath with a shower over it. The towels were changed regularly and the room was clean.
Overall the staff were attentive and helpful and had allocated tables in the restaurant so that our group could all sit together.
The hotel was full to capacity and as a result the serving staff were at full stretch. There was sometimes a delay in placing our orders but once this had been achieved the food was served promptly. Our young waiter, Jason, was a delight with nothing seeming too much trouble. The menu choices were within the typical English hotel fare with standard roasts, fish, risottos and curries. Vegetables were plentiful and not overcooked. Drinks were not overpriced and there was a reasonable choice of wines. Breakfast was not as good as the evening meal in my opinion and the addition of fresh fruit or some extra choices on the cooked menu would have been welcome. Nevertheless I felt the weekend to be excellent value for money and I would certainly consider returning to hotel in future.

Overall we enjoyed our 3 night half board break which included the car ferry crossing. The reception staff offered assistance with our luggage on arrival. Our room was clean although very outdated. (Room 83). Would require extensive refurbishment to bring it in line with most 3* tourist board accommodation we have stayed at. We did encounter some late night noise from adjoining rooms as the walls appeared to be poorly sound proofed.
Food was of a good standard and considering the amount of guests catered for, the staff were very effecient and polite.
We made full use of the in-house swimming pool and sauna (well maintained).
On departure, there was no enquiry from the reception staff as to whether we enjoyed our stay.
