we have stayed at the hayes barton a couple of times before so decided to have our honeymoon there this year. on arriving we were greeted by the ever lovely katie the dog. she is such a gentle dog and was more than happy to be fussed over by our over excitable 4 year old boy. the greeting from joan and chris was as warm and welcoming as ever. our room was very spacious and beautifully maintained and clean. the beds were very comfy and it was great to have the freeview on the tv. breakfast was superb as usual whether we had the full english, porridge or the smoked haddock and the tea and toast was plentyful. (they also have a fantastic collection of animal egg cups!!!) the hotel is only a few minutes walk to shanklin village so is ideally located too. its always a shame to leave this place but always a pleasure to return. i would recommend this hotel to anyone, young or old and we look forward to visiting again soon.

Room Tip: we had room 8 which was divided up into a main room with double bed, a separate room with a single b...

We were so pleased when Tammy and Andy chose us as their honeymoon location. We knew it was an extra special time for them and made sure to make them as comfortable as possible. Thankfully the weather wasn't too bad and they could enjoy their time at various oudoor attractions with Eddie, their charming and delightful 4 year old, and they even got on the beach a couple of the days. We look forward to seeing them again - it's always such a pleasure to see the progress the children are making.

The countless glowing reviews for Joan & Chris at the Hayes Barton guest house are backed by us 110% -
From my first telephone conversation with Joan, I knew that we were in good hands. We received a very warm welcome upon arrival, and throughout our stay Joan and Chris made us feel totally relaxed and at home. The guest house was immaculate and well cared for, and the whole operation was extremely well organised and run, infact the whole thing was totally faultless - even the ferry booking was taken care of effortlessly, they could certainly teach some big hotels a thing or two about warm hospitality, maintenance, attention to detail without being at all intrusive.
If we return to the Isle of Wight, we would certainly return to this guest house and would not even consider staying anywhere else.
I would estimate that I have stayed in around 100 guest houses/hotels etc. in the UK over the last 20 years due to my work, and as far as my memory can recall this is as good as it gets.
Keep up the good work!
Daffodil, Sue & Richard.

Room Tip: There are no bad rooms in this guest house.

Just returned from a 3 night break at Hayes Barton. Joan and Chris are the ultimate hosts who made us, together with my dog, most welcome. A nearby park was great for early morning walks and it's close proximity to Shanklin Old Town was so convenient. The hotel is spotless and the rooms fresh and very comfortable. We had the family suite overlooking the garden with a connecting bathroom which had both a shower and bath. Joan could not have been more attentive to our dietary requirements and was always happy to change her wonderful menus to accommodate us. I think she was secretly aware of all my favourite desserts ! Her cooking is superb. Would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone.

Although Rose had visited the Island before, this was also a first visit for Jenny and the absolutely gorgeous Bess, a two year old Cocker Spaniel - what a sweetheart. As dog owners ourselves, we do enjoy meeting our guests' dogs and it's quite incredible how quickly they settle into their new routines. Our own dog, Katie, is very good when she meets our guest dogs and there is usually much wagging of tails and sniffing to welcome them into "her" home. We are very fortunate to have a fantastic park just a walk away from us which is also at the bottom of Shanklin Downs so, if guests wanted to, they can just leave the car in the car park and walk as far as they feel like. As all the evening meals are home made, I am more than happy to offer alternatives. Almost everything is made from scratch so catering for special dietary needs is not a problem. I also make my own bread, ice creams and sauces which allows me to leave out anything that guests may be allergic to or just don't like!

It was a pleasure to meet Melvyn and Judy and to welcome guests who have never visited the Island before. I think people are surprised at how much there is to do - attractions catering for all ages and tastes, varying physical abilities and all kinds of weather (of which we seem to have had everything these last couple of weeks). We certainly do hope they will return and look forward to hearing from them again.

We have just returned from another four night break at the Hayes Barton, our second in less than six months. Excellent hospitality again from both Joan and Chris home from home! Our room was very comfortable and spotless, as was the whole guest house. We had an exceptional good value break as the deal was four nights for the price of three. The food again was of an amazing standard all freshly home cooked, as it was my sister in laws first visit to the island we had intended to eat out on one or two evenings however as the menu always had something to tempt us all with and the the price was excellent we ate in all four evenings and thoroughly enjoyed the food again. Looking forward to returning again later in the year.

We are delighted that our guests enjoyed their second stay with us and instead of bringing one set of parents, brought a sister (and her dog). We are always pleased when guests return to us but when they are prepared to bring family along as well, it is indeed a compliment. We are now looking forward to seeing them back later in the year.

Just returned from a three night break at Hayes Barton and I have to say it was faultless as usual :) Joan and Chris are delightful hosts who made us feel at home and with 3 children that is no mean feat! The rooms were spotless and the family room offers a great family sized bathroom complete with full size bath for washing the mucky herberts! I love the smell of the hotel as soon as you walk through the front door. The food was delicious - as a vegetarian there was always a great veggie offering, plenty of choice for the children and puddings are to die for (I loved the lemon cheesecake) and as it was my birthday I was even spoiled with a surprise birthday cake - what more could a girl ask for! We all returned very happy and not wanting to leave.

We were delighted to see this family again as the children are extremely well behaved and it is a pleasure to have a proper family mix of all ages visiting us. We are genuinely happy to accept families and, although we are unable to offer the facility of a swimming pool, we do have lots of games the children are welcome to use, all our new televisions have Freeview and can take DVDs and, of course, we have free WiFi so hopefully all of that plus a children's playground and park just two minutes away from us, will keep them amused when they are not enjoying all the various attractions throughout the Island.
