Just got back from a 5 day visit with Robinsons. Hotel has great sea views and staff were excellent and very welcoming, particularly Maria the Deputy Manager. 6 people to a table at meal times is a little cramped , but service in the dining room was fast and very efficient, Some of the meals were on the small side but nothing really to complain about. We paid extra for a sea view room which was well worth it, room was very spacious and very clean. Hotel is geared to more mature people , ie 65+, some of whom had difficulty dealing with the stairs although there is one lift. Very near to beach and town centre. Excellent driver, very pleasant and helpful. Magnificent indoor pool and suana etc, but very little used. All in all, a good hotel offering excellent value

We are a group of 60 friends who go away in April every year, this was our 10th Anniversary and was one of the best yet. Hotel was very smart (some refurb still going on but not intrusive and when finished will make this a top hotel), staff second to none, nothing was a problem to them. Food was lovely, not haute cuisine but you wouldn't expect that for the price but delicious, hot and tasty and varied with lots of choice. Service excellent in the dining room, our waiter, Neil couldn't do enough for us. Seaview rooms are excellent, spacious, clean and airy with lots of storage space, worth paying the miniscule supplement. The bar staff, especially Les brilliant, so friendly and good fun and the manageress who looked after us so well, great fun, getting up and having a dance. We are aged between 22 and 70 and the young ones want to come back thats how good it is. You won't be dissapointed if you go to this hotel, I promise

The hotel was very clean and warm, our room overlooked the sea and the balcony was a real bonus. Staff helpful, breakfast ok, dinner could be better would certainly go back.

I wish to remain unknown for my own reasons but having looked at what people written about the ocean view hotel in shanklin really need to think before you write on here and start complaining.
This is a coaching hotel not a 5 star spa hotel with champagne on tap if you never go on coach holidays and your wanting to try one then dont expect the world wether it be with robinsons who own the hotel or bowens who use it regular and maybe a small coach company. If you do come to the hotel all the staff who work their will do their upmost to help you and like alot of companies and venues if go in with two feet complaing and with attitude and anger then that gets you no where until you calm down and talk resonably to the person you maybe wanting to speak to.
as regards to what people have written -

1) journey times travel / ferrys and meal times

answear - if you travel by coach from the northwest dont expect to get their two hours after starting of earlest arrival time would be 17.30 to 18.00 if you arrive after this then you have either hit traffic problems or whitelink have had problems with crossings this is out of the drivers hands not like the coach can cross the solent with two propellers hanging of the back and if you end if going into your evening meal upon arrival then thats just life it will be only nite it happens.

alot of people who take coach holidays especially from certain areas of the country expect everything for nothing and give nothing back for what people may have done for them during their holiday .

To explain my heading people who dont take coach holidays on a regular basis or just go to moan and get other peoples backs up then do us a favour and stay at home why should the rest of the passengers holidays get spoiled just moaners want a free holiday next time.

Robinsons holidays are an experienced coach firm with experienced drivers wether your drivers young or old their drivers will always do their best to give you an enjoyable holiday.

so folks todays lesson

GO - RELAX - ENJOY YOU HOLIDAY - AND DONT MOAN TO SPOIL EVERYONE ELSES HOLIDAY IT JUST GETS PEOPLES BACKS UP THIS GOES WITH ANY HOLIDAY NOT JUST TO THIS HOTEL.

We read the reviews before we went to ocean view and it seems the ones who complain about this hotel wouldn,t be happy were ever they stayed.Sad really .I mean want do you want for 5 days holiday, coach down there, ferry over, lovely breakfast and evening meals ,staff that cant do enough for you and views to die for.All for £159 each.We priced a butlin holiday which was about the same price until we enquired about fares,Train fares to minehead were £179 each from Wirral ,rip off or what !And lets face it ,what do want a room for ,its only to sleep in as your out most of the time on free excursions. The rooms by the way were spotless. We went on a coach trip with Robinsons Coaches - for 8 days. It was one of the worst holidays we have been on.
The room - was cold - I asked for extra blankets which were given. I also asked why the heating would not come on. We were told that someone would deal with it. ( sometime). it was still cold when we left.
The resteraunt manager, Steve, was excellent and tried his best but the waitress we were given was so slow - the meals were cold when we got them. The standard of the meals was poor. After we complained, the waitress was taken off our tables and the resteraunt manager served us.
The hotel was " faded glory". It was obvious that some time in the past, it had been a good hotel but it needed a lot of money spending.
The bar staff, Les, was first class and tried his best but was battling a stone wall.
The trips out were un-interesting- we found them boring.
The entertainment in the evening was as expected but it was cold on the ballroom.
All in all, we will never go again to Robinsons.
I have written to the Head Office but haven't got a reply.
