We had a group booking of 30 people at the Ocean View. Name of hotel is what you experience. Clean and well maintained.
Select a sea facing room on 2nd floor, the sweeping view of the bay is breathtaking with cruise liners sailing across.
The walk to the beach is ideal for those who are fit, there is an external lift outside the hotel for the infirm which takes you up and down for £1.50. Swam in the heated swimming pool. Dinner with 30 colleagues was served instantly with efficient staff. Entertainment was geared for the elderly but we joined in with the Swinging 60's music which stopped at 11pm. There was no night entertainment at this end of the Isle, walked on the deserted promenade till 1am. Departed after Sunday Breakfast. Didn't like 10am checkout, wanted to stay longer to sit in balcony to enjoy the views.Take your shampoos, etc. only towels and soap are provided.
Staff were very helpful throughout the stay.

Room Tip: 2nd floor Sea Facing, there is 1 lift which gets busy during meal times

Travelled in Mid July with my mother this was our 13th time in Shanklin but our first time at Ocean View Hotel and we both agree this was the best hotel we have ever stayed in.

Although the trip down took nearly 8 hours to complete due to incidents on the M6 it was well worth the wait, we arrived at Ocean View hotel just before 7pm and the cases were taken straight up to the room by the kindly porters so all we had to do was to fetch our key and make our way to the Restaurant which is in the Basement-there is lift to all floors so it you are not very mobile you can still move around.

The meals are lovely, piping hot and although basic the portions are adequate for your needs a choice of 4 starters(Fruit Juice is always on offer), Four Main courses and Four Desserts(Ice Cream and Cheese and Biscuits again always on offer), Water is provided free or charge and the Wine waiter will come and take orders for any other drinks if required, Tea and Coffee is provided after Dinner in the Reading Room or Piano Bar.

The room we had was on the 1st Floor(117) and talk about Big it look huge compared to my Bedroom at home, we had a balcony overlooking the Beach & Sea, a huge bathroom, a biggish wardrobe with enough coat hangers(something many hotels don't have) and reading lights for nigh time, the window was massive so could see Culver Cliffs and Luccombe and we were directly opposite the Cliff Lift.

It was far too hot to sit on the Balcony in the morning after lunch it was fine as the sun moved.
The Reading Room or Piano Bar do Snacks(Sandiwiches, Chips etc) between 12..noon and 2pm and drinks from 10.am till Late, there is a TV Room and Entertainment Bar but we didn't require these as we found enough Fresh Air to tire us out every day.

The reception has got Internet access and Wi-Fi free or charge and can also order a daily newspaper for you and prepare a packed lunch or sandwiches for you day out journey home.

Dave, the driver who picks you up from Warwick Services is your tour guide for the IOW and as he lives on the IOW he has got a great knowledge we had trips out to Island Tour(Godshill, Yarmouth and Needles Alum Bay back via Ventnor), Ryde and IOW Steam Railway, Cowes and Osborne House, Waltzing Waters, Shanklin Theatre, and IOW River Cruise-these may change due to numbers and seasons. Dave was always on time and smartly dressed and cracks a joke or two.

There are a few steps on each floor which some people may have to negotiate but there are not many are there is a handrail to hold on to.

Overall, we found this 8 day trip enjoyable and a extra bonus was the lovely weather.
We are going to try the Abbey Lawn next year which is in the same chain but will return to the Ocean View in the near future.

Room Tip: If you want a scenic view pay a little extra and book a seaview room.

Stayed here thru a Voucher offer. The hotel clearly is a favourite amongst the senior generation. However, we, in our 40s, had a brilliant time. It is like a step back into the 70s & 80s, but in a great way.
The room was lovely. Sea view, balcony, roomy enough and nice neighbours on the balcony across the way, who always waved and said "Hello". This might not be the Hotel for you if you are an anally retentive business type, who falls for the well researched chic modern look. This is the Hotel for the people with a sense of humour and a love of life.
The food was pleasantly edible, again, with that prawn cocktail/Waldorf salad nod to the past. Though to be fair, with the ranks of mature customers, I can completely understand a tactful appeasement of their preferred palettes.
We discovered the snooker room!- And felt perhaps we were the first people to find it this decade! The adorning of the walls with pictures of Ray Reardon, Terry Griffiths et al reminded me of my youth watching Pot Black with my Dad!
There's a swimming pool hiding away down stairs too!
I presume the Hotel has expanded over years, as our expedition to find our room caused us great amusements after a few drinks. A maze of steps up, steps down, corridors, fire doors and stairs often went slightly wrong. But we celebrate the fact!
The entertainment was again geared to a the bulk of the Hotel's clientele, but we loved it.
The Hotel has a nice spot set up from the sea front.
We will definitely be going back sometime. The staff were all perfectly hospitable, and we had a brilliant time

Room Tip: The South facing seaview balconies are worth having on a sunny day

This hotel is like taking a step back in time.. in a charming and nice way.
This is the type of place my grandparents, parents would have gone in their youth and subsequently taken me growing up. It was a nice step into memory lane.

Service was great in the hotel, staff are very friendly and helpful to guests.
Great location right at the top of the cliff and close to town. Its about a 10 minute walk at most to the station, ideal for those coming via train.

For the very aggressive pricing we paid via living social we where very impressed with what we got.
Our sea view room which we where meant to pay extra for but as the hotel seemed to be relatively quiet this was not enforced.

Our package included dinner which looked like it offered a wide range of choice, if perhaps targeted more traditional tastes, but we had other plans. Breakfast was of a good quality.

Each room has a large HD free-view TV with a good range of channels.
Beds where of a good quality and room was very clean.

Hotel on the whole is quiet but entertainment did go on late one night of our stay.
Balcony was great and gave an amazing view of the bay.

Swimming pool looked great, sadly we did not get a chance to use it as it closes early.

Wonderful sea view right round Sandown Bay. With binos you can check out all the ocean liners passing by. Plenty of space in the room with a bathroom larger than ours at home! Lovely to sit out on the balcony looking down on to the beach. Food was excellent with plenty of choice and the restaurant staff were very efficient and looked after us very well. Would recommend this hotel

Room Tip: Worth paying extra for a sea view

Just returned back from Ocean View Hotel and would like to say how much of a hidden gem it is!!
Check in was smooth and our room (121) had a sea view, which was amazing! Woke up every morning to a beautiful sunrise. Food portions were small, but you could ask for more if wanted. Entertainment suited the majority of residents as they were over 60, but it could have catered for rest of guests who were younger as well, like myself.
Staff friendly and attentive, with special mention for the lovely Sandra in Housekeeping, Nathan on Reception and the Bar Staff.
Some days had swimming pool to myself, but it was a very cold on entering it.
Would stay here again!!

Room Tip: Go for room 121 with Sea View. It's worth it!!

We have just returned from a 5 day tour with Robinsons and everything went very smoothly. The hotel was ideally situated close to the prom and lift.We had two adjacent rooms with balcony overlooking the sea.It was well worth paying that bit extra for the sea view.It was a clean ,comfortable hotel with good food, helpful staff and a really nice swimming pool .I can recommend both Robinsons tours and Ocean View hotel.

Room Tip: Sea view,definitely
