Really made our short holiday - super hotel and super people running it. Everyone is made to feel special and nothing is too much trouble. The hotel is spotless - the breakfast is a feast in itself and the room was faultless..The cliff lift to the beach is a very short walk or you can take the path down.. A real find and we will be going again.

Room Tip: Only saw our room which was lovely with a sea view.

We stayed for a short break at the Cliff Hall Hotel in July 2014. The hotel was bigger than expected with a number of rooms that have been modernised and some of which are still on the list of ones to do, but they are very up-front about this when you are booking. The owners and staff are friendly and could not do enough for you. We stayed in one of the rooms that had NOT been updated and it was perfectly fine and superbly clean. Breakfasts are both hot and cold buffet, great quality and quantity! Well located for access to the beach although being cliff-top you either have a short-walk or a ride in the lift but the beach itself is clean and the water shallow. Also very easy access to local pubs and restaurants in the main centre of Shanklin. Well worth a visit!

My partner and I stayed here in July 2014. We both have very busy lives and live apart so we really wanted to get away to spend a few days together away from everyday stresses and trivia.

I have fond Isle of Wight childhood memories so I was keen to show my partner around, and Shanklin provided the perfect quiet little base for our excursions.

The hotel is a ten minute walk from the train station or five minute walk from the main Shanklin bus stop (disclaimer: long legs). It's situated on top of the cliff overlooking Shanklin bay, right next to the cliff lift.

Upon arrival we were treated to a very welcoming tour or the hotel and garden, and were informed of the local amenities and public transport (we came on foot but there's also a spacious car park at the hotel). The room was big, clean and had a beautiful sea view. The building is lovely and old (a couple of hundred years if I recall correctly), which means it is cool, has high ceilings and lovely large (glazed) windows. As you'd expect from such an old building the ceiling plaster is cracked in a few places for example, and the shower temperature can fluctuate a bit but nothing major at all and it's clearly very well kept throughout. The complimentary toiletries smelt great and while it's a small thing for most, we actually really appreciated that the shower gels, etc were non-animal tested.

Breakfast was excellent and very generous! The croissants were fresh, the coffee great, there was juice aplenty and a full cooked breakfast buffet (and I mean FULL - bacon, sausage, scrambled and fried eggs, tomatoes, mushrooms, fried slices, beans, toast, etc). My partner and I are vegetarian and having let the hotel know in advance (you don't always know what you're going to get) we were really pleasantly surprised to be offered vegetarian sausages.

We spent all day out and usually returned late, but Cliff Hall was the perfect base for us and the bed was perfect after a long day out. Overall it was just what we wanted - thanks!!

Room Tip: The sea view was spectacular.

Our first stey at Cliff Hall and what a fantastic one it was! we were made very welcome by the staff and the other guests, The views are to die for, and the whole charm and atmosphere was fantastic. The breakfasts were five star, as was the general feeling of nothing being to much trouble for management and staff. We would not hesitate in booking Cliff Hall again.

Room Tip: Go upstairs great sea views

This is 3rd visit my cricket team has made to this hotel and going back there was like visiting old friends. The staff are so friendly and helpful, we changed our booking numbers several times and it caused no problem. The breakfast was excellent, and the room rate we obtained was amazing. I have seen comments regarding the rooms being tired, the rom I stayed was very good and the décor was ok. I can't praise the staff highly enough. If I visit the island again this is where I wil stay.

The hotel itself is at the top of the cliff at Shanklin, on the south-east of the Isle of Wight. The views across the channel are super, and access to the beach is good, given it is at the top of the cliff. The town centre is just a short walk away. Rooms are clean and well equipped. Breakfast is always good here, with plenty of tea and coffee on offer from the attentive staff. I understand that there are great plans afoot, and the presence of a new build where there used to be rooms and a second car park, gives a clue. Staff are flexible and helpful, and will suggest places to eat or sights to see. If you are on the Island for a short time, I would suggest a place like this as a base.

My son suffers from coeliac disease and stayed at this hotel on his school trip. His first trip away from home and obviously he was concerned about his diet. The hotel was brilliant and dealt with all his needs. He said the food was gorgeous, he didn't have to worry at all and they even asked him what he would really like to eat and they would try and accommodate him. He chose fish and chips and they did a gluten free batter. It made for a very happy experience for him. Thank you very much.
