“Very relaxing break”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 June 2014

We both thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Belmont. Food was very good, both at breakfast and in the bar. We worked our way through the menu over our week long stay. Location very good for an after dinner walk. Very quiet hotel, no disturbing noise from the road or other guests. Des and Linda very welcoming. Agree with PhilR about the wonderful bath towels! Would certainly recommend this hotel.

Thank you for reviewing us. The Belmont is very lucky to be situated where it is, as we have a very quiet location even though we are only a few minutes from the main town of Shanklin. Our towels are a good size and i find i cant use normal bath towels anymore as they are not big enough. Thank you for recommending us to others.

The ambience of the Belmont is more like that of a guest house than a hotel and I mean that as a compliment. Unlike many guest houses, however it has a bar and provides evening meals for those guests who wish partake. We found the evening meals good enough for us to return for our three night stay and good value. Our standard double en-suite room was clean and comfortable with enough room to move about without bumping into the furniture and the bathroom was efficient although perhaps a little gloomy being windowless. In compensation the towels were large and fluffy.
The proprietors, Des and Linda, are very hands-on and available, providing a personal service in a relaxed manner. The breakfasts were excellent with plenty of variety available and are served in the dining room looking out on the garden. A good chunk of the garden is taken up by the pool, which was being readied for the season when we were there in mid-May. I guess it would be a very bracing experience until later in the year when the solar heating may have had time to have some effect.
In a nutshell, we would be very happy to return to the Belmont.

Thank you for your review. We try to provide a service you would get in a large hotel, but by being small we are more personal and down to earth, so you feel more relaxed and comfortable. Our evening meals are a relaxed affair as we only cater for guests staying with us. Again thank you and hopefully we will see you if you visit the Island again.

The Belmont was a delightful and unexpected surprise! Strongly recommend this little gem of a B&B with great owners and lots of little extras.

We made an unplanned stop at the Isle of Wight with no reservations and lucked into a 2 night stay at the Belmont.
-- The location is GREAT: scenic Shankin, up on the hill, around the corner from the cliff walk, lift to the beach and amazing views. Also, an easy walk into town for light shopping and exploring.
-- The hotel is a well kept large B&B with comfortable rooms, a fabulous sitting porch, lovely grounds (including a built in pool, being prepped for the season), comfortable sitting room with coffee, tea and biscuits.
-- AMAZING breakfast: Breakfast room is bright with lots of natural light. But the best part: the breakfast! YUMMM! There is both a self-serve buffet and cooked-to-order hot options ordered off the menu. First: the self-serve buffet included the usual cereals, fruit, juice, toast etc. but then take it up a couple of notches. Pineapple/Coconut juice (YUM!), perfect hot melt-in-you-mouth little croissants kept warm and flaky on a warming tray, MANY different breads/muffins for toasting including raisin/walnut and apricot/almond breads for toasting, really sharp cheddar cheese, etc etc. Next: the breakfast menu included a full English breakfast, standard eggs benedict (ham), or eggs benedict with smoked salmon. I loved the full English breakfast: steaming hot, eggs cooked perfectly, English bacon crisp and tasty, sausage with a nice flavor and just the right outside sear. But the real stand out was were the eggs benedict options: my husband had both and is still raving about how good it was. (Better than our breakfasts on our 14 night cruise!)
-- Evening bar/pub: A terrific little pub with a long wood bar, good selection of drinks (no chardonnay but the Sauvignon Blanc was a good option), extensive pub menu at very reasonable prices. Not open to the public, just for hotel guests and their friends. We had dinner here one night with our pals and we all had a great time! The small venue was nice and encouraged lots of cross-talking at the tables. The meal was yummy and served quickly (one minor issue: requested certain items on the side and instead they were served over the meal). Several guests just checked in to snag a beer/wine for the room/nightcap. A great extra benefit!
-- Hospitality: B&B is run by Des and Linda. Des welcomed us with humor and a running banter. Seemed whenever we needed something, Des was there with a friendly smile, a helpful hand and all the right answers (ferry schedule, little map of the area, hints on places to go, etc). Linda was more behind the scenes but we saw her flying past with a smile and hands full. When we left, Des was outside waving us off like old friends. So sweet.

Too bad we only had two nights! We need to make it back again soon! Bill misses his eggs benedict! :-)

Lovely colonial style hotel in a good location just monutes fro the town centre or seafront. Clean stylish rooms and the breakfast selection is excellent and the traditional cooked breakfast the best I have had in a hotel for a long time.

Thank you for reviewing us and thank you for the kind comments on our Breakfast, we do take pride in our range and quality of food used, the Belmont has always had really good reviews for its food and we are glad we are able to carry on the tradition today. The Verandah on the front of the Belmont is very colonial and is a great place to sit and relax. Thank you.

Stayed three nights in a spacious room on the first floor with all amenities that we required. Welcoming, friendly and helpful hosts who can provide dinner but we chose to explore locally and dined well at three different local establishments. The Belmont is ideally located between the Old Village and the sea front. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Room Tip: Ask for front room with sea views

Thank you for reviewing us. We are glad you enjoyed your stay with us. We are lucky being centrally located to all the amenities of Shanklin, so nothing is to far to walk. We are also in a prime position for visiting the rest of the island. Our luxury rooms at the front of the hotel are very spacious. Again thank you.

I go on holiday, to a different place, every few months and, over the past three years the standard of cooked breakfast has really deteriorated, so it came as a pleasant surprise, if not shock, to be served with a meal that was reminiscent of the "olden times." There was also a vast array of self service starters. It was excellent. Added to that, the bedroom was extremely clean and comfortable with a nice view over the garden. The couple who own the hotel are very friendly and go out of their way to help you find your way around Shanklin and the rest of the island. Position wise The Belmont is perfect, being halfway between the beach and the shops with a five minute walk to either. The train station is a twelve minutes walk away. Thoroughly recommended.
