“Fawlty towers eat your heart out!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 November 2007

understaffed dirty poor standard accomodation.
The staff that did appear were dirty and ill presented arguing constantly with each other
The rooms are dank dirty and pokey you really couldnt get a cat wee enough to swing
showers are few and if you are lucky to get one in your room it either wont work or wont be hot
Bathtubs are prehistoric and filthy
Linen and towels are scarce with many rooms going without whilst the clapped out washers try to catch up on the never ending pile of washing thrown all over the floor at the rea of the hotel (and need a good boiling even after washing)
Food is regularly served cold and often sprinkled with hair
45 mins is the standard wait between starter and main course if indeed they havent run out of food on your stay
Rooms often are double booked so dont be surprised if you wind up sharing with a stranger
toilets wobble and spill contents over floor
cigarettes are not banned as each room will verify with the yellow walls curtains and burn marks as well as stink of previous occupants
Not positioned for the benefit of car drivers as it is right on the lights with little or no space to load or unload cases
No pool or any leisure facilities although there is a small pond at the rear which is for viewing purposes only
Tea in rooms is damp dirty tea bags of undeterminate age and a totally new experience in vile taste
Kettles take an average of 30 mins to boil one cup thats if they dont blow up in the process
Everything closes on the island after august so plan carefully so that time in sherwood is as little as possible
Enjoy your holidays folks!!

Visited this hotel as part of a large Golfing party. Rooms were clean and basic, bathrooms were in need of replacement, particularly the showers that alternated between scalding hot and freezing cold. Food was included but the standard wasn't great - the meat was the pre-packed kind, not fresh and the veggies were boiled to death. Breakfast was half decent though. Very understaffed and the staff that were there made it clear we were visiting 'out of season' and that we were putting them out. Hotel advertised a facilities such as a heated indoor swimming pool, Jacuzzi and Sauna - Jacuzzi and Sauna were out of order and the swimming pool was freezing and filthy. Overall we felt that we had been ripped off because it simply wasn't very enjoyable. When I retun to the Isle of Wight, I won't be going back there.

  • Liked — They were only a 10 minute walk from the beach
  • Disliked — The food was pretty awful

Room clean.
Cases taken to room whilst we ate.
Cooked breakfast every day with minor variations was good.
Chose our evening meal at Breakfast, with a choice of two main courses or a fish choice.
Went to the bar for our wine as there was no wine waiter, but hey what do you expect for the price.
Parts of the hotel where too hot.
My mother being a fussey eater, ate everything presented to her by hard working staff. Her request for a cup of hot water each meal time was always actioned willingly.

No faults, just good value for money.

we booked this hotel through a travel agent for 5 days .we arrived on the monday and was shown to our room which was facing a local kebab shop extractor fan which was really noisy and the smell was disgusting.it took a long time to find the room as you have to go through so many narrow corridors to get to it.we then complained to the manageress and she moved us to the sherwood cliff hotel where we could have breakfast every morning but we had to go back to the sherwood court to have our evening meal, which was not as i was expecting.more food was send back to the kitchen than was eaten.there were slug trails all over the restaurent carpets not what you would expect to find in a restaurant.table clothes had stains over them when we arrived up until the time we left so i would advise anybody not to go there.

Myself and 3 others booked this hotel for a birthday weekend.
Before i start, i must say that the overall weekend was an enjoyable experience. Now I have said that I am going to say the few problems i did encounter. I had read previous reviews on this website, so was not expecting anything amazing, i was quite impressed with the food and the actual bedroom, which were both quite reasonable, especially for the price. However, far from being cold, the heated pool was excessively so, i have had cooler baths, also the chlorine level was quite strong and after 10 minutes, looking like a lobster, i had to get out because i was struggling to breathe. The quantity of food for my 'full' English breakfast was rather low, one of everything. other than that the staff were helpfull and friendly.

  • Liked — that it was homely
  • Disliked — the warren of corridors, if a fire broke out i would opt for the window

It would be safe to say that this hotel is Fawlty Towers. Or at least where they got the inspiration from...
Me and three friends decided to visit the isle of wight to celebrate a birthday.
The staff may be slightly friendly to a extent but that does not excuse the rest of them. When we arrived, we were greeted with a smile by one person, and that is rougly about it.

The resteraunt staff are very debateable. There were three servers and throughout the time we were there, I noticed the waiters/waitresses go against at least three major health and safety rules. and none of them had a layed out section plan so two people asked us for the same thing and we did not have a courtesy chek at all.

The sauna/pool It worked, but there was no light bulb in there.
The pool: Not only did you have to go on a mad hunt to try and find it, but it was like a hot bath basically, a hot bath with far to much chorline in it, I had to leave the pool as I suffer from asthma and I felt very sick after going in there. The jacuzi didnt even work, it was empy bar from a dabateable puddle rubbish and broken tiles sat at the bottom

The Food: had it have been cooked correctly it would have been nice. The full english breakfast was not really what you would call it, It was on a child sized plate and you can tell that the beans were re- heated seveal times in the microwave and we had stone cold toast.

The rooms. Now if you read the website they say that the rooms are all well equpied, well, in mine and my boyfriends room, we had enough room to go around in, but we had very little room to move around and our television was colour, but we could not pick up any channels what so ever, and one of our friends room, was in actual fact a twin room wih the beds pushed together, had he got charged for a double room, i would have recomended that he asked for every single penny back.
To get to the rooms, you have to yet again, go on a treasure hint through hallways that you have to go through sideways with lugage and the walls are paper thin.

The bar was not even open when we got there. We had to go to the sherwood cliftop hotel to have a drink!

This place is date and is a to star place only buy a shoe string.

The only plus side to this hotel was the fact that we shared a wall with a kebab shop and was a short walk away from the train station and the beach.

if you are planning a trip to the isle of wight, DO NOT stay in this hotel unless you want to spend a stupid amount of money for a terrible service.

This was not what we expected. Booked a late getaway to the IOW with my family and arrived at the hotel in the early afternoon. Having gone ahead to book in/survey the hotel it was immediate caution that came over me ,not like the pictures, poor lighting, muskey smell [off seasion] , very dated and drab, lift sounds like it needs service, rabbit warren of corridors with trip steps leading to the- sauna not working, swimming pool without changing facilities, that was enough. Asked the wife to check it out without any tutoring, she returned 2 minutes later NO way . Got the impression that this would be better suited to a lads awayday or even a house of disrepute , but not a family, How it got 2* ? maybe the sauna/pool or maybe the management who were friendly but this does not excuse the condition of the hotel. So kissed- 63pounds goodby, and found the marvelous Eversley hotel in Ventnor -90pounds and continued with our holiday. Booked this through Ferrysavers[TravelGateway] another waste of time.
