Not having made any advance reservations, it was a wonder that we were able to manage a decent place for the family. Conveniently located, its a relaxing walk from the railway station. The rooms are a bit cramped but one can "take it or leave it" The room heating and bathroom facilties are also not A-class but the sincere and accomodating staff tries hard to get things in order. One has to remember that one is paying for a budget hotel. The overall experience was memorable.
It is also quite close to the Esplanade and the beach. The Esplanade leads to the Shanklin Chine, a leafy gorge with walk throught the trees, waterfalls, slopes. Immediately on exiting, there is place for relaxation with chairs under the sun, an interesting golf course and lovely ice-creams.

Terrible ,Worst mistake! first day low water in tap. Instant water giving very hot water or just very cold. not warm water. My son got cold because he started taking bath and then all of sudden there was only hot water coming out. Then after half an hour, all water gone with soap still on his body! No courtesy at all. Worst ever seen hotel. cracks in walls! Water dripping marks on ceiling and walls. Other my friends went their also had same sort of problem. so can not be single incident.

Stayed here over 4 nights as part of a coach tour with Travelstyle. Extremely disappointed. Room too small - couldn't swing a cat!! On-suite no window or working extractor and dirty. Had requested a 1st floor room with a sea view - got neither and when I asked the owner about this she said " I only give sea view to best paying guests" - really good customer relations! Staff need to be trained. Food was diabolical. The waiter on one occasion refused to give my husband his starter because they had run out of his choice - He was not allowed another choice. They can't cope with change.Came home hungry and intend to complain to Travelstyle and the hotel itself in writing. DO NOT GO HERE!

Stayed 3 nights with a coach party. Staff were polite, friendly and helpful and the meal service very efficient. Quantity and quality of food was fine and bar prices were very reasonable.
Lounge and dining areas were very good and although our room was a bit tired it was clean, warm and with plenty of hot water.
Overall we enjoyed our stay and given this was a two star hotel it met expectations and was good value for money.

Coach trip, hotel was changed to Mayfair, checked internet and saw the comments.
However while the rooms were tired they were clean and the communal areas were fine.
The food was first class and the service excellent. In general the staff were polite and very hard working. Value for money was second to none.
I hope the owners of the Mayfair can make a thriving business they deserve to.
Many of the negative comments do not apply now.
