“Excellent B&B Guest House”
Reviewed 29 April 2012

Very nice B&B Guest House with Kath & Dave putting a lot of effort into making the stay as enjoyable as possible. Relaxed breakfast and nice touch having the separate guest lounge area. Would certainly stay here again...

Kath and Dave give us a very warm and friendly welcome when we arrived at their wonderful adults only B&B for two nights. We travelled with friends there easily by ferry and train, the B&B being just a short ten minute walk from the station and subsequently we found an even shorter walk to the cliff pathway down to the beach in this very charming resort. On arrival we were invited into the guest lounge and offered a cup of tea and biscuits whilst our details were taken down. Information on the island was plentiful and they gave us help in locating a place to hire a car for the next day. We were escorted upstairs to the two superior rooms. Our room had a wonderful bay window which collected all the sun in the afternoon and so was light and warm with a very large bed. Our friends’ room next door was of a similar size and aspect but without the large bed. It was the only room with a bath as well as shower. The rooms and bathrooms were spotless with dressing gowns and quality toiletries provided. We also had an opportunity for a sneak look into one of the standard rooms which was also an excellent standard slightly smaller than the superior room and without the dressing gowns but everything else seemed the same. Fresh milk, ice cubes were available on demand together with an offer to cool wine if required. Free Wi-Fi was available throughout the building. Kath and Dave have taken the sensible decision not to operate a bar in their B&B but will helpfully provide everything required for those wishing to have drinks within the bedrooms. The breakfast was cooked by Dave but before the main course there was fresh fruit salad, cereals, croissants and preserves available and porridge as well. Apart from an excellent full English breakfast or combinations thereof, kippers were on offer as well and excellent they were too. Kath and Dave have done everything to make their B&B a wonderful and comfortable place to stay. They thoroughly deserve the ratings that they are getting from Trip Advisor visitors together with the Silver Standard award from Visit England. All four of us would highly recommend a stay here. Congratulations!

Just one piece of advice on your visit to the island, do not visit Alum Bay! It is a disgrace, You can barely see the Needles and the owners of the land have turned the site into a poor quality Theme Park with a fairground. How this got planning permission from the Island’s Council I will never know! It has ruined an area of natural beauty. The charge for even parking your car is £4, for two small bottles of water £3 and so on. When we were there, there was no walking access to beach to look at the coloured sands other than using their expensive cable car! If you want to see the needles and get away from the tourist coaches, far better to take the open topped bus up onto the National Trust owned headland overlooking them.

Room Tip: All rooms are a very good standard but choose the superior rooms which are large and sunny and not m...

A great place to book if you are thinking of staying in Shanklin. Kath and Dave are both extremely friendly and accommodating and the guest house itself is excellently maintained. The superior room did not disappoint and neither did the breakfast. Fully recommend the Westbury Lodge.

From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome with tea and biscuits. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Location was very good 5 minute walk to the beach (though a bit longer coming back as it is uphill!) and 5 minutes into town. Breakfast was superb, only wish we could have stayed longer.

Thank you for your kind review.

Yes you are right - the walk up from the beach keeps you fit during the winter months, but we must admit to using the cliff lift from Easter to October!!

We enjoyed a fabulous stay that the Westbury. The accomodation was comfortable, clean and very modern. It felt very much like a home away from home and the owners were so helpful and knowledgable.

A great place to stay and would definately recommend!
